Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars PSP - only sales 12k first week

It did good in the first week it got about 90k units sold and so far it got 700k acording to VGchartz, the average for DS games.

GTA4 sucked and i do have a psp and i am/was big GTA fan but after GTA4 i really cant see me ever playing a gta game again

I guess Rockstar is going to have to port the game again to get the desired number of sales.

This is what I've been telling everyone since day one, its not that people who own a DS don't want a GTA game (because they do) its the fact that Rockstar went back to the topdown view (instead of 3D sandbox like all the other recent games) and that's what scared everyone but the core gamers off.

Nothing. I bet that people will buy the next top down GTA game in droves (even on the DS) because they all heard so much good about the first one.

This also opened the door for other developers to make top down games.

This game is a joke its so good.. why oh why does it get nothing in return?

I think rockstar needs to realize the reason this game isn't selling is because the name sucks so bad. I mean Chinatown wars... Talk about the most boring/lame title to a game you can add after GTA. If they changed it to like ..something good it might sell

Sorry the PSP is a miserable failure compared to its competittor the DS,both critically and commercially.

The rampant piracy it suffers from has pretty much sealed its fate.

Actually, the PSP has been a pretty big success for sony. Unlike the 360 and PS3, it is actually selling alot of units, so I fail to see your point. Entering the handheld market was deemed suicide for sony by most, but they're making some really big money from it, and have taken a large chunk of a very large demographic from nintendo.

Is that retail sales and PSN or just retail? I know when i buy it im downloading it off the playstation store.

Edit: Just checked teh PSN store and GTA CTW is on the top 10 list of last weeks downloads and that going up against COD WAW map packs which were all 50% off, ratchet and clank demo, trine(awesome game), and abbey road for beatles rock band.

It's probably not as bad as it sounds, as it is downloable. But the DS version sold 64,000 retail its first week.

He got the sales from VGChartz... it's not that hard to find. This figure does NOT include PSN number, since VGChartz has another page for the PSN version.

I know VGChartz' numbers aren't always currect, but it's still a source more reliable than a gamer's own imagination. PSP's sales is looking pretty bad, I doubt PSN numbers would help much... it's not like PSPGo is selling crazy.

I seriously don't get it. We have a portable handheld (PSP) & a home gaming console (Wii) who each have 56 million owners, but yet, 3rd party games don't sell well on either one of them. Why?

That's pretty hilarious considering how so many Sony fans were saying how this game didn't belong on the DS and would sell so much better on PSP.

That is sad to hear. I have the DS version and it is awesome. I read many reviews that stated the PSP game was even better, which makes this even worse.

Still, I wonder what kind of comments this thread would have if those numbers were posted by the DS version. In fact, I think I shouldn't even think about that. :P
