Unlike Ubisoft, R* actually spend time on development of games. And unlike Bethesda, they actually use that time properly.
Far Cry 3 and 4 have a single-player reset outpost mode. I play them a lot more than GTA V once the main SP campaign is finished.
Have no idea how people can still play that game
By inserting the disc and playing?

no wai D:
It's because they're still the best open world developer out there. No other open world game has GTA's level of writing, characters, storytelling, visual design, social commentary, satire, game play design both in and out of vehicles (well from IV+episodes - on) and civil engineering. None even come close.

Yep...and then proceeding to just drive around and shoot at shit...for 3 years.
@frank_castle: ...among other things. Aside from rocking the online with my friends via mumble, I've been playing the story in a constant loop since release day. First on PS3, then on PC.

If anyone can make ubisoft good. its Rockstar. their games are so booring and dull. even thought ubisoft games are repetetive but atleast they manage to make a decent gameplay mechanics while rockstar failed at that.
I didn't like the game at all. Bought it twice too. The controls are so awful. Hard to believe the same company that made Max Payne III made the clunky combat in GTAV.

Yeah you'd think they would put that shooting in GTA 5. I'm also not a fan of the weighted walking and the seemingly high latency of the movement. And I also don't like how despite GTA 5 being a very rich open world game, the actual missions are as linear as they come. Other than taking any route you want to a destination, there isn't much room for player expression. You still have to do a certain thing a certain way. Something the Uncharted games got so much shit for, but those games didn't have a detailed open world to fall back on.
Overall though, I love GTA 5. It's just an enjoyable experience. There's a lot to do and get lost in, and I still see it as onbe of the biggest technical achievements in games.

It's probably not easy to implement perfect shooting mechanics into a massive open world game with so much going on as it was a linear TPS built on its shooting mechanics and bullet time. The driving and flying in GTA V is great imo.
@Heroldp813: GTA V did cost something in the neighborhood of $265 million dollars to make, features free semi-regular updates and has the pedigree of GTA.
What I'm trying to say is not all companies can do what Take 2 and Rockstar can do, ie. invest four years and over 1,000 people into creating a world, characters, story, online, sound etc.

I'm sorry, but what kind of sense does that make?

Most companies are too intent on annualizing their biggest franchises instead of supporting their game over a long period of time. Even when GTA V sales showed that building years of anticipation between sequels generates more sales than yearly releases do.

And I think that has do with the initial investment -- and the Rockstar initial investment goes all the way back to 2001 with GTA III. It can be tough to justify, financially, spending hundreds of millions of dollars and years on a game.
Look at all the GTA clones over the years with True Crime, Driv3r, Simpsons Hit & Run, Sleeping Dogs, Watch_Dogs and how all those together barely compare to a single GTA release.

Right? lol. I heard the third time you buy the game it turns into exactly what you want it to be, just one more to go StrongBlackVine.

Pretty much this. The singleplayer is as amazing as ever but last I checked (a few months ago) they still hadn't fixed the terrible online lobbies and broken match making. Adding a bunch of shirts and cars I can't afford every month is fine and all, but when the core game is so cumbersome I simply can't be bothered sticking around.

Yep, I personally can't stand the online play.
But if they came out with some single player DLC, I'd probably hop back in and at least check it out.
It's certainly not that good of a game, the missions are really lame, the game economy and property buying system sucks. I appreciate the large map size but resent the lack of activities in it. I like being able to play between three characters but hate not being allowed to share assets. As far as GTA games go I liked GTA IV better, would have preferred to see that be remade to harness 8th gen console power. Or heck, would have rather seen Red Dead Redemption over either for that matter.
Anyhow, most companies eat shit for milking their great titles. It's most certainly going to be Capcom's undoing. Hopefully Rockstar is doing this to buy time on a revolutionary new IP this gen. Otherwise I guess we have more next gen remakes to look forward to.

Honestly, I don't get it either. Gta V is my favorite game of all time and I only brought it once. Playing it with better graphics and few add ons online isn't going to make me be willing to spend more time on the game. I played both mode to death so I'm ready for GTA VI.
I'm not someone who likes to spend an eternity on the same game, everything ends up getting old eventually.

The single player was fun, but the multiplayer was only fun for maybe 10 hours? It's definitely not a long lasting game.
However, you can breathe new life into the game with mods. That helps a lot.
