Nobody ever said graphics matter more than gameplay.dracula_16
I never said they did but if you read my post you should understand.
Well when do we in SWs talk about RELEASED games? All we ever go by are screenshots and videos, its pretty hard to argue whether or not a game has good gameplay mechanics when it has yet to be released.
On a side note I wonder if thats the reason a lot of Wii titles don't get any recognition here?
Is it just me or are too many people arguing over graphics and all that techno stuff. I mean if the graphics are really good (Crysis) or really bad (bully:scholarship edition) then they can make a difference but theres too many peope just arguing over which game has the best graphics and textures (like gta4 360 vs ps3 720p debate) when people should be arguing over how good the gameplay is and its different features. Or wether consoles have good online, cheaper price, more features instead of graphics potential and how many processing cores it has. The gameplay, physics, audio, online, length and replayability all matter more than graphics to me aslong as there not oo bad.angelkimne
Arguing that graphics are meaningless in the face of gameplay is either pretentious or being short sighted. The fact is, having terrible graphics bottlenecks the experience of playing that game. How good graphcis need to be depends on the game itself. I like to think there is a minimum level of graphcis that is needed and unique to every game. An example is FPS games. There needs to be good graphics in an FPS game so that the gameplay can be advanced, such as, details of vegetation need to be good if a feature in the game is the ability to hide behind or in that vegetation. Or inidivual body parts must be detailed carefully so that players can know where to shoot someone.
Certain games have a much lower graphical requirement, like Echochrome, or WiiSports. Having said this, Gameplay is the key factor, but not the only major factor in whether a game is good.
I disagree.
Gameplay + Graphics y > Gameplay - Graphics
thrones
Yeah obviously it's better to have both. But in a lot of 360 and PS3 games, they have awesome graphics but pretty ordinary gameplay that does nothing new, it's better to have interesting and fun gameplay than just shiny new graphics.
For someone like me, a Sheep, graphics don't mean much..as long as I'm getting what I paid for.
As for people like Hermits, it means almost everything.
majadamus
About 1/1000 hermits in sw feel that way..
About 1/10000000000 feel that way everywhere.
IMO the pc usaully is running around with the best gameplay award and most innovative award.

yeah, and the graphics in lair were crap anyway. graphics also includes framerate, visual bugs and glitches, physics etc.
Anyone who thinks Graphic>gameplay probaly doesn't even exist.
But the overall technolgy behind a game, Physics, Graphics, Optimization etc.... effects gameplay ALOT it really does and its really obvious.

Gameplay and graphics are both important to me.
Why do some people think that it is impossible to have good graphics AND good gameplay at the same time? Take a look at Crysis... good graphics and good gameplay in perfect harmony. In a few days, I am getting a new PC with a 9800GX2 graphics card (I already ordered my own customised rig, but waiting for the store to give me callback when its been built). I will be getting the best of BOTH worlds, while you have to deal with older graphics. Don't get me wrong, I love playing consoles and handhelds too, but when I get my new gaming PC within a few days, I will be a proud hermit for sure :)

You pretty much took the words right out of my mouth there.
Graphics in terms of realism mean almost nothing to me.
Graphics in terms of the art style of a game are vastly important.

Depends on the game. Not every game can have an artstsyle. Imagine if Gears of War had Okami graphics. Obviously, the artstyle would not suit the game, so you need realistic graphics for games like Gears of War, Crysis, etc. As for Mario games, you can go for the artistic graphics there. Thats my opinion on it :)

Gears of War isn't exactly "realistic". It has its own art style too. The only video game I can think of that try to perfectly nail "realism" (and mostly succeed) is Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. Most every other game is atleast a little cartoony or unrealistic, or has exaggerated features of characters.

I see. Well, Gears of War has got artstyle with the low colors (nearly everything looks like greyscale), but some of the things you look at are mildly realisitic. Not as much as GT5, I agree, but then again its much less artistic than your average Mario or Ratchet and Clank game :)
