i found the online to be of sub-par standard. it just didnt seem well implemented.

Why do billions still play Counter Strike Source when 1.6 is so much better? I dont know. Because they haven't discovered better online shooters like Rainbow Six? Or heck, even Halo 2?

All i know is the multiplayer is awful. And the game received too high a rating for the reasons already stated. In my opinion.

EDIT: rainbow six and halo 2 comments are in reference to people still playing gears... not counter strike. (though i think rainbow six is better than counter strike anyway :P)

Honestly, i've played a heck of a lot more Gears than you have. And it just isn't that great a game. And the multiplayer is the biggest example of that. Whereas the single player is "great, but not as good as it's hyped to be..." the multiplayer goes further. It's terrible.

Honestly, i'd be willing to make a bet that when Slyprince has played the game for as long as i have - and anyone else for that matter - they would agree entirely with my take on it. I dont know a single person who's played for the same length of time who doesn't hate it.

For the first couple of weeks or months, depending on how often you play games, it's just a fun shooting game. After a while, you quickly start to become irritated by it 'til the point that you cant stand playing it any longer.

i have to agree i loved gears when i first got it, i mean sheesh it was fricken awsome, i still like the SP to this day, but the MP... halo 2 has better MP and thats just sad for a next gen game... its MP really turned me off from it. n

That's where you fall down; you're assuming all of the people playing Gears of War bought it launch day? Heck i'm sure 50cent bulletproof still sells; PS2s still sell like hotcakes. So i could say "it MUST be good because a year after launch people are still buying it!"

Face it man; you cant cite people playing as a reason for the game being awesome. You just cant. Every game, no matter how awful, has people playing it. And heck compared to Halo 2 or Counter Strike the number of people playing Gears isn't even that impressive.
