Go Rockband if you can afford it the drums alone make it better than Guitar Hero. It's my favorite game at the moment and the best casual, the best party, the best group game ever. Rockband is awesome I can't say enough good about it. If you have friends or family you can game with on a regular basis it is especially good.

If you want the fun, party vibe go with rock band its a good game. If you want a challenge go with GHIII.
GH3 has a better song linup in my opinion but Rockband has way better multiplayer.Cooldude224
Agreed on the song choices rock band has ALOT of 80's and 70's songs that not alot of people may like. The 90's song are were rock band shines tho. GH has alot of modern bands like killswitch and in flames.

if your the loner type of guy who like competitive things and only has one frieing then get guitar hero

I tried Rock Band at a Wal-Mart and it was fun as hell. Sadly, the drums were the only thing that worked, the guitar was pretty much broken, and no one could figure out how to ge the microphone to work. How do you play using the mic anyway? There's no buttons on it, so how do you select it?

you've got to have a controller turned on and then you plug the mic into the system. You use the controller to select everthing.
GH3 has better song list on it. Rockbands Guitar design is better except that i wish they woulda kept the strum from the guitar hero guitars because the new strum breaks easily and is sort of innacurate.
except (like most have mentioned) the guitar note charts are better on GH

GH's are far harder. i think RB's are 'better' in terms of actually matching the music. there's been a few comparo videos showing the two games' note tracks side by side as the song plays, and some of GH's stuff is just 'wtf?' like they tossed it in just to make it harder. you can feel the difference when its actual musicians making the game versus gamers making the game. if i'm playing alone at a friend's house, it's a tossup between RB and GH, though i tend to prefer doing RB drums over either guitar. if there's more than one of us, it's basically always going to become us playing RB. edit: ah, and the DLC for rock band has been totally slaughtering GH's DLC in our opinion. which might be a bad thing, because we're all spending lots of $ on the 360 DLC songs :|
