The AI has been improved. We have seen these improvements in the GamesCon build:
#1 The AI can now spin out. Which means you can fish tail them. And they can fish tail you. "Note the Silver RX7 at the beginning in the IGN video... The RX7 spun out and ran into the guard rail just before the first turn in Tokyo.. so no more "rail" cars it seems.
#2 The AI seems to have the anti-lock breaks turned off. Note that in every video all the cars braking have smoke flying out of the back of them. So it seems wheel lock up is on AI cars and not just our cars. This is good for a sim racer.
#3 The AI cars seem to have no traction control. Computer cars now go sideways in the turns and smoke starts flying out the back tires, they no longer turn like they are a slot car with 10+ traction control.
#4 The AI speed and difficulty seems to be increased some what higher than in Prologue. They're a lot quicker through turns. An example of the huge field slow down in GT5p would be the Daytona Road Course at the chicanes. You can speed through on the apex but the AI just doddles along then speeds up on the straight. Seems like AI will now speed along the apex of turns.

1.) I've been seeing the AI spin out since Forza 1.....
2.) Seen this since Forza 1.... again....
3.) Seems to again? Again, Forza 1...
4.) Once again with the seems to, I'm glad it took them like 7 games to figure out that the AI needs to offer sort of a challenge. Forza at least has had great AI from day 1.
How are they not playing catch up? Everything they add Forza already offers, and they have put out less games, had a smaller develop cycle, and did so using last generation technology (Forza 1 on the Xbox features plenty of things not found on GT5P). Talk about car count all you want, but when you want to talk features and overall experience, Forza takes it hands down.
From car damage on all vehicles, challenging AI, game modes and features, Forza has the upper hand here, and if GT5 manages to start including things that weren't there originally but suddenly popped up after Forza 3 was finalized, well you now have your answer as to why development took so long.
Ferrari Enzo? That's in Forza 2.... This whole event looks like nothing but showing off things that PolyPhony has put in since their time spent with Forza 3....
