I wish gaming was going stale, my wallet hurts
I take that back, I love gaming specially this gen, even if it's making a big arse dent into my wallet.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. :P Still, it's what helps me, as for others, I can't say there's a surefire solution in today's industry[QUOTE="Ballroompirate"]

The only true hardcore gamer is a spoiled kid honestly with a parent that would buy you any console you asked for like 700 dollar 3do and the casualization of everything is really turning me away from gaming.posersRus84

I do enjoy making sigs.Â
Can't wait to see it. :P
I've gone through periods like that.Â
You need a break and/or a new title that is off the beaten path. For me, the 3DS and the XBLA got me reinvigorated after a small hiatus in gaming.Â

[QUOTE="casharmy"]3ds, 360, ps3, wii uHave you played Demon's Souls and Dark Souls? Can you tell us what platforms you own to give us a better understanding of the range of content you are judging from. Â

I was on the verge of giving up this generation and I had similar feelings as to what you describe in you OP until I played Demon's Souls...blew me away and single handedly brought me back into gaming.

Same.
My enjoyment of gaming has been on a steady decline for about 5 or 6 years now.
Its starting to become more of a time killer rather than a hobby I'm invested in. Â I dont get excited to go out and buy a new game the day it comes out anymore. Â And when I do buy a game it might sit there un-opened for weeks.
I've been gaming for about 25 years and I guess its just starting to get old. Â Plus I can think of more productive ways to enjoy my time. Â Not using the age thing as an excuse though, I know guys that have been gaming for 30-35 years that are still obsessed with the hobby.
But for me, the magic is lost.
I don't know if it's due to the long generation or just not having enough free time anymore... But gaming has seriously gotten stale. I'm looking forward to GTA V, but that's about it. I just find myself gaming on iOS anymore. I'm in a serious slump. Anyone else?i3DS
get a WiiU and you'll be having as much fun as this guy
I had the same thing a few years back, was a prolific gamer from childhood through to my mid twenties and then it kind of tailed off. Having a kid rekindled my interest though, nothing brings back the magic of gaming like seeing it through the eyes of a child. My enjoyment of gaming has been on a steady decline for about 5 or 6 years now.

Glad I stuck with it, I still find the occasional game that gives me the kind of entertainment experience I can't get elsewhere. Sure there's a lot of generic crap that just feels tiresome now, but the occasional game like Dark Souls still has the power to suck me in. I'm also finding a lot of really original, engaging experiences coming out of the indie scene.
I hope to be gaming at some level for the rest of my life, maybe not in the way I did as a kid, but at least staying open to it as an entertainment medium so I can experience some of the great games still to come.

Sounds like we're on the same page man. Â Started gaming regularly at about 5 years old and in my mid 20s it was just like BAM! Â This isnt so interesting anymore.
I dont have kids, but I do have kid sisters that visit and I can always get into the fun of gaming when they're around. Â
And yeah, I also find the occasional game that brings back the spark. Â Like you said, the Souls games, the indie scene, etc.. the last time I fully felt the wonder of gaming was with SMG2 though and thats been a while.
Gaming will always be a part of my life, but of course it cant be the way it was. Â On the one hand I'm just getting older and harder to impress. Â On the other hand, mainstream gaming is increasingly distancing itself from the kinds of experiences I like.
Besides that, guys like us grew up in the golden age. Â We got to see all the major jumps. Â We got to see the birth and evolution of so many different genres. Â When a new generation of hardware came out, it was huge! Â We enjoyed the glory days of the arcades. Â As gaming was "growing up", so were we.
I don't think gaming will ever be that exciting again.
I'm growing a little tired of it all, but its to be expected. Â You get older and other aspects of life just become more important.
For me it comes in phases though. Â Sometimes I'm all about some games, sometimes I go months without even caring.
The real b*tch of it is that I loved games so much I pursued a career in the field. Â Now that I finally broke in I find myself caring about games less and less, how f*cked up is that?
Maybe you're treating gaming as you would a job. You should just remember you don't have to play everything that comes out, or spend all of your free time gaming. It makes the experiences more enjoyable when they're a treat to yourself after a good, productive day.
Yeah, i'm getting a bit tired...well just a little, i mean i loved Bioshock Infinite but aside from Last of Us there isn't really that interesting in the near future, most of the time i'm playing KOF XIII and Devil Survivor.
I think it has to do with my mood, because i've been having some issues on a personal level, i'm sure if i get mi life back on track i will be interested in Video Games again as much as always.
