The Wii was a fad. Motion controls are dead. Manufacturers need to stop investing in this junk so gaming can move on in a positive direction. Mario Odyssey would have been much better if Nintendo didn't include motion controls (the game only uses 4/14 buttons on the controller... all the motion control junk could have easily been mapped to buttons... shaking my controller to jump higher as a frog isn't immersive). You're assuming that VR headsets will never be comfortable to wear for long periods. How about phones? Did they stay as massive bricks? Desktop PCs, do they still take up a whole room?
Also you talk about high-quality displays, but once again, you're assuming that displays will never improve. You're going to be very surprised as VR displays will increase in resolution faster than TVs / Monitors. By the time 8k TVs are the norm in households, 8k per eye would likely have already settled in as a standard for a couple of years.
You also don't have to use motion controls, even if they are the preferred way. There are plenty of games that allow you to use gamepad, like Resident Evil 7, Elite Dangerous, Chronos, Project Cars 2, Lucky's Tale, Edge of Nowhere, Skyrim VR, etc.
