I am in no way trying to start any conspiaracy im actually using sound logic and here is my thinking.. Even though the reviewers might think MGS4 easily deserves a 10 its possible that they wont give it a 10 out of fear of people not considering them reliable now simply because a lot of gamers might consider gamespot to be "soft" if they gave 2 of the biggest games this year both a 10, so in order for gamespot to keep that unbias reliable reviews stigma they might very well give MGS4 a 9.5 even though it might clearly deserve a 10 because lets face it, you know it and i know it that if MGS4 got a 10, even if it might very well deserve it.. All the gamers on here would accuse gamespot of going soft and say that now 10s dont have any special meaning because they are given out so often.. sad reallySnakeSolid84
I agree with what you said but if Gamepsot thinks even half of the people on this site consider them "reliable" or "unbias" in their reviews then their wrong. That Gamespot-Gate fiasco will leave a stain for a while.

exactly.. I mean i honestly think its a shame that GTA IV and MGS4 releases are so close together because of all the gaming sites in general gave 2 games 10s within a 2 month period then a lot of gamers would no longer consider a "10" the holy grail rating for games.. so even though MGS4 technically will be a 10 according to most reviewers they know that they cant actually score it that way and will give it a 9.5 most likely.. I see IGN for example giving it a 9.8

No freaking way.. Im not a gambling man whatsoever but if i could, I would bet any of my prized possesions that this game will not get below AAA here, infact 9.0 is a very low estimate for this game
8.5 material.Neoguru25
no way.. Look at bioshock, that was just a 14 hour game with no multiplayer whatsoever and it got a 9.0 here and bioshock is nowhere near in the same league as MGS4.. MGS4 will pick up a 9.5 here very very easily

That depends on your taste. I don't like stealth that much so for me Bioshock was much better than Metal Gear Solid 2 or 3.

Your right, Bioshock is not in the same league as MGS. Bioshock should have been a 7.0. MGS4 should get an 8.5.

I think this logic is kind of dumb. It assumes that MGS4 is destined for a 10 in the first place.
Based on its series track record, GTAIV was destined for a 10. MGS has a shakier track record.
MGS4 will probably get in the 9.0-9.5 region.

I'm predicting an 8.5 as well. MGS is no where near the caliber of the GTA series. Why is everyone so surprised that GTA4 will probably score higher than MGS4?
I wouldn't call it 'Caliber', so much as I would call it 'Casual'.I believe the entire MGS series to be more unique and rewarding than the GTA series.I'd say basically someone who plays GTA is looking to pick up and have some brainless fun going around shooting and free roaming in a sandbox type enviorment. But MGS to be allot more engaging and direct in terms of gameplay and presentation.
But knowing how gamespot is now, their ratings reflect more of a casualistic rating than a gamings worth rating. It seems whatever rating games recieve on the site reflect how well they do in the sales world, going back to my first point, gamespot rates casualistic, rather than quality.Halo 3 could've just been Halo 2 with graphical upgrades minus new levels and content and just have a subpar boring sp like Halo 2.The game still would've gotten the same rating it did on here...
So I predict MGS4 will get a 9.5, as the franchise is far to intact, hyped, and similar to it's previous predecessor *As, more in tune with the MGS1+2 era hype and media attention*, so it won't get anything less than a 9...
But that's just my insight on the matter...
I wanna say MGS will get a 8.5 it's always been an 8 and above series but this is Kojima's masterpiece this is his baby, he has put blood sweat and tears into this project, so I'm hoping it gets the 9 and above
the only problem is when hideo releases the substance's they have both gotten 9.0's except for MGS2 which got a 9.6 i don't know now im just rambling

I hate the excuse that GTA scores better because it is casual. That's not true. GTA scores better because its gameplay can stand on its own without the story. It is much more gameplay-oriented, the player is in the driver seat.
MGS would fall apart without its story. The gameplay can be downright diluted with the storytelling elements at times. The player is in the passenger seat.
Passenger seat .vs. driver seat. There is a difference and GTA benefits from this difference.

In all honesty, i believe that GTA game survive because of their casual status. In this day and age, only casual games are ever going to get a 10. Ninja Gaiden will never get a 10, MGS4 will never get a ten. If your grandma cant play it, its not worthy of a ten. Gaming has become too mainstream. So unless the controls and gamplay are dumbed down (like Oblivion) and the game is one of those "just jump in and start playing!" like GTA and the random killing sprees u can do, it wont get a 10. I mean do u think they would ever give SotC a ten? heck, even Ocarina of Time wouldnt get a 10 by todays standards because Joey Noob thought the puzzles were too hard :(

Have you ever even read a GTA review?
It's as if you can't understand why your precious MGS games are not scoring as well and you're simply making up reasons why GTA games are scoring so high.
Seriously, man: read a GTA review and study the reasons they give. They are alot different than all that stuff you just made up. You're bordering on a strawman argument with all this stuff.
MGS4 would've never received a 10. GTA deserves it.BioShockOwnzIn your opinon. Definitely not in mine.
if GS doesnt give MGS4 a 10 but it gave GTA4 a 10, that will officially mean that this site has no credibility. 0. none. GTA4 was a great game, dont get me wrong, but not a 10. not even close.PSBox3SixWi
You should play MGS4 first before you start making statements like this.

dude...I said thats what i believe is happening...chillout....you act like Rockstar saved your mother or sumthing :? And yes, I have read the review as did thousands of other people and yes i have the game and while i think its great i definitely believe that its a step back from San Andreas. The game seems about 10x easier and it feels really dumbed down. Look at the cop evasion...what a joke.

Considering The first GTA and GTA2 were mediocre I doubt it.
Spin offs aside lets look at the scores.
Metal Gear Solid: 8.5
Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty: 9.6
Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater: 8.7
Average: About 8.9
GTA: 8.0
GTA2: 6.8
GTAIII: 9.6
GTA IV: 10
Average: 8.6
Look at that. They are about the same. Come on now and no i'm not going to factor in San Andreas, Vice City, or the PSP games because they were spin-offs. As a series MGS is just as good as GTA except GTA has higher casual appeal so it would probably sell more then GTA but thats about it. Considering the lowest score a main GTA game has gotten is a 8.5 I find it funny that you think MGS4 will score a 8.5 even after seeing all these sites hyping it up (Game Trailers doing their little history of MGS thing).

It seems like the general consensus is that it's a 9.5-10 game. The whiners on the internet forums are the minority. They're the one's with the loudest voices. Somehow, I wish they could be silenced.

This is borderline propoganda. Vice City and San Andreas were not spin-off's. They were full games in the series. They are just not part of the numerical sequence.
To avoid being seen as disingenious, you have to factor in VC and SA. So you should redo your average.
And since you know full well that it's the 3D GTA's that are in competition with MGS, your post is disingenious again.
MGS4 will score AAA here..count on it. Sig it i don't care.

I seriously think people should reconsider when they say that MGS is not in the same league as GTA; using Metacritic scores, I would think otherwise.
Metal Gear Solid 94
Metal Gear Solid 2 96
Metal Gear Solid 3 94
Grand Theft Auto III 97
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 94
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas 95
Grand Theft Auto IV 98
They are both great franchises that one shouldn't put over each other. If MGS4 does deserve a 10, then it should get a 10, if not then, that's how the cookie crumbles.

I clearly said main games and GTA and GTA 2 are still part of the series. Vice City and San Andreas are spin-offs from GTA3. Why you think Vice City and San Andreas weren't called GTA 4 and GTA 5? All the Spin-offs in the series didn't get a number. Look at all the games in the series that didn't: London 1969, Vice City, San Andreas. All Spin-offs with one being a expansion on the PC version of the first GTA.

You should lose credibility for this hearsay evidence you're bringing forth.

There's no reason why Vice City and San Andreas can't be factored in. You know that full well, yet you still spread this propoganda.
VC and SA were not expansions. They were in different settings with different storylines. That is not an expansion.
They are seperate games. They are not part of the numerical sequence, but still part of the Grand Theft Auto series by Rockstar.
It's kind of silly to act like Vice City and San Andreas are merely spin-offs when San Andreas is three times the size of GTAIII.
For those who are saying that MGS 4 is a stealth game, you are half correct, you can play it run and gun or stealth.

Regardless of how good or bad it may be, it's a very hyped and well known game so therefor it will score big. I hope I'm wrong but I'm thinking that most if not all big name titles will score very well in this new age of business, and not just this site either. Please Log In to post.
