GT5 was announced in 2006, Wouldn't that put dev time at 4 years?

Why is private lobbies listed as a feature for GT5, private lobbies arent new or special. (hint: they're in Forza)

Snugenz
I thought private lobbies were taken out of Forza 3, because I remember a lot of complaints about that.

The big difference between these two games is the fact Forza 3 was turned out in 2 years, and ended up being a grossly better game than its predecessor in all regards. GT5 has taken nearly 6 years to make, so I would hope that all these extra features would make it into the final product... because if all they spent that time on was matching Forza, they didn't need to waste 4 years.

I personally don't think development team size makes much of a difference. It all depends on the skill of the team itself. I would posit that less time to make a quality product is more noteworthy than lots of time to make a similar quality product (if only marginally better in most areas).

Jesus_on_fire

The Last Guardian was formally announced in 2009, but Fumito Ueda said he was working on the game since right after they finished Shadow of the Colossus (which came out late 2005). So a game "announcement" doesn't in any regard correlate to development time.

Was Forza 3 created in a vacuum, or perhaps, perhaps, did the development of Forza 2, building an engine, making models/assets, contribute to the development of Forza 3?

Also how does development team size not make a difference at all to how quickly a product can be made. :/

I'm pretty sure that the game was delayed so long because of the 3D integration.

Heck yeah, Forza 3 is a high quality product made in just 2 years with some great features. Turn 10 did some work on that. Looking at the sheer amount of features and quality of GT5, do you think any company could have done it in less time? 5 years time, along with developing other titles in the process.

You've been cynical and condescending of Gran Turismo this entire gen. That's all gravy, its your thing :). But now that we have official news of what the heck Polyphony has been up to all these years, what do you think of the product they are ready to ship in Nov. 2010? I think it's the bizness :D!

As a hardcore racing fan, are you interested in these features? Interested in the game at all?

SCE president Shuhei Yoshida said there will be a "track creator" and you will be able to share them online. He better not be lying :|. This is a HUGE feature for a game of this magnitude.

3 Forza's in 1 gen? If MS wants that franchise to be long running they'd better give it a break for a while :?

my fact sheet.

online pedegree forza series: forza 1, forza 2, forza 3.

online pedegree gt series: gt prologue.

if that is not enough to tell you what the dif between these two series will be like then i don't know what else to tell you.

although if you are not into online then you should be golden with gt5

AncientDozer
Unfortunately for you, GT5 online will be much superior. Each player has own profile, where you can check the progress in the game, cars, time trials and see what theyre doing. You can also spectate their race. Also, 16 players in each race, compared to 8. Solid lobbies, and lots of stuff, as said in OT.

Well, it better be considering this was suppose to be a launch title. It has been four years so far, and we're approaching year five. For a racing game.

No, For THE racing game.

Yes. I mentioned all the different resolutions because the Anti Aliasing changes for each resolution But yeah, 3D is only available in 720p, but I'm not 100% sure if it has 2xAA or no AA when in 3D mode.

Yeah, it reminds me of an Activision series to be honest. First 2 where great imo, but behond that honestly I think the gap between 2 and 3 was minimal.

Personally I much preferred 3 - I think it improved almost every aspect of 2 - and added lots of good features. But a Forza every 2 years could be too much - although I can see it being another quality title - Turn 10 are brilliant developers. I would LOVE another PGR though....

Read: "quality product" not just "product"

That wasn't the point of what I wrote - I know how long Forza 2 took to make. The point was that it's somewhat disingenuous to imply that Forza 3, as a "quality product," was the product of solely two years of work by Turn 10.

I read "quality product" I still don't see how development team size doesn't make a difference at all to how quickly a "quality product" can be made.

Errm... a larger team means more people can work on improving the game. It's basic logic. Yes, more people doesn't guarantee improvement/quality BUT common sense says more people can lead to better production.

No one mentions it because people dont know about it... either that.. or it's because "A single fact can ruin an argument" ;)

Nice idea comparing using fact sheets. Problem is because there's no constraints or guidelines you can list almost any fact to make one game sound better than the other game.

The employee list is rather slanted. The interview with Dan G. says 300 employees, but that includes people outside the company, including translation and localization staff, while PD's list only includes their staff.

Basically accurate otherwise, now if they could just release the damn game :x

I bought my Driving Force GT for 50 bucks refurb. It works flawlessly, and I use it for all my PC sims as well. The DFGT is probably as cheap as you'll get while still having a "quality" wheel. Though I wish I had a clutch =/

The Turn 10 figures include all companies they outsourced work to. I know PD has 110, and an additional "small" studio thats been working on the netcode. Other than that PD has done things themselves. If I knew the figure for the "small" company, I'd include it.

why do people still choose to bash GT5 over it's release date? 5yrs and heres the list of features Night/Day transition Stunt Arenas 32 player online lobbies 16 player online races Track (not map) Editor Spectator mode Weather 200 PS4 cars and 800 standard cars Nascar license WRC license Super GT license Rolling and damage (eerily real weight) 1st person walkabout photo mode YouTube uploading 1080p PS Eye headtracking Motion controls HDMI 1.4 Stereoscopic 3D @ 60fps Split-screen Best graphics in any driving game (lighting, physics driven smoke, attention to detail..etc) Real life tracks recreated in maddening quality (up to 2 year dev times) 20+ locations with 70+ variations PSP Connectivity Go karts to Rally to classics to sport to Drag car, ordinary cars...etc etc etc Animated drivers, handling and gear shifts, pit crews, tire changes etc Custom soundtrack Text and Voice chat Narrative involvement by popular drivers and Top Gear crew Top Gear Test Track Open free-form Track Days GT Life (career mode, this time with earth map and real time clock) & Arcade mode Profile pages In-game (bulletin-board) message boards Gran Turismo Video store (Top Gear Show has 350+ million viewers) honestly the devs are hard at work busting there ass to make the best racing sim ever for this gen and automotive companies don't like damage to their cars but thats still in isn't it? i respect what forza is doung but fact is and remains it cant beat GT as racing sim GT started a racing sim revolution during the days people preferd arcade racers. if it wasn't for GTs sells and popularity i doubt racing sims would be noticed and the time takin to make GT5 was put to good use detail by detail every car feels better then forza's cars and they gave rollover added

Fact: Fortza motorsports is the greatest ice track racing game ever created.

Fact: GT5 is the greatest racing game that isn't out.

But really, the games cant be compared. Most of GT5 hasn't even been shown.

My fact sheet

Forza has outscored GT series since time began.

Forza has consistently improved while GT series seems stuck in nuetral improving Bullshots and adding 350 Minivans, Go Carts, Nascar and stuff you will NEVER use.

case in point..Electronic Arts walked AWAY from the Nascar Liscence.

ELECTRONIC ARTS!!! what does that say about Nascars perceived value if the greediest publisher in gaming history took a pass?

GT5 will need 10's or better to end this argument. it will need to be the end all be all of racing sims and it will be brutally compaired to Forza 3.

you wont be able to fool the gaming Press and media again with '' graphics '' like you did in 2009 with Uncharted 2.

GT5 has to deliver in all areas to even continue being a contender in this fight.

im rooting for you Polyphony Digital.

but thats all......

GT5 could be amazing although they keep adding and adding and tbh I know from experince once you add lots of stuff to the game like different vehicles etc you dont always get the right phyics, past GT games havnt always got it right, Dirt2 was laughable for their trucks etc.

Hopefully its awesome because it wont dent Forzas success :)

That's not a license they have. They only have the stock car model in which you can throw decals on.

[QUOTE="chris_yz80"][QUOTE="zero_snake99"] you forgot v8 supercars for forzazero_snake99
That's not a license they have. They only have the stock car model in which you can throw decals on.

Not as maticulous a Feature Sheet like yours but I agree (somewhat) with some of his points. I'll clean his up as I see it:

  • Forza's last 3 games were AAA and GT's were not
  • Forza has consistently improved, garnering consistant AAA reviews. GT5 has delayed it's release by adding potentially (we shall see...) uninteresting additional racing modes like Go Carts, NASCAR and WRC thatmay not be quite as polished as it's main racing modes - NASCAR with 16 cars? WRC better have good damage simulation.
  • Electronic Arts dropped the NASCAR license. Most likely because the NASCAR games didn't sell well.
  • Why add NASCAR to a GT game? Seriously?
  • GT5 will need 10's or better to end this argument.
  • GT5 better drive pretty as well as look pretty.
  • I'm rooting for you Polyphony Digital. I wouldn't want the pressure.

At this point, GT5 has lost much of its cache to FM3.

It really needs to show us the they have a good grasp of online and community, not to mention its accessibility.

GT5 could be amazing although they keep adding and adding and tbh I know from experince once you add lots of stuff to the game like different vehicles etc you dont always get the right phyics, past GT games havnt always got it right, Dirt2 was laughable for their trucks etc.

I don't think DiRT was meant to be a full-on simulation. GRID certainly isn't. Both are still some of my favorite racing games though.

Not as maticulous a Feature Sheet like yours but I agree (somewhat) with some of his points. I'll clean his up as I see it:

  • Forza's last 3 games were AAA and GT's were not Is it fact that they scored AAA? Yes, are the scores based on facts? NO. Opinion
Uninteresting game modes? Opinion
  • Electronic Arts dropped the NASCAR license. Most likely because the NASCAR games didn't sell well. Speculation.
  • Why add NASCAR to a GT game? Seriously? Question?
  • GT5 will need 10's or better to end this argument.Reviews are based on opinions.
  • GT5 better drive pretty as well as look pretty. Opinion
  • I'm rooting for you Polyphony Digital. I wouldn't want the pressure. Yet again no comparable facts here.

Let me fix this for you since this is a "fact" sheet. I hate to sound mean but seriously, I make a fact thread to compare FACTS not opinions, speculation or ask questions about why they added a feature.

IF you want to ask why PD added NASCAR, look into the FACTS that NASCAR is the LARGEST motorsport in the United States.

These simple things can be avoided just by doing that.
