Have fun with pong and space invaders then.Oriental_JamsWell for their time they had good gameplay but they can't be compared to games today..your argument fails!

I will. Those games are really fun.
Maybe about 20 years ago...
Yeah but it's always nice to have them, good graphics can do more than just make a game look game, they're no neccesity but like I said, graphics can do more than make a game look good.ONLYDOD
Yeah its just people argue over what graphics are better so much and it doesn't matter in the end because you could have super awesome graphics but a bad game
IMO graphics and gameplay depend on each other now adays. I will never buy a game that has TERRIBLe graphics but good gameplay or AWSOME gaphics but terrible gameplay. Both are necessary for sucess.

No, even today. Some games are just timeless.
graphics matter to a certain point, imo, all they need to be is polished and consistant, run at a smooth frame rate and few jaggies, then its fine. But if the game is unpolished, bad frame rate, tons of jaggies, bad art direction, constant texture and geometry pop in, then lets face it no ones gonna wanna play it even if the game play is good youre eyes are just gonna be to distracted by the fact that the game is so ugly that youll enjoy it much less than if the game looked amazing.
like lets say cruisin for wii had gameplay similar to grid or something, lets be honest, no ones going to buy it, or even get interested in it.
I think the search for photo realism is pointless, but graphics most certainly are not.
I don't agree with Nintendo's perspective of staying on obsolete hardware and focusing on game play, new forms of game play is very much hardware reliant and graphical quality helps create the world and set the mood for a game in ways that weren't possible previously.
Post processing and particle effects are just two types of visuals that can greatly impact the atmosphere in a game.

Only if you're traped on a desert island...
How about we all agree that gameplay is more important BUT the graphics for games have to be to a certain extent to be acceptable...Roushrsh
I nominate you for systemwars king.
Graphics mean nothing if you don't have good gameplay..So all these posts about which system/game has better graphics is pointless (This post is not supposed to advocate any system)crazymaghie123
I agree, but can't halp shake the feeling that you are a Nintendo fanboy.
I don't think graphics and gameplay are two different things, graphics is part of gameplay that adds to the total gaming experience. Frame-rate, Textures, Lighting(or lack of), Color (or lack of), Scale.. although passive, is a large part of gameplay.
Graphics is not a new topic for gaming. Though it sounds ridiculous now days, the difference between early consoles was often graphics like color lmao.
Can you have a good game without MGS4,GeoW,Uncharted,GT5:P graphics? definitely, thought it depends on the type of game the developer is trying to make. If you make a puzzle game (word womp, Echocrome, ect) you don't necessarily need allot of graphics. BUT! if you are trying to make a simulator or trying to make a game feel true to life, you need graphics.
It's all work toward a hologram room :P
