Not sure if it's the most overrated game of all time, but I think it's overrated.

I'd like to see what others think.

Edit: if you don't think it is the most overrated game of All-Time, then say what you think is.

Overrated, but not the most overrated of all time. It certainly has a lot of flaws.

It does have it's flaws, but honestly, I still couldn't give it less than 10. I think Halo 3 is a more worthy contender for M.O.V.G.A.T! (Most Overrated Video Game of All Time)

Well I had more fun with Halo 3 than GTA IV. But I think they are both overrated.

GTA IV didn't have enough variety in missions.

On the contrary, i have found myself bored of gaming recently, that was untill GTA came out. I had the previous GTA games and never really understood why they were to praised, but GTA IV is one of the finest gaming experiences i have ever had. I have ADD and find it hard to play a game for a long time and often give up after a matter of hours, but GTA kept me comming back. That game is up there with Zelda: OOT for me!

In reality, GTAIV is underrated by the simpletons who can't wrap their heads around the notion that 10 =/= perfect, and that a 10/10 game can still have flaws.

Everytime someone whines about the game, they point out a couple of what they feel are basic flaws, and then go on to cry about the 10 scores as if they just somehow proved it's not a 10. Waaaah, I don't like the way Niko runs, the game's obviously not a 10. Waaaah, the cars are governed by actual physics now, it's not a 10. Waaah, you can't enter every building, it's not a 10. Waaaah, there are no parachutes and tanks, it's not a 10. It's really sad stuff.

In fact, that's how you know the game is so good: when everybody keeps bringing up these truly dumbass criticisms for it. They have to reach so far. I don't think I've heard legitimate criticism for the game, as in the type that keeps it from a 10 score. There are small annoyances, to be sure, but they're completely overshadowed by the good. That's why it's getting 10s everywhere. It's amazing how many people can't seem to grasp this.

Not all time, but overrated yes. 9.5/10 max for me.

I enjoyed it, but the the end of the game did feel rushed. GTA started slow, ended quick. THPS3 is the most overrated of all time of course.

I don't think anyone will say its a bad game, but 10s, idk about that.

Except that the game has an "average"(at best) multiplayer, it has flaws, glitches and doesn't do alot to innovate since GTA:SA.

Get real, that 10/10 score is purely on hype and momentum.

That is why people are whining.

The game is good, but overrated.

Its still the same old game, new coat of pain and some new features.

No, it all depended on where I was and who was closer to me at the time. But that bank robbery mission was awesome. One of the funnest ones in the series.

10 =/= Perfect, but rather Prime. In that sense, GTA IV deserves the score. The game isn't without its faults (what game is?), but it definately pushes the genre in every direction. If it doesn't deserve a 10, I don't know what does.

10 doesn't mean perfect on alot of sites though, it means that the game could not be improved upon in any meaningful way. Which GTA4 definitely could not have been improved upon.

There are plenty of reasons it didn't deserve a 10. I understand 10 does not equal perfect, it means "the best the game could be at the time of release." I'm doubting you've beaten it, must people haven't, but I myself have and it has a very weak story (especially halfway through). Static characters like Niko are given realistic (and simple) motives and goals, which is fine, but those motives and goals are never really reached (and when they are you're wondering why it took so long) without going through countless hours of repetitive missions and poor characters. The mission structure is incredibly repetitive. Fetch missions comprise more than 65% of the game (more, if you count side missions). Of course this just the core gameplay, let alone the technical flaws. Ever tried swimming to a moving boat? Niko will float miraculously to it at over 30mph with no animation and climb onto the boat, only to fall off and into the water. I've already fallen through the ground (due to helicopter crashing) and gotten stuck in some gray world 3 times, having to reload my game. Of course there are graphical glitches as well, but those are mostly minor (other than the ones where Niko suddenly teleports 10 feet forward and steps up an invisible ledge, can happen when pulling yourself out of the water).

Quirky driving/flying physics (when going 10mph, braking should not leave a 15ft skid, and hitting a curb should not cause my car to do a backflip), along with poor AI (have you seen the people in this game drive? Have you ever blown your horn only to watch civilians dive into your car and your wanted level rise?) really help dull the experience.

Should I be judging this on the series of the game itself? I'm judging by the game itself, seeing as I've never gotten into the series. It has a better story than it's predecessors though, by far.

It has a better story than it's predecessors though, by far.

lol

Which version did you play? I've beaten it and never experienced any of that.

I would give GTAIV a score of zero right now. I'm doing the Three Leaf Clover mission, and my partners are standing there like brain dead retards, not helping me out at all. Nice A.I. rockstar. I have to take on the entire city of cops on by myself...

It's not wrong if you view it as all thumbs up however even then when you have seperate criteria for graphics sound etc.. being rated, handing out a 10 is still impossible. If you want to rate a game 10/10 you have to be very subjective, i mean that what reviews are but the element of bias in rating something 10 is too far for professional reviewers.

I enjoyed the bank mission as well, though after that, money became a mute point in the game..... IMO ;)

I liked GTA IV alot at first, but now it seems that every other mission is "chase him and dont let him get away"! I want of the stuff like when you had to meet Dimitri and he double Crsses you and you wind up in a big shoot out and have to escapr the police!!! Or how about more hits on people! Also, for such an interactive game, there sure are alot of doors that cant be opened!!

Most overrated of all time? I wouldnt go that far, but yes, I think a 10 was a little strong. Id give it about an 8.5!! Imo the most overrated game in recent memory was Perfect Dark Zero. That game got what like 9 here at GS and it deserved about a 7!!

I stopped reading after the first paragraph because what you said doesn't make sense. Surely something perfect wouldn't have flaws in because it's perfect.

It is a bit overrated, but there is worse offenders. FF7 is my vote for most overrated game.
