Gran Turismo (not Forza) is now part of the Olympics

This is great to see the king of racing finally make it to the biggest stage of competition. There's no doubt Gran Turismo is a far bigger, better and more realistic franchise than any of its competitors.

Makes some sort of sense, since this is more a PR program based around sports simulation games accredited by actual sports governing bodies. In GT's case, they're supported by the FIA.

A virtual Olympics, basically a participation ribbon LOL.

Forza is for the forgettable casual experience. GT is for real fans of racing games (not I_P of course).

Gran Turismo Sport is a superb racer. Stumbled a bit on release but its now worthy of the name. Love the game, highly recommends the multiplayer mode it has a really great progression mode and rewards you for respecting the rules of sport.

I think motorsport is one occasion where gaming skilsl can translate to actual real life skills.

Youtuber Super GT who streams GTS is now in a real life race team with Lando Norris and Jimmy Broadbent is racing in real life now as well.

How come every Forza for the last decade has a higher MC than GT?

Have you ever played either of them?

Forza and GT Sport aren’t full blown sims like you find on PC but GT Sport comes closer to that than Forza. Yes I’ve played both including the most recent Forza 7 game.

Owned Forza 1 and 2. Played most of the GT. Skipped the last three Forza games

@gym_lion: I've played Forza 7 on PC GP and I own GTS. GT is a true driving simulation whereas Forza is more for people who want to paint cars.

You're not going to trigger me on this one. I think both are excellent driving games. I play Forza more though as my friends play it and we race a few evening a week. Plus I find the penalty points on GTS a bit to harsh.

You would need to own a PS5 or PS4 to play it so you would be SOL anyway lol.

In 6 weeks, it will have been 20 years since the release of the last Gran Turismo game to score a 90 or above, on Metacritic.

That game came out before 9/11 happened, and we were not at war with Afghanistan, for a reference for how long its been.

Forza has had like 6 or 7 games score above a 90 on Metacritic in that same timespan. And very likely will have one this fall, in Horizon 5.

Assetto Corsa is by far more realistic and more of a true racing simulator than both Forza & GT Sport combine. You would think Assetto Corza would be on the top list.

That's the one I haven't tried. I heard it's better on PC than on console too so I might break out the wheel and give it a try.

If I had to guess, another reason is likely that Gran Turismo is a more popular and, recognizable brand as well.

Well that would make a lot of sense. because, 1. Forza series is very arcady and 2. the xbox sold only like 10 mill when it comes to last gen sales numbers.

The only way you would think Forza was very arcady would be if you never played a Forza game or an arcade racing game. It's not iRacing level sim but neither is GT.

Might as well include Mario Kart in the mix

A gold medal for esports while the world's top athletes break records is deeply embarrassing. People looking like they're fresh out of a basement in an event which also has people at their peak physical performance.

Considering that GT is working with FIA, partnered up with Nissan for GT Academy, placing GT in some some car auto shops etc. it's not really surprising to hear about this.

GT has been pretty reputable in that regard.

It's no wonder that GT is chosen. GT has held a number of international events, including FIA-supported World Championships, with professional players from around the world.

Pretty sure Xbox players won't be taking part in this lol.

I have zero problem with an esports event. But I wouldn't turn up to an event with the worlds top athletes with my video games.

Makes sense. All you have to do is add a couple of those massive and fugly PS5s to either end of a barbell and you're set for a powerlifting competition.

Alternatively, just set up a bunch of them on the track for the hurdles competition.
