Graphics DO matter

I don't care what sheep say, the simple truth is graphics matter more now than ever, we have the technology to put gamers into a far more immersive gaming world than ever before. A game like Bioshock can only work so well because the graphics pull you into the world and add to the illusion that you're in Rapture, it would not work half as well on the Wii, games like Metroid Prime corruption simply can't compete because the developers do not have the tools to create next generation games. Next to Bioshock , Metroid Prime corruption seems like some ancient relic of the past that has no place in the modern world.

Nintendo sold sheep down the river with the Wii, it's simply not capable of taking advantage of what next gen gaming can offer, Bioshock is proof that Nintendo got it wrong, graphics matter a great deal.

They matter to everyone. Give me an example of a game that if we were to drastically improve the graphics but keep the same gameplay would actually turn out to be a worse game because of it. I can give you many exampleswhere a downgrade in graphics would meana worse game- PGR series, Gears of War, Bioshock, Oblivion, GT series .... hell even the arcade cl'a'ssic Geometry wars was better with a new lick of paint on it.

Great game + Improved graphics = Better game.

If SSBB looked even more amazing than it does Wii owners would not be complaining and asking for a downgrade in order to improve the gameplay heh.

Geometry wars HD is almost an entirely new game.

Great graphics are more often the result of a great artistic style, rather than great technical graphics.
As such, games like The Curse of Monkey Island can have flawless graphics without being all that great, technically.

Of course, a combination of the two (like in Bioshock) is always great to see.
Then again, I still play stuff like Ultima, so technical graphics don't mean a whole lot to me - I prefer my imagination, anyway. :P

We all know that... I'm just saying that Graphics do not matter THAT much... I find OoT better than Tp (not including Wii controls, since then it's too close) and that is because the gameplay is so good... even though the graphics are horrible in 2007

You see, you guys with you, "gameplay > graphics" are completely missing the point. Graphics are part of the gameplay. Graphics can get you into the game more which, in turn, affects the gameplay. Otherwise why spend all of this money developing consoles with all of this equipment for graphics?

Sorry but unless you exclusively game on a pc, you have no right to say 'graphics are important' because 2-3 years from now all consoles will look like child's play compared to what graphics cards after the 8800 and 2900 series will be able to dish out, then the only thing distinguishing any of the kiddie console from one another will be the games and the gameplay, something only the wii can differentiate itself in due to it's offer even the pc cannot bring.

Compete directly with a pc and your console is dead in the water. Consoles are all toys, pc's are serious machines. You'd better make your console focus on something different, interesting and innovative, or your console will be outdated VERY quickly, if you try to pass it off as a pc.

I game on pc and wii. It is not self ownage because I was never a graphics whore. Too many console only graphics whores are setting themselevs up for major rape. I'm just trying to show them how pathetic they are, trying to compare their cheap machines with real pc's.

Yes, graphics do matter, but not nearly as much as you would have us beleive. Good plot, setting, characters, level design, controls & difficulty levels are more important to making a game good then graphics are. This goes for any system. And because all those things constitute gameplay, Gameplay > Graphics.Aqua-Vitae
