Would GTA be a better game in first person view? Someone made a mod so you can at least try it, and its surprisingly pretty awesome.

Polish up the gunplay and I would definitely spend most of my time in that view.

Depends on your taste. But you do have a lot less awareness and control over your character due to the more realistic nature of first person viewpoints. You can no longer see all around you at one time, you can only see directly where you are pointing.

It should implement First Person view like Gears 3, which we can be accessed at any time while staying as a third person game like its always been.

 Love the Burger Shot employee's way of greeting you to the restaurant :P

I wouldn't like it in 1st person, idk just wouldn't seem to work for me. I'd rather have the 3rd person and see more of what's happening around me, rather than only what's in front of me. I think the game would just play awkward, still could be a camera option in the next one :D

Not too sure.

I have thought about that before.

Think I'll stick 3rd person but a option to have first person would be nice.

Walking down the street looked good, pretty good mod overall, wasn't as bad as I expected.

Exactly, its fairly polished. Looking down you see Nico's body kind of like Mirrors Edge. The gunplay is the only semi-wonky part, which oddly enough is more realistic - FPS games are unrealistic with their static arms lol.

Regardless, with a static arm and gun held out it would be awesome, very immersive.

How would taking cover in gunfights work in first person view, I mean without completely blinding yourself? There's a lot of stuff going on at once in a GTA 'situation', so it's essential to have a fair view over your enemies whereabouts, nearby vehicles and escape routes and so on.

3rd person hybrid when going into cover like Rainbow Six Vegas.

Now that I've seen that, is there a reason why rockstar didn't make that view optional? Is way more immersive.

that'd be quite an evolution, but I'd rather see GTA revisit its roots with the top-down style gameplay (and it not being on handhelds)

Wow, I might actually play GTA games if they were designed with a first person perspective.

I prefer open world games with a third person camera, I didn't really like the first person view of Oblivion.

Edit: I will admit however it makes the game a lot more atmospheric. It feels like you're walking down the streets of liberty city, very impressive. On a whole I'd prefer to play the game from a 3rd person perspective but it'd be great to have it as an option, for when you just want to admire the city it'd be great. For actual missions I don't think it'd be as good, however.

Looks a lot better than I was expecting.

The main issue I saw was that, while the graphics look good from a distance 3rd person persective, they look significantly worse than most FPSs when seen up-close.

Someone has done this for Just Cause 2 also.

But dayum this is so much better :P This could almost pass for a straight up FPS! All the animations are there, this looks really cool.

While I like my GTAs third person, that looked incredibly immersive and brings up an interesting question - why hasn't there been more open world first person games this gen? I think we've only had Far Cry 2 (which would have been incredible if a few minor tweaks had been made), right? I'd love to have a GTA, JC2 or RDR style game in first person and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It would be incredibly immersive and likely a huge hit. I was just watching some videos of Just Cause 2's first person mod, if that game had released in first person it would probably be one of the more talked about titles to hit this gen rather than a fun time killer that people rarely acknowledge. Parachuting and reeling around above buildings just looks insane. Here's hoping Far Cry 3 gets a release date soon, I'm kind of itching to play something akin to this now.

I think i would still prefer the third person view but it would be cool to have that option in the next GTA.

I would think that a first person perspective would just further accentuate the bad controls.

I actually played through the game using that mod, it's just unbelievably immersive.

The mod works really well for this game and it actually feels more natural than most FPS out there as you actually feel like you have a body, unlike most games where you feel like a floating camera. It really gives you a nice Mirror's Edge feeling when you're running and jumping across rooftops and climbing over obstacles, and driving the cars in that view is really nice.

And suprisingly the cover mechanics still work really well in that view, sure you can't see over the things you're covering behind, but that's really cheap anyway, so I much prefer it this way. :D

FPS mode in GTA is novelty at best. It's just not the same using it as a real substitution.
