GOTY 2017 will either be Zelda or Persona 5 - agreed?

Both of these games look so damn good. I don't think it's possible that anyone can take that title from them. I don't care that it's only January 13th. It's just not possible. Am I rite, SW?

lol I was just thinking how those two game could get me through the whole year. To hell with Horizon Zero Dawn and Mass Effect Andromeda. Those games can be played later because I won't have time for them at launch.

No idea... its January. But it's pretty safe to say they won't be my GOTY.

Two weeks into 2017 and games that haven't seen the light of day are already being declared GOTY. I think it's a bit early to be declaring master pieces based on trailer videos. I'm not saying I don't think they look good, Zelda looks really special, but the saying "don't count your chickens before they hatch" seems apt.

While I understand that a lot of people here are really looking forward to persona 5, there is no way such a niche game will be game of the year... as for Zelda, that is a possibility but the game spots reporter who had some hand on time didn't seem to be blown away... we will se come march though:)

I can see how teen-me would of thought more of Persona... but come on... friggin school kids in a limited RPG enviroment dealing with with p*ssy little problems with a demon layer underneath....

Persona doesn't belong anywhere near the greatest RPGs ... maybe greatest casual visual novel with a minigame inbetween.

Zelda maybe, Persona 5 most likely not.

You can tell cows really care about PG and Scalebound with their constant teasing and laughing about its cancellation. Good to see they are not the worst fanboys and really care about the gaming industry.

I'd say that Zelda, Mario, Persona 5, and Mass Effect have the highest chance to be GOTY this year.

It's too early to say, but from the games mentioned in this thread so far, if I was to guess the likelihood of them getting GOTY, I would rank them as follows:

1. Zelda BOTW

2. Mass Effect Andromeda

3. Mario Odyssey

4. Horizon Zero Dawn

5. Persona 5

From looking at past patterns of what kinds of games usually get GOTY, you can start seeing a pattern, much like Oscar bait.

Could be anything. The only sure thing is that it will not be on the xbone and the lems will be butthurt and a lot of lem tears will be shed but apart from that, there's nothing sure.

Only new game Ive played this year was the Resident Evil 7 demo. Speaking from experience as opposed to supposition, that shit's my GOTY so far easily.

Ni No Kuni 2, the underdog no one expects to win. The first one was one of my favorite ps3 games.

Persona 5 will be awesome, but even if it gets the best scores it won't be Game of the Year, It's the way it is.

Well, first off, GOTY by who?

I say Mass Effect Andromeda eclipses all. I love Zelda but lets look at its recent, console history. It hasn't been the GOTY game in Skyward or TP. So, why would I gamble on this one being GOTY?

Mario? LOL its Mario, period. I know most of the industry reviewers cream their undies for this crap, but nope. Mass Effect wiil be better imo.

Taking into account more suggestions made in the thread, for the games most likely and least likely to get GOTY, I'd rank their likelihood as follows:

1. Zelda: Breath of the Wild

2. Red Dead Redemption 2

3. Mass Effect Andromeda

4. Super Mario Odyssey

5. Horizon Zero Dawn

6. Persona 5

7. Resident Evil 7

8. Ni No Kuni 2

I'd also say Destiny 2 is a strong contender as well with so few big online fps this year.

Might as well add Nioh , Prey , and Nier Automata.

I don't care what the industry darling ends up being. I'd imagine, just based on the games we know about now, stuff like Zelda, Andromeda, Horizon, and especially RDR2 would be in the running.

For me personally, I think Zelda, Mario, and Nioh all have the potential to win me over. Maybe even Nier or MVCI. But my personal goty isn't usually what I expect it to be.

It could also be Horizon, Mass Effect or Mario Odyssey.

A Link Between Worlds was excellent. The open endedness of the second half is something I would like to see more Action Adventures adopt.

Too good perhaps... my friend spent an entire week or so playing that instead of doing any work >_>

Persona 4 was one of the worst jRPGs I have played.

The whole thing was pretty much nothing more than a bunch of admitedly well executed high school anime tropes. But I strongly dislike these high school animes. And the gameplay... yeah, exploring the TV world was dull, dull dull. Repetitive corridors and copy paste enemies ahoy. One dungeon to the next, and all I got to see was reskin after reskin. Social Linking was from a mechanical standpoint was little more than a dating sim-lite. And dating sims already don't appeal to me.

If I wanted to play Persona 4 again, I would just play a proper dungeon crawler like Nocturne or if I wanted the social linking I was just play a dating sim, or Princess Maker 2.

Edit: After a lot of convincing I got Persona 4 Golden a while back, I lasted only a few hours. I finished the first dungeon, and then realized that all I had to look forward to was 2 ingame weeks of social linking. I shut the game off and never touched it again. Waste of money, waste of time.
