GOW2 sold 2.5million with a 120Mil base...

Why are cows hyping this as the end of the 360? The second game sold 2.5 millino copies with over 100 million base...

Now dotn get me wrong I LOVED the first GOW, but the second was way too similar adn couldnt finish it. Now everyone knows why Zelda TP got a 8.8 right? It was the best in the series but brought absolutly nothing new to the table. How is that different than GOW3? I feel the highest this game can get ( and this is a over shot really ) is 9.0.

Even than with the first 2 getting such good reviews it sold so poorly I dont see how any cow can say it will "destroy " microsoft and stuff like that.

Was killzone 1 a AAA? Was it considered the best game on the ENTIRE ps2 library by IGN?

yeah i've said this many times, the games on the ps2 didn't sell very well ranging from 1%-9% its insane you'd think these good games would sell more to a 120million user base, the same for the ps3 why aren't the games seller higher?

pirates say hi, sadly sold pirated games aren't tracked , i would say the game sold at least 5 million if pirated games were included.

I'm going to argue the 120Mil install base. it was never a 120 mil people that are going to buy games. not even half that. I for one bought 3 PS2s in my time, and none of my friends had just one. I'm sure as hell ain't going to buy 3 games for each PS2.

and yes, pirecy does count. check out how the PC sales are suffering.

and last but not least, get over it guys, unless u work for MS or Sony, wtf do u care aside from enjoying the game or not? heck even some MS people going to buy GoW3

Do you have a link stating GoW2 only sold 2.5 mill because I thought it did better then that. But regardless most people that loved GoW already own a PS3 and because it will have cutting edge visuals for its time( say graphics dont matter all you want they help sell games) I think it will probably be the best selling GoW yet.

As far as not bringining anything new im going to have to disagree with you. First of all judging by the demo the pacing was great and take into account the levels acutally move in realtime? No game has done that before.

But you haven't really seen people say that though, have you? :P 2.5 million is not "poor" sales either- MGS3 did something like that but MGS4 sold more.

I cannot predict the future but considering the amount of hype there is surrounding GOW3 and if Sony will make a solid marketing/advertising campaign I can easily see GOW3 selling2.5million copies even if PS3's install base is much smaller compared to PS2..

Lets not forget that this time around many cannot pirate the game so if they are huge GOW fans they'll have to buy the original game :)

True but how can we know that GOW sold 2.5 million on an install base of 120 million, and there were another 5 million who got pirate copies ?

WE cannot so only the actual nos for original copies sold can be retreived.. lets wait and see how will sales be for GOW3, but i got a feeling it will most probably match that 2.5 million figure or at least come close to it..

The god of war series has never been a 5 million+ seller like a final fantasy game. In fact, I almost MISSED out on this series. I only picked up the first one late because of the GOTY awards, high reviews, and because the combat looked crazy. Also, I had people who were telling me it was one of the best games they've ever played... That's a pretty bold statement. I didn't usually even buy games like this, but I dove in and took a chance. I'm glad I did.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure though that this game will sell more on the PS3 due to more interest, hype, much MORE advertising, and it will be epic beyond proportions. You have to understand if a action hack n' slash like this game is able to pull off 4mil+ that's actually very good sales. A God of War is really the only hack n' slash that could pull off crazy sales.

1- The PS2 had a huge library of games ( over 3000 games), add to that the huge userbase ( over 120M ) making it hard for people to be aware about or to choose all the games in such a huge library.

2- The PS2 was pirate friendly.

3- The overall general awareness of videogames releases was not as strong as this generation, thanks to XBL and PSN , most gamers these days have an internet connection that helps them be accessible to the gaming sources or/and friends online that provide helpful information.

4- Most of GOW1 and GOW2 sales were only from the US which was around 2.3m copies sold and in EU the game sold only around 150k-200k, expect huge sales from the EU crowd this time around on top of the potentially bigger sales from US.

You know what, quote me right now: God of War III will easily have better sales than God of War I and God War II.

This place is so boring cause of the constant sales talk. Game no longer hold any weigh here, it either sells, or it sucks.

The game could sell 10 million copies and still not affect the success of the 360 or Wii. You really shouldnt take SW posts so seriously. I would expect realistic sales around the numbers of MGS4 though.

LOL God of War 3 @ 9.0 an overshot? I highly doubt that, I guarantee it's 9 or more, but I'm going to guess 9.5. 9 is definitely not an overshot. Especially seeing that ODST (not trying to bash it thought it was great) got a 9, and you can really consider it an expansion to 3 that didn't really bring anything new. But hey it didn't have to, if it's not broken...don't fix it. Just like Modern Warfare 2, it's nothing new from the first, but it's just a solid game that simply works.

Anyways, I can't wait for it because I want to see how the everything works out in the end. That's what GOW did for me was the amazing story and how it uncovered it as you progress. GOW2's story wasn't quite as good (because you already learned about Kratos's past in the first) but it's gameplay (IMO) was more solid than 1.

I have a feeling that 1 and 3 will be the best of the series, and 3 has potential of being the best. So I almost guarantee 9.0 +

GoW is a phenomenal series - truly enjoyable and well crafted experiences. I was happy to know GoW2 sold well, and I'm expecting GoW3 to do even better.
