Without question, Grand Theft Auto IV is the best game since Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

As I expected. I knew it'd get a 10 after that one Three Red Lights podcast, where Hilary Goldstein as going crazy about the game. He started joking about how they gave Jade Empire a 9.9 and that was controversial, and such. Seemed pretty clear it was destined for a 10.
It's funny how so many people after the that first 10/10 review came out from OXM, were trying to say they were biased, and that people should wait for the IGN review and such.
Well....
"For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, "

PS3 doesn't have Live though so ....
So the Playstation 3 releases a year later and 18 months later it finally gets a game that graphically edges out the Xbox 360. A game that is a lost timed exclusive to the Playstation format.
Keep up the great work Sony.

Both versions got a 10 and it sounds more like a spin by you than a knock by IGN as far as the graphics go. Not really surprised. We are in SW after all.

you forgot something........ they say there is a slight visual edge..... but that statement about pop in stands out..... it must be a big deal....
Just for some perspective, this is IGN's first 10 in 9 years, and they gave it a 10 in EVERY SINGLE CATEGORY:
10 Presentation
The story is Oscar quality. The use of the phone as a gaming portal is genius. There's really nothing more that could be asked for from GTA IV.
10 Graphics
The level of detail is astounding. Liberty City feels alive and lived in. While there are some technical issues, the artistic merits push the score to the max. A true marvel.
10 Sound
The dialogue makes the story. Without the excellent writing and the stellar voice acting, the story would fail. And the soundtrack kills -- more than 200 songs and almost all are great choices.
10 Gameplay
The cover and targeting system work great. Blind firing with an RPG is a thing of beauty. Everything works in harmony and not a single one of the missions is bad. The most fun I've had in years.
10 Lasting Appeal
The story will take anywhere from 25-45 hours to complete, depending on your skill level and attention span. There's plenty more to do once you finish the story, such as excellent multiplayer.
10
Masterful OVERALL
Legendary game confirmed.
I was telling you guys about the graphics, btw. The game's ****ing fantastic-looking.
Cows, you've been waiting since E3 2005 for a moment like this. This one's for you...

A "10" is not a score we give out very often. In fact, the last time we gave a 10 to a console game was Soul Calibur in 1999. A 10 doesn't mean a game is perfect -- it means a game is pushing boundaries, expanding a genre, and doing many things to a level so far above and beyond its competitors that they overshadows any flaws. Certainly, GTA IV has some issues, the most noticeable being the occasional flaw in the cover system, but there are many more pieces of GTA IV that are better than anything I've seen from a game in the past decade. We don't give 10s often -- just to games that merit the score.
I never really thought that this game would be this good. Nevertheless, now, I'm forced to purchase it! :)Fondness
dude, me too. I was never a fan but I mean a 10? I don't think I have a choice now. I didn't read the review, but I'm guessing the online elements were well accepted. ;)

i dont understand why you have the need to do something like that. cant everyone enjoy that many people can enjoy this game.

ps3 version for me.. these are important aspects for me.
I got the game last night, and obviously I can't prove it to you aside from going online with my gamertag - but microsoft is banning people if they go online prior to release, so take my word for it if you want...
After playing GTA1 on the PC up until GTA3:SA... GTA4 is easily the best of the series. There are like... no issues with the game whatso ever, its perfect.

live wont give your game look better :PThat, and to some Live might be a disadvantage. One of my friends is on the border between PS3/360. He loved Halo, but he doesn't want to pay for LIVE :|

The car handling is excellent, right? Because I'm pretty sure it is, but most have been whining because nobody in the gameplay leaks can drive. There's obviously a learning curve, which is great, since that means it actually takes skill to drive now.

Very good observation, the cars are VERY much harder to drive. If you simply keep on the accelerator, and try to turn, you will take a very wide turn and probably crash into the incoming lane, or even worse, a building. It's like a real car, where you have to break before taking turns, instead of expecting a car going at 40-60mph to make a 90 degree turn.
Alternately, you can use the hand break, which I'm sure must be mastered at some point. One thing to note is though, the cars very pretty significantly in performance, so I imagine the cars get easier to drive as you go further in the game.

That is exactly what I both hoped and expected. It's amazing to me how many people still think they can do e-brake turns around a corner while going at 120 MPH when the vehicles now are far more physics-based and based in reality. Some people don't like evolution, I guess.
It's going to be an amazing experience for me, literally, just to go around trying different cars to see how they run. Just knowing I can look down any of the many, many streets in the game, spot several different types of vehicles, be able to break into any one of them that I want, and know they'll all drive differently from each other is just incredible to me.
That's almost like a full game just by itself.
