Bugatti Veyron? :P

asylumni

That car's performance is mostly straight-line based. The Enzo and FXX are design to be track cars.

A good critic would not do something like that....but knowing GS... you are probably right.

Rikusaki

That right there is an oxymoron. Like military intelligence.

....But seriously. GS would not say, "Oh Forza lets you put decal stickers on the cars and GT doesn't. Minus one point."

These two games shoulnd't even be compared like that.

The AI has been improved. We have seen these improvements in the GamesCon build:

#1 The AI can now spin out. Which means you can fish tail them. And they can fish tail you. "Note the Silver RX7 at the beginning in the IGN video... The RX7 spun out and ran into the guard rail just before the first turn in Tokyo.. so no more "rail" cars it seems.

#2 The AI seems to have the anti-lock breaks turned off. Note that in every video all the cars braking have smoke flying out of the back of them. So it seems wheel lock up is on AI cars and not just our cars. This is good for a sim racer.

#3 The AI cars seem to have no traction control. Computer cars now go sideways in the turns and smoke starts flying out the back tires, they no longer turn like they are a slot car with 10+ traction control.

#4 The AI speed and difficulty seems to be increased some what higher than in Prologue. They're a lot quicker through turns. An example of the huge field slow down in GT5p would be the Daytona Road Course at the chicanes. You can speed through on the apex but the AI just doddles along then speeds up on the straight. Seems like AI will now speed along the apex of turns.

Rikusaki

1.) I've been seeing the AI spin out since Forza 1.....

2.) Seen this since Forza 1.... again....

3.) Seems to again? Again, Forza 1...

4.) Once again with the seems to, I'm glad it took them like 7 games to figure out that the AI needs to offer sort of a challenge. Forza at least has had great AI from day 1.

How are they not playing catch up? Everything they add Forza already offers, and they have put out less games, had a smaller develop cycle, and did so using last generation technology (Forza 1 on the Xbox features plenty of things not found on GT5P). Talk about car count all you want, but when you want to talk features and overall experience, Forza takes it hands down.

From car damage on all vehicles, challenging AI, game modes and features, Forza has the upper hand here, and if GT5 manages to start including things that weren't there originally but suddenly popped up after Forza 3 was finalized, well you now have your answer as to why development took so long.

Ferrari Enzo? That's in Forza 2.... This whole event looks like nothing but showing off things that PolyPhony has put in since their time spent with Forza 3....

Forza 3's livery editor is far more than "decal stickers." Its a per-pixel graphics editor. And in the right hands, even decals can be used to make absolutely amazing images.

And yes, they should be compared like that... because it increases the level of customization. Not only are you capable of customizing how your car runs, but how it looks. Sim racers are all about "customization." Unless you want to claim Gran Turismo is something else other than a sim racer.

I thought sim racers were about simulating the way various cars drives around the track, not what they look like while doing so.

Thats why turn 10 puts a ginormous effort on physics, 360Fps physics engine, newaerodynamics engine, the tire deformation thing, Tires that wear at different points on the tire due to camber, real time telemetry,

[QUOTE="Rikusaki"] They aren't playing catch up... Just stop. Many games have Ferraris with damage. GT isn't playing catch up with them. That's ridiculous.foxhound_fox

Wow... what a contradiction there. You admit that other games have Ferrari's and damage, and then say that the GT series' lack of said items, and now only getting them isn't catch up? The Ferrari is the epitome of the performance track car. Not having it is like a car without a seat.

GT has been playing catch up with modern sims for the last couple iterations... and it still looks well behind. Is there even going to be a re-paint option in GT5? Or even a custom paint-job maker?

Some people like to drive cars, others like to play smash em up and pretend the cars are coloring books... Forza is a great game but it is not tremendously superior just because you happen to think so.

That's not the way PD looks at it.

Again, these two games should NOT be compared like this. Obviously, PD and Turn 10 have completely different approaches to what a racing-sim should be.

It just depends on what kind of person you are.

  • GT is more about the celebration of cars. Very simplistic, sleek and has a very ****/professional presentation of the content. GT games have many concept models and cars that are years from release.
  • Forza is about car culture. Forza games allow for more customization and allows you to express yourself through the automobile. Forza goes for a more upbeat presentation and allows for players to connect online and show off your rides.

Also, Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 on the PS2 had a per-pixel livery editor.

Am I the only one who doesn't want a livery editor of any kind in any GT game ever?

I don't want to see pink Ferrari's with ridiculous riceybody kits and wings that add nothing to performance. That is NOT what GT is about.

Why do people act like car customization isn't part of racer culture?

The Ferrari Enzo and FXX were both in Forza 2... and both were damageable. Though, its good Polyphony is playing catchup.

foxhound_fox
Catch up? Sorry I can't hear you over DOUBLE the car count, DOUBLE the track count, NEW damage system, and better peripherals.

Car customization is not a part of pro racing. Tuning, yes, advert placement, yes, having bizzatman sparyed acorss your car? Need for speed cannon fodder features. But then again, it's forza, not a pro sim.

Exactly. The only customization you will see in a GT game is inside of the car.

^That is just atrocious, sorry to be so harsh, I like your art alot on all of the sigs I have seen around here you have made, but that basically ruins a car IMO. To me that is the equivalent to painting master chiefs face on the statue of david.

You need to have your own personal laugh-track Riku. I can't help but laugh at you everytime you post info about GT5 that would require a stalkers obsession. I even giggle a little when you defend it to the bitter end, no matter how far behind it is in this evolving genre.

If you call this a "stalker obsession with GT5" that makes me number one on most wanted list when it comes to "stalker obsessions" over cars. Love everything about them. I'm just a born petrol head.

i don't even know what to tell gt fans anymore..

the only way i can try to understand the loyalty in the face of what the gt franchise has actually put out lately is to think of some poor person who has only ever had vanilla ice cream and refuses to try anything else, you can try to tell them how good rocky road, strawberry and banana is but they will never believe you unless they try it themselves

thats what GT is now, vanilla ice cream and all the other racers out there have sprinkles, and fudgy topping and whipped cream and even though you like vanilla you look at these people that don't know the difference and all you can do is feel sorry for them and what they are missing out on

You do understand how evolution works right? Not all animals are evolving in the same direction. It branches off into different species. This is what happened with Forza and GT. I already said millions of times before that both games have a very different approach to what a racing-sim should be. They should not be compared like this. Nobody is playing "catch-up."

OMG, what is wrong with you! If you know so much about cars, then please, do remind me of what significance tire camber is, and how caster plays into that role. Your probobly one of those kids who remember 0-60 times, displacements of several cars, and thinks they know everything. This some type of joke, camber is the tilt of a tire, and its mesured in relation to the caster which is the center of the tire meeting the axle. Now dont give me this BS about Forza being a serious car sim. Also you have an american car in your sig...tells me a lot about a person. American cars = rubish....

I've said it a million times before, the GT series has always been limited by the hardware it's running on. Everyone knows the PS2 had a piddly online user base and a slow, complicated hardware architecture. This isn't the case with the PS3. The online base has gone from practically non existent to almost everyone who owns a PS3 and the hardware is basically the same as it's competitor. I'm going to go ahead and say it; if Forza outscores GT then I'll be convinced Polyphony are in fact talking the wrong route and focusing on the wrong aspects of the game.

[QUOTE="CaparoT1"][QUOTE="Tobin09"] OMG, what is wrong with you! If you know so much about cars, then please, do remind me of what significance tire camber is, and how caster plays into that role. Your probobly one of those kids who remember 0-60 times, displacements of several cars, and thinks they know everything. You not being able to distinguish a CG cars dancing video, from gameplay, proves to me you don't have the mental capacity to understand the inner workings of a car.Tobin09
This some type of joke, camber is the tilt of a tire, and its mesured in relation to the caster which is the center of the tire meeting the axle. Now dont give me this BS about Forza being a serious car sim. Also you have an american car in your sig...tells me a lot about a person. American cars = rubish....

Ok, so you googled it good job. Tells more about you to judge based on stereotypes, I mean, hating on american cars is the cool thing right?

Googled? hah you're actually a joke... And its not the "cool thing" generally american cars suck. The ZR1 is respectable, but it has its limits. GM, Ford, etc make some of the worst cars. the only american car company i can show respect to is Shelby. (though dont get me wrong i love my american classics Pontiac GTO :P now thats a good old american car 350hp v8)

[QUOTE="PS3_CowBoy"]

If GT5 release date is announced...OMFG!!!

heretrix

If OMFG = It's about dang time, then, yeah I agree.

Explain what "about dang time" means. This is more like "on time" considering what they've been working on in the past. Why do people still think Poly has spent forever and a day on GT5 :?.

Ruf is a tuning company of porsche and makes most of the parts that make a porsche.

I don't know, but if they do it doesn't make a difference. Ford wouldn't have anything to do with the cars Shelby puts out.

Cool. GT5 during holiday would be good for Sony. Personally, I would rather wait so they can put proper physics/damage on every car in the game :|.

It completely backs up your statement. No need to be so defensive all the time.
