Man, if there's one thing I hate, it's people calling guitar hero inovative and fresh. It's a complete rip off of an old, harder game that dates back to snes.

(arcade videos)

The game had more ranges of difficulty (I can't believe people brag about beating a song on guitar hero) it had a better song selection, and it was out first. I just wish they released more console versions of this in america.

I played guitar freaks and that game only had 3 ''frets'' and I take Guitar Hero as a game I don't care about real guitar. And did you beat GH I and II on expert?

Also I don't recall did Guitar freaks have Hammerons and Pulloffs?

Even on expert mode that was insultingly easy. Makes sense to have 3 frets, then they don't need to slow the game down to such a slow rate. You only have 3 fingers availible when holding ther periferal, most of the challenge comes in actually being acle to press all the buttons in guitar hero. Challenge in guitar freaks comes from the actual speed of the game.

I've played both and I prefer Guitar Hero. And you can't say as a fact which one has better song selection, it's all personal preference.

People like GH because it makes them think they can play their favorite songs; that's what makes it fun.

Are you agreeing with him? Are you claiming it's easy on expert? Tell that to Jordan, CFH, BATM, Freya and Psychobilly freakout.

I can give you proof without a cam corder and a low quality video. Take the ammount of people bragging about beating stuff on guitar hero on expert, you see how much that is? There's your proof, everyone at my school can do it, even some of my teachers. I don't want to insult guitar hero too much, it's a fun game, but it's no guitar freaks.

The only reason why one would consider Guitar Hero "easy" is because of star power. Attempt to beat a song without using it and you basically open up an entirely different game in terms of difficulty.

Because real guitar players feel the urge of showing how ''superior'' they feel about this and pretend to ruin the fun/make guitar hero players feel bad about it. When I don't see real baseball players flame baseball videogames.

To me, the way you play on a real guitar and the way you play on the controller is so different, and I cannot do it at all. It get's really bad for me if I actually know how to play the song on guitar.

Eh, I don't know about challenge, but I think that five frets is more fun.  It encourages slides, patterns where you 'walk' your hand up and down the fretboard, more possibilities with alternating chords, etc.

Yeah...I want to be able to play the game but its just not possible for me. Plus it gets frustrating that I can do most of the songs on a real guitar and I can't do it in a game

  1. I don't own an SNES
  2. Guitar Hero 2 (360) has downloadable songs.
  3. Just because there is one game before another, with a similar concept, doesn't mean the new game can't be better. this happened over 20 years ago.

Here's a few videos of GH2's expert mode. I understand that people feel that GH1's expert mode was easy. Couldn't tell you since I've only played GH2. With that being said, GH2's expert is insanely difficult.

Well, I do believe that Guitar Freaks is more difficult than the first Guitar Hero, even with just 3 frets. In general Bemani games are the most difficult rhythm games.

I haven't played Guitar Hero II so I can't compare it to that. After looking at the song selection I wasn't appealed by it.

But I'm leading to belive Guitar Freaks is harder since Konami takes actual pride about the Benami series being hard.

I guess Bemani finally got beat in the difficulty since there are sections in certain Guitar Hero 2 songs that are just physically impossible to do without a cybernetic arm.

On a side note, I always thought Pump It Up was more difficult than many of Konami's rhythm games. Well, DDR at least.

The thing with the Benami series is that Konami takes actual pride in the series being hard, so it's actual a special feature to them and so they put more effort in that aspect.

Also, you can't compare the Japanese versions to overseas ones, they always get toned down in difficulty.

But I can't really speak for DDR since it's the only one of the series which I don't like, and I haven't even bothered to look into it, so you could be right, I don't know.

I can vouch for the others in the series.

Even if they put more effort in difficulty, I still say Guitar Hero 2's expert more seems more difficult, especially since it seems that Guitar Freak seems to break it off at a 2 minute mark while a GH2 songs goes full length and keeps the difficulty consistant. It then becomes an exercise in pain tolerance.

Also, the DDR games I used to play on were Japanese import arcade machines, not oversea remakes (Gogo Dave and Busters for doing something right.) I still say Pump It Up is more difficult.

At first I was like what the **** are you talking about? Guitar Hero is amazing! But then I watched that video and...

=O that looks hard!

But Guitar Hero is still great and incredibly fun and extreme difficulty is hard no matter what you compare it to, Extreme difficulty on Guitar Hero is still hard.

As a gamer, I prefer Guitar Hero over Guitar Freaks. I'm no wannabe guitarist (never touched one for more than 2 minutes, never played any melody on one) but I know which one is a heck of a lot more fun. I don't play Mario because I'm looking for a game that supplements my real-life expriences with giant turtles, acrobatics, and mushrooms.

Guitar hero is a fun game, I admit that, it's just it's not an original game, which is what this thread was to point out, and it's not nearly as hard as most people make it sound.

Okay, that I can agree with. To add to your, I find that Guitar Freak's 3 buttons (as opposed to GH's 5) make it much easier for a beginner to pick up and play. At least for me, that is.

Can they beat one song on expert or every song perfectly? Also, it's nice that half your school can totally dominate expert mode perfectly. Pity not everybody in every school/city/town can do so.

Anyways, I want to see your "half" beat Psychobilly Freakout on expert perfectly. Youtube 4tw.

Hahaha, I see the standerds for "hard" have dropped quite a bit in the last few years... So lets re label this for the new friendlier standerds. Everyone can do hard now, what I want is crazy.

As a guitar player myself, I do find humour in how hard people say GH is. Im not dissing it though, I love GH and think its very fun when you have a bunch of people over. But NEVER say it is more difficult than playing the real guitar.

Hahaha, I see the standerds for "hard" have dropped quite a bit in the last few years... So lets re label this for the new friendlier standerds. Everyone can do hard now, what I want is crazy.

kittykatz5k

So you basically want something that normal people without 10 fingers in each hand simply cannot do. Interesting.

I find it funny that you are insulting people's views on difficulty when it comes to GH2's expert mode. Still, you haven't proved that you nor your "half" can do expert mode. Instead, you put up videoes of a game that you feel strongly about. Personally, I feel that this is about your preference more than it's about the difficulty of GH.

Whatever. *shrug*

If I told you to this instant get a camura and record yourself playing a game, would you even be remotly bothered to do it? exacally... And if you remember, guitar freaks has 3 buttons, guitar hero is the 10 fingered game in this case. That's my main problem with it, because they adjusted the gameplay with too many buttons, they slowed the songs down to a way to easy rate to play at.

If DDR has proven anything, it's that you should have stuff both for insayn difficulty and casuals, not stuff for casuals and for casuals. I talk amoun some of the most annoying casual bad gamers I know and they brag about beating guitar hero stuff on expert...

I find GH with the hyper speed trick way easier. And according to the way this thread is going, Originality=difficult.

And no one answered me if GF has Hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Again, If you're going to spout out and say GH2's expert is extremely easy with anybody capable of doing so, either back it up or shut up. I'm not saying this to be mean, I'm saying this to be realistic. Being put on the spot and being unable to back up your worlds only embarrasses yourself.

With that said, I  like how you explained your views on the game within that first paragraph. That's what you should be doing more of instead of acting like an insulting jerk because someone is not at your "level". Either way, I will still argue that GH2's expert speed and button layout is still hard and taxing.

I agree that GH in general has done well attracting casuals but if you think that GH2's expert mode is hella easy, you are either too good, exaggerating your capablities or blowing smoke up people's ass to make your preferred game look that much better.

I don't think I could do it any day of hte week no practice or retries easy, it's just not as hard as a hard on a rythem game should be. Not even close.

I still find it extremely hard. I find it funny you attack GH2's expert mode yet admit that you can't do it without practise. Isn't that what people do in any game to get better?

No one can do a rythm game practice less, I figured it was pretty self implied. I just found way to early in playing the game that this was much easier than guitar freaks or ddr.

Don't you think "better song selection" is just a little bit subjective?  But since you bring it up, Shadows Fall + Lamb of God >>> J-Pop

Which is my point. If you're bringing up practise as an argument against any game, you've pretty much failed.

Also, it's hard to get a feel on the game early on, especially when you're basically going through the easier levels of difficulty first. As said, come back when you are capable of dominating expert mode before you put your thoughts on GH2's difficulty.Â
