Gotta admit Sony is genius for launching PS3 at such a high price

That's a rather weak reason if that's why Sony did it. Why be luxury when you can be for everyone? More sales in that I would think.

Yeah the launch was prettybad with the games and all, but Sony is really been on a row for some time now. I think I bought maybe 2 games in '06/'07, but after that I have like 20+ games, 20+ blu-ray movies. Was $599.99 worth it? meh maybe not, but I'm not complaining since it is a 60GB :)Nocturnal_Speed

sony is a genius. they engineered a fool proof way to throw away all the profit they made last generation dominating the competition and ultimetly sit in a distant last place.

That truely is a terrible theory. They thought thaat the brand loyalty would carry them to first place, they were wrong. Brand loyalty is the only thing that got them this far this gen.

PS3 only will be able to pass the Xbox360 when its able to match its multiplayer and UI.. At this time the Playstation 3's interface and online is really subpar compared to XBL in features and the like..sSubZerOo

All I know is that there's no way Nintendo could ever pull a stunt like Playstation did and remain in business. Sony has its other business ventures to thank for their ability to stay in the game.

Actually sony put it at a high price becuase they had to...

They lost a lot of money on every console sold, its an expensive system, hence the high price.

If they could have made it cheaper of course they would, but they felt that quality was more important.
