Why are you fanboys bragging that the 360 doesn't have a mandatory install? The reason it doesn't is because not every xbox comes with an HDD. Seeing that the PS3 does come with one, this is the reason that it is mandatory. The Xbox version will come with an optional install, for this very reason. It sickens me that MS PR mail said all those desperate things. Okay, thanks for your time ;)Freebird8877im fine with that........my console isnt a pc
No offense, but i'm fairly sure the PS3 has installs because the disc cannot be read as quickly as a DVD can. Thus, the install becomes necessary. If the 360 used Blu-Ray discs it'd have the same issue. It's not really anything to do with having a hard drive. Not every PS3 has the same HDD.
Besides; installs are no big deal at all. It's silly to try to claim ownage on it, and even worse to make threads defending something so insignificant.
How big is the install? I don't think installs are even that big of a deal, or something to claim ownage over.AAllxxjjnn
Thank you. People are making far too big a deal over this.

LOL the ownage is that bluray is suppose to be so much better? Can hold so much more?
The PS3 can't even make use of bluray because it is so damn slow..

Compartively, the read speed are not that much different. The standard read speed is higher than the DVD minimum readspeed while the DVD can potentially reach higher in order to prioritise files. It is possible in the same way to duplicate the same file in order to achieve the same affect of reaching these prioritised files :| But then that's alot of redundant data.

I know on system wars everybody thinks their a developer, but Capcom said simply and bluntly, that the PS3 version of DMC had an install because the disc wasn't read as quickly as a normy DVD. Simple as that. :

This is correct.
Poor Sony, so many bad decisions, will they ever recover?
Installs are a big deal to me. The only thing I want taking up space on my HD is game saves and DLC that I choose.
That is untill next next gen when M$ takes gaming to DL HD only, blu-ray will be long forgotten in the gaming world.

Honestly, some of you people need to read what you type BEFORE you press submit, and not when it is quoted back to you.............
The 360 is porbably going to have an optional install. Creating redundant data overcomes the read speeds. The PS3 HDD is easily and cheaply replacable. DD will not take over anytime soon. Also, the slow read speed number is misleading since you can't directly compare DVD read speed to Blu-Ray read speed, just like you can't compare CD read speeds to DVD read speads directly. Thirdly, fourthly and fifthly, if anyone made mistakes it was MS with not making a HDD standard, rushing console development leading to problems down the line like RROD, and for backing the wrong format (HD-DVD).
Next question?
This could possibly be the most pathetic attempt at damage control I have ever seen. No one can defend something as stupid as mandatory installations on consoles.UssjTrunks
Agreed.. seriously the fact it is "Mandatory" is pretty sad imo... PS3 has been getting bombarded with bad news over the last few days..
Also I love how Lazlow is now saying he "prefers" the 360 over the PS3 version.. Man it is bad when one of GTA's most famous characters is now giving the nod to the 360.

What do you want linked? The mandatory install or Lazlow giving the nod to the 360? LOL go to ANY GTA 4 site and read it for yourself.. He was on the radio today playing it and he point blank said he likes the 360 more then the PS3... Go look it up yourself..

He prefers the Xbox 360 for DLC. A fine reason to pick the Xbox 360. Some of us prefer the PS3 version. And the Xbox 360 will probably also have an optional installation. And the only reason lemms pick on installations is because Xbox 360 drives are too damn expensive to replace and the max size they come in is 120GB.[QUOTE="NitaraPwnzU"][QUOTE="donwoogie"][QUOTE="NitaraPwnzU"][QUOTE="UssjTrunks"]This could possibly be the most pathetic attempt at damage control I have ever seen. But it is not mandatory to install on the 360.. But the fact it is mandatory on a console is a joke.. Lets just all throw consoles out the windows and bring PC gaming back to what it was 5 to 10 years ago.,.
And as far as Lazlow.. Doesn't matter why he prefers it.. It is a nod to the 360 any way you spin it... :D
Um ya you can, a 2x blueray drive reads at 8MBps and a 12x DVD drive reads at 8.2 - 16.5MBps. This guys blog is good at explaining it (just make sure to read the comments) http://www.gamespot.com/pages/profile/show_blog_entry.php?topic_id=23916169&user=skektekAlso, the slow read speed number is misleading since you can't directly compare DVD read speed to Blu-Ray read speed, just like you can't compare CD read speeds to DVD read speads directly.

I hate the installs on the PS3. I only have a 40gig and with installs coming in at 2-4 gig a go I will run out of space soon enough.
Why should I have to upgrade a console HD? It's only supposed to be there for game saves and down loadable content.
I do not sell or trade in my games and tend to play them for a LONG time. When I start running out of space and have to delete I will get seriously annoyed. If I want a quick game I don't want to have to install it first! Installs are for the PC not a living room console!

If it was optional on both that is one thing.. The fact it is mandatory is sad.. Bluray doesn't need a hard drive remember? It holds 50 Gb of data remember.. PS3 games are gonna be huge remember? The 360 can't hold games that the PS3 can hold?Come on lets not spin it dude.. You know this is pretty damaging to the bluray concept... Regardless it does not affect me, I just think it is rediculous for a console to require installs inorder to play.
