GOTY damage control

For all the blunders GS makes, they typically do a fine job when it comes to GOTY. I personally think they have had spot on picks over the past few years. I would have argued that the 3 runners up in 06; LoZ:TP, FFXII, and Oblivion, were all better than Gears, but still Gears was a solid game and a deserving title.

That said I do have some faith in GS 08 pick being MGS4. Plenty of other great titles this year, so I could be wrong, but at the same time I would be willing to put my money on MGS4.

So hypothetically Im asking....what will you haters say if MGS4 wins? I know the damage control will be massive if it does and I just want to here what you would say.

PS: Calling it a 20 hour movie with 2 hrs of gameplay, or anything remotely close only makes you look...not so smart since anyone who has played the game knows otherwise. Im approaching 150 hrs of pure gameplay on my 10th play going for everything and thats not counting the 50+ hrs lost through re starts.

So try to be more creative and original then saying they just liked the movie since the game is packed full of gameplay and content.

MGS has a lot of Cinematics. A LOT! I love MGS but to ignore that fact is blind fanboyism. Seriously once you hit Act 3 it's like im at the Cannes Festival. This being said I love MGS and I think it has a shot at GOTY but out of all the games I have played this year the one i had the most fuc playing through is either GTAIV or Gears Of War 2.

I would have said Fallout 3 maybe but it had to go into the time out chair seeing how i bought Fable 2, Fallout 3, Resistance 2, and Gears Of War 2 very close to each other Gears just happened to take lots of time away from other games due to my xbl friends list.

Yeah I think you may be right about 37 mins to start. I guess it will come down to how well the GS staff understands MGS gameplay and the value behind it. If you just skim through an MGS game you will typically get 10-17 hrs of gameplay. Which is still better than most games nowadays lol. But if you really see what MGS is built for, replay value, then you might find yourself like many MGS fans getting well over 100 hrs for you investment and a game you can go back to time and time again.

They aren't literally saying you have to play the first three to like it, more you have to be a fan of the franchise to get into it.

Jealousy is a strange motivator, and we now know it's jealousy because of the number calls for a 360 port of the game from many 360 owners. I personally don't think I would want to play it on my 360, it doesn't feel like the right fit for the controls, the graphics, or the media format.

It would be strange playing it on the 360.

The action and controls were better in MGS4, and the graphics made the radio talking more fun. But I think MGS3 was better, the story was better and there were more characters that the story used all the way through (ocelot was funny, Eva). All the characters were memorable.

Plus the radar was less easy to use as it showed animals too, you had to sneak and think more, shooting everyone did not work as loads of people would come with sheilds and PWN you.

Back in 06 I would've given it to Okami

This year I would pick LBP, I love MGS4 but LBP is just awesome

I just wish that Wii Music had a chance at winning GOTY. Not that I like the game, in fact I've never even played it. But the damage on SW would be amazing. organic_machine

Haha! That would be hilarious! If something like Wii Music, or Haze happened to get it I would lol so hard.

Realistically the only MAJOR title this year that I would gripe about for GOTY would be SSBB. If there is one company out there that I have blind loyalty to, its Nintendo. But no matter how hard I tried I could find what was so amazing about SSBB. I bought it on day one and gave it 15 hours of my time trying to find the "magic". I ended up giving it to my GFs lil bro for a bday present cause it really didnt appeal to me.

MGS4 still gives me that wow factor like none other and every time I get done with a new game guess what I go back to? MGS4

Well if you want to say its for 13 year olds then thats fine. I guess the vast majority of games have stories for toddlers then. I didnt know 13 yo kids really liked stories that discuss politics, economy, PMCs, global warming, government conspiracy, aging, nuclear proliferation, information control, etc. etc. but whatever you want to think man.

I will agree that as a long time fan there was way to much melodrama, retcons, fan service etc. but even so, not very many games this gen arguably have a better story.

And thats only one aspect of the game. I think you are forgetting about the superb gameplay, slick graphics and sound and just the overall amazing presentation.

I really made this topic to see what the MGS4 haters would be using as damage control IF it happens to win. Unfortunately no one has really responded to that.

Okay the 2 games still in contention for game of the year are GTAIV and MGS4. Both of those games received a 10, and I would find it hard to believe Gamespot would choose a 9.0 game and a 9.5 game above two games that received the highest scores possible on this site.I_Helios_I

The first game I picked up for my PS3 was MGS4, but I never really liked it. It wasn't the large amount of cutscenes that bothered me like you might expect, but it was the story itself.

 Throughout the story it just felt so over the top I couldn't help but be annoyed. Seemed to be slathered in pointless melodrama and it felt kind of like I was watching a video game version of a Soap Opera. I hated the end where he's talking to that guy on the grave, it felt really weird and they dragged it on too long.

 If they cut the cutscenes down a lot and allowed you to play the game more (wouldn't even have to make more gameplay, just reduce cutscene length) I might have liked it more.

Gears of War 2 is better than LBP and plus its either Gears of War 2 or MGS 4  

Biggest DC would probably be if Gears 2 or LBP wins.

MGS4 got a 10 so people have high expectations for that doing well, but I think GTA IV will win.

lol at the "jealousy" excuse. I've read this a lot from cows. Cows are the ones who kept saying over and over that MGS4 had no chance to come to 360. Several lemmings thought that maybe MGS4 would come to 360 because DMC4 and GTA IV did. FFXIII was announced to come to 360 as well as Tekken. But hey...it is just jealously from the lemmings to say MGS4 could come to 360. After all, PS3 has kept all their big exclusive franchises...:| It seemed logical that lemmings might think MGS4 would come to 360. Cows, for whatever reason, always arrogantly assumed this would never happen even with several exclusive titles going multiplat.
