Which will GTA4 help sell more of? Console wise not software sales.

PS3 or Xbox 360?

Do most causals associate GTA with the Playstation name?

Judging by how GTA lll, Vice City and San: Andreas sold on the Xbox, it'll sell more PS3s.

NightMorning

Yeah I think they do associate GTA more with Playstation

But who in their right mind is gonna walk into a store to buy GTA4 and look at both consoles and choose the one with the higher price sticker on it

Well apart from idiots

Think of the bigger picture though.

PS3 399$

Blu-ray Player

Wi-fi

Doesn't RROD or breakdown

Free online

360 349$

DVD player

no Wi-fi

RROD

Charged online.

Casuals maybe stupid but not that stupid.

GTA4 for a new comer to the next gen PS3 is prolly the best bang for there buck.

for 50$ more you are getting way more then the 360 is offering in terms of realiablity, Media functions 20 extra GB and not to mention a free Spiderman 3 Blu-ray pack in

Stupid casuals loves there Spiderman 3....

Fear will bite the casuals and ultimately convince the them to opt for a PS3 instead.

Yeah I get what your saying - but from my point of view I buy A console to play games - and play games only

Personally I dont care about the Blu-ray player (or for that matter the HD-DVD addon)

Wi-fi is overrated I think - Hardline is far better

And as for the charged online - Live is far better than PSN and for £40 a year which equates to what something like 70p a week (correct me if Im wrong - Im shocking at maths:lol:)

If the trend with multiplatform games turning out better 360 continues until GTAIV is released, I will go for the 360 version.

If the 360 version clearly advertises its bonus content, then that's an easy win for Microsoft.

It'll sell more 360s and it'll also sell more software wise on the 360.

the simple fact is that the 360 will the cheapest way to play GTA4, but it will also be the best version of GTA4 due to exsclusive DLC. The whole "associated with the playstation brand" is complete nonsense. It hasnt worked on any of the old playstation franchises yet.Casuals dont care about what brand they play games, all they look for is the cheapest consoles with the most games.

while that's obviously true, casuals dont' think that way, at least not the vast majority.

they will see 349 vs 400 and pick 349.

I'm going to go with the 360 at this moment. You get two free games with a 360, whereas the same cannot be said with the PS3. Why wouldn't someone get a 360 in this case? More bang for your buck.

Based on what I hear when I talk to my brother and his friends, as well as my cousin who has always bought ALL consoles (keep in mind, all were very pro-Xbox last gen)...they all either say the PS3 is the better console to own or that the PS3 is the superior hardware and worth owning solely for that reason.

They will all say that 360 has the games NOW, but the PS3 is just the superior machine and has some good games now but the TRUE stupidity is the people who think the PS3 library will always be poor to mediocre instead of growing and improving.

When I see a former Xbox fan who buys both consoles tell me that the PS3 is better...that is saying something. And while I am certain you will just assume I am making this up, you have to keep in mind that the PS is still a very strong brand and has a base of over 200 million consoles. People DO have some level of trust for that. It won't last if SOny continues to screw up, but to say that because the 360 has a strong library now, that must somehow mean the PS3 library will always suck or be inferior...that is pretty narrow minded and short sighted if you ask me. Unlike us gaming nerds, the casual gamer MAJORITY doesn't care about AAA ratings. They don't spend every penny they have on games, so most casuals only need a couple really good games - whichthe PS3 has - and they pad that out with sports games, or even BR movies.

Well, I for one still find myself associating the GTA name with Playstation personally, so it will be a no brainer for which version I will pick up. It is just a series that I have enjoyed since PS1, so it is only natural that I will pick it up for the PS3. It is just one of those series that will always be a Playstation series to me, despite the fact that it is multiplat. I imagine that alot of old GTA fans will feel this way as well.

Casuals don't care about specs or any of the add-ons. They only care about games. And most will probably buy the 360 for two reasons: 1.) It's cheaper (even if only by $50) 2.) Halo is bait for casuals, that's how it sells consoles. I'm not saying those are good reasons to buy it, but those are the reasons casuals mostly prefer 360 over PS3.

I think that the fact that the vast majority of casual gamers currently own a playstation 2 and will own( and love) the gta games on this console, then they will buy the ps3 and that version. They will be comfortable with the ps3 controller and the whole brand, rather than taking a risk with the error prone 360 and its spaceship uglycontroller

lol, no one cares about downloadable "chapters" There isn't even any info on them. The fact that 360 has a "larger" install base just proves that it will help the PS3 more. Since it has a low install base, it has more potential to grow. Especially since it will be running off the steam of Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4.

PS2 completly wrecked 360 and only a small % of its owners bought GTAIII

Trying to make a comparison based on what has happened in the past isn't really possible. Less copies of GTA were sold on the Xbox, this is true.

Firstly GTA was a huge title among casuals, and being a timed exclusive it was always going to be favoured on the PS2. Now that it will be released at the same time on both means that the Playstation has lost its advantage in this area.

Secondly the 360 version has exclusive content of some nature, if this is a big enough deal and enough is made of it by Microsoft and their advertising campaign then this will certainly even things up further.

In short Sony have lost a lot of its advantage, and with a smaller fanbase it will certainly be an interesting contest. Right now I'm going to sit on the fence, it's difficult to see which will benefit the most.

Since the 360 is bigger in NA, its quite obviouse its going to have the most sales. comapring it between the ps3 sales, the 360 would liekly be way higher.

[QUOTE="BuryMe"][QUOTE="Adrian_Cloud"]GTA series on PS2 sold more than xbox, it even sold more than the total amount of xbox's. I think it will definately help Playstation 3 more.Adrian_Cloud

But the xbox has the larger install base this time, and the downloadable chapters. It's not nearly the same situation

lol, no one cares about downloadable "chapters" There isn't even any info on them. The fact that 360 has a "larger" install base just proves that it will help the PS3 more. Since it has a low install base, it has more potential to grow. Especially since it will be running off the steam of Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4.

PS2 completly wrecked 360 and only a small % of its owners bought GTAIII

come on comparing next gen consoles. and also ofcourse gta3 would have lower sales on the xbox, since it had a smaller user base, and basically everyone had played it on the ps2.

I don't know. Don't really care either, but...

I don't think that it is a system seller, to be perfectly honest. I know its a software mover, but I don't really think it moves the systems themselves.

5starsteve

What you're saying is somewhat true.  You are right that PS2 owners will blindly follow Sony and buy the PS3, only later realizing the mistake they made.  I, as well as many other PS2 owners, made the right choice and went with the 360.
The only people comfortable with the PS3 controller are people who've never used the 360 controller.  It is so much better that it's not even a competition.  The Dualshock 3 is so light in weight it feels like you're not even holding it.  It feels cheap and shoddy and is shaped so oddly like it wasn't designed for human hands.  The 360 controller, on the other hand, actually has weight.  It rests in your hands and curves to the contours of your hands.  And the triggers are far better and smoother to handle than the PS3's R2 and L2.
Finally, the analog stick placement on the PS controller is very, very odd.  It almost ruins the experience for any FPS game when you compare it to the controls on its 360 counterpart.  And why the hell do all PS3 shooters make you use R1 to shoot instead of the triggers?  I'm sure you can change it, but it feels so odd.  And don't forget rumble!

360 and it won't be close. If you care to make it interesting I'll go on bets with you. I am undefeated when it comes to system wars bets though, be warned.

NightMorning

I dont think casuals care less about blu-ray, to be honest. It's like bundling in a controller specially made for people with no thumbs; about 1% of the population will appreciate it.

I get the impression that R* is going to take M$ money and run after putting out GTA4 for the 360. They've already committed 2 new franchises to PS3 exclusively, and mostly have been focusing on Wii/PS2/DS as of late. Maybe it's got to do with Peter Moore leaving, but I dunno.

Anyway, its going to move PS3's for sure. There's far too many PS2 gamers (casuals? whatever) on the fence, that either don't care for 360 or Halo, heard it breaks down too much, or just know the PlayStation brand too well to go with anything else. Advertising DLC is great and all but unless Microsoft plans to give it away free (not likely) I doubt it'll make much of an impact. However I'm sure it'll sell well to the installed 360 base.

Now hopefully the R* Store actually cancelled my GTA4 360 order since I decided to buy it for PS3 instead after the delays.

If the 360 version clearly advertises its bonus content, then that's an easy win for Microsoft.Planeforger

yeah that would be a very smart move..

Yeah I think they do associate GTA more with Playstation

But who in their right mind is gonna walk into a store to buy GTA4 and look at both consoles and choose the one with the higher price sticker on it

If you get the 360 version you are getting more than the things you list there. While you open yourself up to possible hardware problems (which aren't major enough to condemn it), you get two free games with the console, and a better game library. If they get a $400 PS3, they are going to be mighty pissed when they find out it doesn't play PS2 games. Casuals aren't stupid, just ignorant.

Judging by how GTA lll, Vice City and San: Andreas sold on the Xbox, it'll sell more PS3s.ball_of_air

GTA on the xbox didn't sell as well on the Xbox as on the PS2 because it was out on the PS2 months before hand and the PS2 had such a death grip on the market at that time. Now its different, a lot different.

It'll sell more on 360 and the 360 version will get the most attention, unless Sony is the market leader by then.
