This steriotype first off needs to end. "PD are slow devs!"? before making a statement like this, you first need to back it up with facts.

heres a fact for you all. GT5 is made from scratch. new engine/code. And this doesnt happen with a blink of an eye. Killzone 2 took 4 years to make because it too was made from scratch, and basicly every other big game that has a new engine built for it. Forza 3 on the other hand, is made from Forza 2 engine, so the engine is already there and ready for action.

quote from Kaz:

"From our perspective, it doesn't seem like that long a time," he said. "To make Gran Turismo 5, we threw away the legacy code from GT4 and started from scratch. It's been five years from [the release of] GT4, and that's the same amount of time it took to develop the first GT4. To create a game from scratch, that's the amount of time it takes to get it right."

But the next game won't take as long, Kazunori acknowledged, as it can largely build on the team's existing work. "GT5 represents a whole new operating system," he noted, while "GT6 is just new apps that run on the GT5 system."

link

another fact, GT5 wasnt the only thing PD were working on. they also made...

GTHD
GT5P
GTPSP
New online system for GT5

and a few more that i dont remember from an interview with kaz. (if some1 can list them that would be great.)

so by mentioning ALL of these, do you still think the GT5 release date is not justified? not to mention, ALOT more content compared to forza 3, 1000 cars. let me repeat, 1000 cars. and a 60 million $$$ budget.

if you look at PD's history, then you would know that they are not slow devs.

linkay

now about the DEMO that came out. if you read it says, GT5 Academy DEMO. this demo is not made to show off how beutiful the game is. if it were then wouldnt you think that they would have chosen a better track then indianapolis? like seriously. this demo is to show off the FINAL physics of the game. and the person who gets the fastest time gets a free tour of something (i dont remember). to those who complain that their car spins when they make a turn then i have this to say to you. 1. learn to drive, 2. If you go to Driving Options, and look down it says Driving Physics, and its set on PROFESSIONAL. and it cant be changed in this demo. so if you are used to standard then too bad.

and thats that. so haters really need to stop with same line over and over again, "oh, GT5 took this long, pd took that long, forza 4 out before gt5!". like seriously, do your homework. that being said, i do think that forza 3 is the best sim racer out there until proven otherwise. if GT5 gets below a 9.5 then i will admit ownage and make no excuses (maybe lol). have a good day

The game is still going to sell more copies than the entire forza series combined lol. They have already sold enough copies of Prologue that if they dont even release GT5 they have already made profit.

GTHD, GT5P, and GT's online system, (none actually being full games, one not even a game) were all made around GT5, meaning most of the assets in those demo's or games, what ever you want to call them, are included in GT5, and make up a large portion of GT5's actuall development. PD has only really made GTPSP this gen.

True, but I would hardly call a game that came out less than two months after this gen started on the PS2 apart of this generation.

No, PD is very slow

Since GT4, the following Forza games have been released

Forza

Forza 2

Forza 3

That is beyond pathetic.

And now with the confusing PSP showing (uh, hello career mode is WHY most of us play these games) and the ugly "Demo" that has questionable physics, I am starting to wonder ALOT about PD

All I can say is that GT5 has become a wait and see game, if it delivers I will buy it

That's all very interesting but ultimately meaningless to the gamer. As a gamer, I see that GT4 and Forza came out at roughly the same time, 2005. And that Turn 10 have produced two fantastic sequels since then while Gran Turismo fans have yet to see one.

i like how all eyes and talks are on GT5 rite now. really shows how great the franchise is and how its full of history. hate it or love it, the granddaddy of sim racers. easily one of, if not the most antisipated games of 2010

I believe they were working on that during GT5's development, according to wiki "In an April 2008 interview, Kaz revealed that 150 people had worked on Gran Turismo 5 for three years..", which would mean development started back in 2005 around GT4's release date, with a very large work force.

ewww GT5...that game with the 2d trees, cardboard people, lackluster demo? Obviously they didn't work that hard on something that ugly. Demos are samples of how a game is most likely going to be like and thats how it turned out? no thx

Halo Reach new engine Coming out next year Thread/walkingdream

That contributed abso-lutely nothing to the discussion.

I think the physics in the demo were pretty good. The graphics weren't bad either, but I don't think they're final anyways.

well since you say gt4 came out at the same time as forza, and then turn 10 released forza 2 and 3 after. this should mean somthing right? but PD has sold 14 million copies of GT4 while forza series hasn't come close. rushing a game to change a little bit as a time is wastefull. turn 10 should have spent a ton more time on the forza series and it would have been 10 times as better.

edit:: sorry GT4 has only sold 10 mill GT3 is the one that sold 14 mill,

if the GT5 demo is final "simulation" driving physics I won't be buying it. I didn't care much about the graphics. I'd rather they would of worked on the physics more than making it pretty.

The physics are good with the controller and even better with a wheel.

It remind me of F355 Challenge and some Lexus Simulator at the LA auto show in which both are superb sims.

It has every thing to do with what the TC said about games that are made with new engines.

GT5 is made from scratch. new engine/code. And this doesnt happen with a blink of an eye. Killzone 2 took 4 years to make because it too was made from scratch, and basicly every other big game that has a new engine built for it.

-cut-

Revolution316

Halo Reach only has a development cycle of around 3 years, as well most other big games like the original Uncharted/Gears, etc.. that had their own original engines built for them while having around 2-3 years of development. There has only been a few games this generation to have dev cycles that go beyond 4 years, even though many games have had their own engines made for them.

Killzone 2 took less time, and killzone 2 has a story, and GT5 is a racing game, so spin it as much as you want, but 5 years is a ridiculous time.

Isnt 5 yeas a really long time? Neverwinter Nights took 5 years and even then came with a massive adventure, a high developed single player and best of all a development kit that was robust enough to actually recreate most of the proffesionally made adventure in. Despite that the development time was still considered a long time. The 80/20 rule can work against you....

Most probably updated Halo 3 engine

GT5 engine were almost done in 2007, now they are only adding damage, new physics and other stuff (temporal aa for example).

No they dont have to model 1000 cars...just few hundrets then add some different sticks on it or bumper :P And i dont think they made new engine from scratch. First they made GT HD which was GT4 engine in HD res. Later they did Prologue which imnproved graphics alot (aspecially cars)...but its still highly modified engine used in GT:HD...you can see that after loading track located in Alps which looks nearly indentical in both games. Theyre just modifying old engine all the time (same ting that T10 is doing with Forzas engine). What really take them so much time is adding new features...they allready said they had game ready. But after new Forza arrived people were unhappy about only small part of cars having cockpits/damages. PD wants to win their fight with T10 so they decided to add damage to all cars...and thats not a thing you can do within month..

Halo Reach looks mediocre. They created a mediocre new engine. Physics are still the same as Halo3 too. No destructible environments or something like that I assume?

GT5 is going to be a giant graphical leap, brand new and vastly improved physics engine and added damage.

pretty much what i was gonna say, the fact that op mentioned gt5p as a "game" made by pd is the funnyest thing i have heard in a while. everyone knows that all prologue games are basically a betta version of the actual real game.(or a large demo if you will)

Another thing to consider could be content. There will be about 1000 cars available in GT 5. Forza 2 had 349 (including downloadable content) and Forza 3 has 454 (including the 10 from next month's car packs). Even assuming Turn 10 remodelled every car from Forza 2 and ignoring that very few of the Forza 2 cars had fully modelled cockpits, PD will have produced about 20% more cars in a few more months time (less than 10% more time). Tracks are a bit more complicated. Forza 2 had 12 locations all of which returned in Forza 3's 21 locations versus the vague, "more than 20" due in GT 5. This, of course, is also ignoring PD's other 2 projects (Tourist Trophy and GT PSP). So clearly PD creates more content than Turn 10, but quality comparisons will have to wait a few more months.

I dont buy this "new engine" crap one bit. In my eyes if they made a new engine they would have addressed some of the flaws with earlier GT's. I dont see any skid marks left by cars, how do you make a driving "sim" and leave that out? PD is still using the same generic tire squeal noises from all the other GT games and DUMBASS AI WTF!!!

Forza 3 on the other hand, is made from Forza 2 engine, so the engine is already there and ready for action.

another fact, GT5 wasnt the only thing PD were working on. they also made...

GTHD
GT5P
GTPSP
New online system for GT5

Revolution316

1. Then where did Forza 2 come from? I guess that code came from thin air and magically appeared on a disk.

2. All of those games I could have done without and the new onlines system should be included in the development of GT 5

The fact is they are slow devs. The fact is that 2 Forza games have released this generation and the only thing Poly has to show for their efforts are a bunch of screenshots, Youtube vids and the Prologue demo.

You can sugarcoat it all you want but the world is moving on. Aside from Forza, there are other great racing franchises out there. The landscape is drastically different than it was when the last GT game came out.

yeah heres some morefun facts:

GTHD couldnt have taken more then 2 days to make
GT5P was a demo of GT5
GT PSPis a handheld game
Turn10 released Forza, Forza 2 and Forza 3within 5 years while it has been almost 5 years since GT4 was released and GT5 still isnt out.
Recently released GT5 demo was suppose to give you a taste of what to expect from the final game yet some disapointed fanboys claim that the graphics were downgraded because the focus of the demo is the phsyics...now the question is, why exactly would PD downgrade the visuals in demo when the demo is suppose to give you a "taste" of what to expect from final game
