the rumor i'd like to hear is that Poly is no longer an incompetent developer that can't get chat, private matches and friends list support to work 5 years after those features have become standard in every other racing series that im a fan of

any rumors like that floating around out there???

The Ferrari Enzo and FXX were both in Forza 2... and both were damageable. Though, its good Polyphony is playing catchup.

If the AI is as braindead as it is in previous GT games then big whoop.

Lawl. I think Forza has some pretty good AI though. It gives you a damn good race even on normal difficulty.

i'm doing dirt 2 right now and it's a blast, i actually wimped out and set the difficulty back down to the 3rd hardest (out of 5) just so i could finish unlocking the classic rally cars for the online portion, it breaks my heart to see the GT franchise get run into the ground because PD can't step up and make a game as good as almost any other dev you care to name...

For PD's sake i hope they dont release it in 09, unless they plan to rush it like GTPSP. Sooo sad a game can still be rushed after five years.

I would actually like to see GT5 release in 2009, so that Victor Lucas and Scott Jones can do the Versus review for these games on their show Reviews on the Run. Seriously, that would be the most epic versus review in the show's history, way more than Halo 2 vs Half Life 2 or Resistance 2 vs Gears 2 :)

Rushed after 5 years? This is twice as long as development from gt3 to gt4. If this game is bad and doesn't have the features of GT4 I would seriously claim ownage. But do you honestly think that it will have as little features as gt psp which basically dumped gt 4 tracks and models of gt5 cares into a game.

The AI has been improved. We have seen these improvements in the GamesCon build:

#1 The AI can now spin out. Which means you can fish tail them. And they can fish tail you. "Note the Silver RX7 at the beginning in the IGN video... The RX7 spun out and ran into the guard rail just before the first turn in Tokyo.. so no more "rail" cars it seems.

#2 The AI seems to have the anti-lock breaks turned off. Note that in every video all the cars braking have smoke flying out of the back of them. So it seems wheel lock up is on AI cars and not just our cars. This is good for a sim racer.

#3 The AI cars seem to have no traction control. Computer cars now go sideways in the turns and smoke starts flying out the back tires, they no longer turn like they are a slot car with 10+ traction control.

#4 The AI speed and difficulty seems to be increased some what higher than in Prologue. They're a lot quicker through turns. An example of the huge field slow down in GT5p would be the Daytona Road Course at the chicanes. You can speed through on the apex but the AI just doddles along then speeds up on the straight. Seems like AI will now speed along the apex of turns.

Wow... what a contradiction there. You admit that other games have Ferrari's and damage, and then say that the GT series' lack of said items, and now only getting them isn't catch up? The Ferrari is the epitome of the performance track car. Not having it is like a car without a seat.

GT has been playing catch up with modern sims for the last couple iterations... and it still looks well behind. Is there even going to be a re-paint option in GT5? Or even a custom paint-job maker?

No, but i wouldnt be surprised if they did release in 09 they would have cut out features. Not as big a GTPSP, but im guessing some sacrifices would have to be made.

I guess adding 100 cars makes forza 3 at least a couple interations toward the gran turismo(to gt3) in terms of cars. GT4 had 800, gt 5 had 1000. So I guess it is playing catch up.

nah. GT PSP was obviously just a milking of the gt series. Should sell alot too. But gt 5 should have at least all the features from the previous games. Just add in a better UI. They have the assets, code, etc to make it happen.

Adding features that other games have had for a long time isn't playing catch up.

GT is taking a different path. You must understand that GT doesn't have to have all of those features to be a quality game.

GT will have a "different" set of features.

Yes, there are rumors of a livery editor in GT5. If it does have this feature, don't count on it being the same as Forza's.

Anyway, Gran Turismo is different, and it's aims are different also. GT has kept to its simplicity and has aimed to improve its quality and try to bring it to the highest possible standards.

Even though I hate to say this, GT is like the "Macintosh" of the racing-sim genre.

We've already seen that since 2005.

Earlier then that, PGR series had it since 2001. Can't think of other series, but I am sure they are out there.

Really? What other sims, that focused on a wide range of street cars, were there that GT 3 and 4 were trying to catch up to?

I can tell you that if GT let you put decal stickers on the cars, GameSpot would take away points for it having an identity crisis.

I was talking about one specific type of car, the piece de la resistance of the racing world for most performance enthusiasts. GT3 is the highest rated iteration of the series... and it had 175 cars.

You can see into the future can you? Well, I can too... and I see that when Forza 3 comes out with its hugely in-depth livery editor and wows the Gamespot staff, GT5 will be panned for not including at least something comparable.

Although I agree with you here, we are talking about the OS itself. Mac OS is very simplistic and sleek (I hate macs).

Although I agree with you here, we are talking about the OS itself. Mac OS is very simplistic and sleek (I hate macs).Rikusaki

I'm just kidding with you Rikusaki :P I just didn't think it was a good analogy becuase frankly I find Windows simplistic only because I am use to it.

[QUOTE="nhh18"]I guess adding 100 cars makes forza 3 at least a couple interations toward the gran turismo(to gt3) in terms of cars. GT4 had 800, gt 5 had 1000. So I guess it is playing catch up.

I was talking about one specific type of car, the piece de la resistance of the racing world for most performance enthusiasts. GT3 is the highest rated iteration of the series... and it had 175 cars.

Bugatti Veyron? :P

[QUOTE="Rikusaki"]

What are these "basic driving features" you speak of?

Anyway, Gran Turismo is different, and it's aims are different also. GT has kept to its simplicity and has aimed to improve its quality and try to bring it to the highest possible standards.

Even though I hate to say this, GT is like the "Macintosh" of the racing-sim genre.

Over priced and full of lies(commercials), or snoody and makes people feel elite. Which Mac are we talking about?

lol down with macs.

You can see into the future can you? Well, I can too... and I see that when Forza 3 comes out with its hugely in-depth livery editor and wows the Gamespot staff, GT5 will be panned for not including at least something comparable.

A good critic would not do something like that....but knowing GS... you are probably right.

I can tell you that if GT let you put decal stickers on the cars, GameSpot would take away points for it having an identity crisis.Rikusaki

GT4 scored lower because it didn't have online. GT4 was a better package. Had more cars and more tracks and was a better game and better graphics.

gamespot is usually accurate atm. But I dunno about need for speed shift review. it might be bad.
