The majority of people who own both say that Gears 2 is better, including me. And I liked FoM better than the original Gears.
From a technical standpoint, ignoring all else, Gears 2 is the best looking console game currently available. I'm a bit surprised it wasn't included. aflakian
Well, in all honesty I think Dead Space has better graphics, I even voted DS over MGS4 cuz I liked them that much.
As for GeoW2, I have a theory but it's a bit farfetched:
I think they left it out so they could include it (again) in 09 awards seeing how the competitions for the next year is not as close as this year... I mean we have RE5, KZ2, Halo what else??

However, I do agree that it should've been included for best 360 game. GameSpot didn't even put one exclusive title on that list.

Looks like MGS4 will get GOTY, so I voted for NHL just for kicks. LBP and GeOW2 weren't nominated, so the fans of those games are force to vote for something else which make the GameSpot voting process invalid imo.

I know wtf :S gears 2 fixed everything but the intentionally bad dialog (to appeal to the fanbase) and the fanbase, while making the graphics amazing and adding more weapons and expanding the mulyiplayer, that is undoubtly the most improved sequel. Resistence 2 shouldn't be as prevalent on the lists as it is, the two multi-player types are good but the single player is so full of fail that it brings the whole thing down. Just needed to bring that up.

And add Horde mode (underrated), new multiplayer modes, a party function, more weapons, dueling (it does change things), frag tagging and other touches and you might realize its not just more of the same.
I believe Gears of War 1 won two years ago, Super Mario Galaxy won last year, and MGS4 will win this year on GameSpot. It's so obvious. Congrats to all the nominees and winners. It's been an awesome year for gaming imo.

More like WTF!!! Even though I think it should be on GOTY list instead of NHL, its not that bad (though it is unacceptable), but not best technical graphics and best 360... were they on crack!!! After this, I dont care if MGS4 wins GOTY, because even cows can see from just that, along with other things, that GS doesnt bear much love for the 360 this year. P.S. For those saying that lemmings got owned by MGS4 winning GOTY (and who can doubt it will on GS), you might wanna check out Gameranking for OTHER opinions on the game. If GS gave it an 8, I would stake my life that would vanish from these forums and reappear on another.

exactly what im thinking. gears is a huge improvement from the first imo. and even though some ppl will say it isnt it still got great scores across the board. resistance 2 on the other hand may have improved too but its still getting mediocre critic scores (87 metascore?) little big planet is the most unique and innovative game and ssbb was flat out the best game for wii this year. each of these three games could have won game of the year in for their consoles and gamespot left them out for nhl 09 and burnout.... this is like if espn wrote a year in review about sports and didnt mention michael phelps winning 8 golds, or the giants beating the patriots, or tiger woods winning injured.... so sad gamespot, so sad.

i mean its good but its def not goty quality and it is pretty avg for the amount of hype it got. fable2, gears2, ssbb, dead space, little big planet all had better avgs. i no this is gamespots awards but my point is that they shouldnt have included a game just bc it made some improvements when there were just flat out better games this year.

SO true the online imo is a mess. Takes forever to get in a game. ALso sometimes pure BS happens. Its mainly cause the lag or the game itself is just retarted. THe chainsaw crap has to be one of the biggest offenders. Still kinda fun if you can handle all that crap.
