Fudzilla: "We were shocked to learn that Nvidia dropped Geforce GTX 260 price all the way to $169 and the cards are available at this price today at Newegg.

XFX is the one to blame, as it offers its reference-clocked card for $169.99, but only after $30 mail in rebate. EVGA, Sparkle and BGF wants a bit more for the card and they'll charge you $179.99 to $183.99 for most or $200+ for much overclocked cards."

Man people are so uninformed about PC gaming. Even me as someone who hasn't ever built a gaming PC knows you can build angood rig capable ofplaying most new games for like $700-800or even less. Man the people I talk to who think PC gaming costs $2000 and consoles have better graphics just baffle me.

Yeah but would that work with my old P4 processor or would I have to scrap this computer and buy a totally new one to use that?

Scarp it totally, your machine doesn't have a PCI express slot, it has a old agp slot.. But there are some agp cards out there, I am unsure if there is a agp variant of this card.. It would be a bad idea though because the P4 would bottleneck the video cards performance.

Only ATI has AGP DX10 cards, from the 2000 series I think.

HD 4870's can be had for 150$. This price war AMD started on is the best thing to happen to PC gaming in a while.

Yep, that's what I figured. Too much hastle imo. If I need any additional systems I'll just get a PS3.

I think the best point to touch upon http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/evga_gtx260/6.htm is that it plays games like Crysis on extremely high resolutions and can still play the game at a average of 49 to 53 fps..

uh lets see... the 8800GTX was more then 100% better then the 7900GTX which was faster then the RSX as it had more memory bandwidth. The GTX 260 is around 50% to 100% faster then the 8800GTX. Its really sad that CryTek is the only dev really taking advantage of the incredible power available on the PC right now.

That said, can you build a PC that can do a good Crysis run for $600 or less? Or better yet, can you get one prebuilt like how consoles are prebuilt?

You can build a PC for $600 or less and be able to run Crysis with good settings and performance. There is even a Crysis Prebuilt PC that costs $700:

Good call on the Crysis rig. You can actually probably put a rig together that can run Crysis on High at 1440x900 for about $450-500

PC gaming costs more. PERIOD...... If you are a serious gamer looking to play all the recent titles + the yet to be released games coming down the pipeline. Sure you can build an average system that will play any game on the market currently for $800-$1000... but sorry, when I build a rig, I don't look at the min. requirements of the average game.

The whole point to gaming on the PC vs a Console is apparently "GRAPHICS GRAPHICS GRAPHICS", if the Hermits around here are to be taken seriously anyways. Yet these Hermits are the same people claiming PC Gaming is Cheap, then they turn around in "Graphics Comparison Threads" and post pics of Crysis running on VERY HIGH. Sorry but a $800 PC isn't gonna make Crysis look like those screens.

I've been building my own systems for some time now and I almost always upgrade every year or buy a new comp every 2 years, in order to stay current. IT IS NOT CHEAPER THAN GAMING ON A 360, PS3 or a Wii. The only way it is, is if you buy the bottom of the line components and play all the games on medium or lower settings for the next 2 years (It's sorta like buying a 360, lol, j/k..... well not really)

A 4670 can beat out any of the consoles and runs for around $70-$80 on Newegg. An $800 pc can make it look that good if you know how to build a pc and know what parts are going to benefit you most. Go for AMD processors and that cuts a fair chunk off the top. If you spend it right the PC can last you quite a few years, and it can still keep it above a console level and resolution for a reasonable price.

However I do agree, that right now, it is difficult to build a gaming rig for a similar price to a console that can run the higher end games at a higher rez.

There's an ongoing price and performance war going on. AMD are slated to drop the price on 4870 to counter. And they'll release 4890 early in April. Can't wait; and the timing is perfect. Finally building a new PC come the Easter Holidays:D

This is why AMD/ATI is needed, they bring out some excellent cards at very reasonable prices, and in the last 2 gen of cards have brought out some very nice performance cards. It forces nvidia to drop prices, which is win/win for us

Agreed, AMD/ATi bring about the best price per perfomance ratio out there. Probably getting a 4870 1gb when they drop the price of it. But I might consider copping 4890, if the performance boost is worth the price that is.

I'm BLOWING my tax return on an upgrade. I'll spend probably around $1200. Just waiting on ATI's new card. I hear the 4890s are supposed to be 20% more efficient than the 4870.

Ugh, Tigerdirect.ca still has it for $250+.

I don't believe it is the core 216 model and that is why it is dropping so low. The GTX260 core 216 is the equivalent of the 4870 1gb

Alright, sweet, definetely gonna buy this card. With 2GB of RAM and a Athlon 64x dual core 4800+ what do you think I can run Crysis on with this card?

Depends on rez and os... on XP all high at pretty high rez... on vista, mix of high/very high, but you're ltd with amount of ram
