Ever since I bought a PS3 and played around w/ Blu-Ray disks I've always wanted to see if I can scratch one...reports say its very hard/next to impossible to do...and I wasn't willing to risk $60 on trying it....but today I got Virtual Tennis 3 for $19.99 and decided to see if I can scratch the disk.

First I tried w/ my fingernails...nothing...then i tried w/ a screwdriver...nothing...then I got a knife...and after a while it scratched a bit...

so yea...these disks are hard (omg that's what she said :P)

Which side did you try to scratch? Cause the the place (contratry to common misconception) where it hurts if they are scratched, is the part with the decals (up) =P

Edit: At least in music cd's.. Honestly never seen a Blu-ray cd >_>

Sarcasm is my middle name...well no..that would suck..

but what company hasn't done stupid stuff? I mean lets look at the good things they've done in this thread.

I mean should we base MS on Windows ME or Microsoft BOB? or Nintendo on the Virtual Boy?

There's not enough rampant fanboyism in this thread. I demand satisfaction.

Okay, let me get it started:

"Yeah well the PS3 still sucks and the blu ray is too expensive and it has nothing to do with the console war, MS is still going to kick Sony's butt." >_<

Ah, fair enough. I think it's a great thing that Blu-Ray disks don't suffer the problem of scratched disks. Especially with renting, happened to me many times with DVDs.

Happens often.

Just last week my 360 buddy got a 360 game from GameFly that was too scratched to play. So, it was two days of waiting for it to arrive, 5 minutes to see it was scratched, three days for it to be returned, and two more days for a good copy to arrive. It would piss me off to no end. Hasn't happened once in over a year of gamefly service with my blu-ray games.

Maybe you lemmings are used to waiting on broken stuff.

It happened, whatever. Here's your proof, children.

What's sad is the total fanboy in you guys that makes you deny something like this. If you've played games for a couple of years, you know about scratched discs.

What a joke.

Same thing with Blu-ray. The data is stored on the foil, make a scratch through it and the disc is done.

Thats weird actually...Blu-Ray actually has LESS protective coating on both sides as a dvd/cd. If you hold the disk to the light, shiny side facing you, like the Sixaxis, you can see right through it.

Both Bluray and HD-DVD use the Hard Coat scratch resistant stuff. Bluray has to though because the layer between the surface and the part where the data is read from is much closer to the surface. Good call on Sony's part though, not a one of my ps3 games has a scratch on them, my ps2 games would get swirls just pulling it out of the cd case.
