Okay some people think this is in Libirty city some people say it's the NYC. Me Personaly i think it would be damn sad if Rockstar used Libirty city because librity city is one fourth of the size of San Andras yeah 1/4. If they make this map i want San andras to be 1 fourth of the size GTA IV is.
Does it matter? if so; why? It could be liberty city but be bigger; theres nothing stopping them from doing that. Ultimately location seems to have very little to do with the game....
I think the main character is Middle Eastern because of his cool accent. I also think that the game will not only take place in Liberty City but other venues from the popular series such as San Andreas and Vice City - shoot, the game might even go over into Europe and South East Asia.

The main character is CLEARLY russian, or from the baltic countries. I never played GTA 3, so I don;t know Liberty City...but judging by the Empire State building, statue of liberty, and times square, I would have to say its NYC.
Have you guys travelled much? THE MAIN CHARACTER IS RUSSIAN, just listen to the accent. All in all a really great trailer. I hope those visuals can be achieved in game, for some reason im doubtful.

His accent sounds Slavic, not Middle Eastern, meaning he is probaly from Eastern Europe.

No it's not. The only thing that had a refrance to liberty city was the boat that said "liberty city" and seeing that the statue of liberty, timesquare and other famous NEW YORK locations were there, chances are that the boat came FROM Liberty City into NYC.

Liberty City is NYC, just like Vice City is Miami, Los Santos is Los Angeles etc.
In any case, it's called Liberty City in GTAIV. The word "Liberty" is shown quite a few times in the trailer. The statue of Liberty tells us that they're revamping the whole city which is exciting.Â

yeah no doubt its NYC which is cool i was hoping it was because there are no other cities in the US that are cool for crime i mean the only place that i can think of would be Washington DC and GTA DC just dosent seem cool
I think its actually liberty City, I saw the word liberty 3 times: the boat liberty city, on a truck, and on some building (liberteen). Seems pretty certain

Just because they have "real" landmarks in the game, doesn't mean they have to call them by thier actual name, or call the city by its actual name. Its Fiction. gta 3 was a mockup of nyc...central park is in it....and a poorly done timesquare..STAUNTON ISLAND = STATEN ISLAND but it was really manhattan....shoreside vale was new jersey around the fortlee area..it was just a really bad version of nyc...they prollly figured since the did such a good job on making vice city more like miami and san andreas more like vegas/los angeles that they should redo liberty city and this time make it look a lot more like nyc....and thats what they are doing...
