The point of rock band and GH is to mimmick the feeling of playing guitar not to emulate.
I love the people that hate on rock band or GH and say "Get a real guitar!!"

I think the reason that a lot of people hate on Guitar Hero is that it promotes mediocrity. Yes its a fun game, but at the end of the day, you're still just waving a plastic, Fischer-Price toy in the air, being proud and boastful of your playing "skillz," but still know diddly about how to play music, or at the very least have done something worthwhile involving something more than learning how to press five colored buttons in sequence. I seriously think that, in 3-5 years, the fake instrument genre will have exhausted itself and the more mature among us will hang our heads in shame at how ridiculous we looked playing (Plastic) Guitar Hero, despite how fun it was at the time.
For some perspective: I'm a beginning guitarist, and I just learned how to play 'White Christmas,' on my Schecter (a real guitar). Its an easy song to learn, but I got more satisfaction from being able to play it than when I mastered 'Jordan' on hard difficulty.

yea because the game in its own right is hard.. and for people who never played a real guitar finishing TTFAF on expert is a huge accomplishment, but i sure as hell don't want to play the real thing... its a fun game, it has nothing to do with reality, in fact im more impressed if my son could play the real guitar than play guitar hero, its just good clean fun. but i also agree that people need to realize that just because you can finish one song, doesn't mean your the greatest guitar player ever, because your not... hell you probably cant read the note sheet
I wonder if it will actually teach you anything, seems heaps better than guitar hero which totally doesn't interest me at all. Then again it shouldn't considering I can play most of the songs on a real guitar. It's funny though, some of the songs on guitar hero on expert mode are harder to learn than if you did it by scratch on real guitar.

That'd be like saying, don't play CoD4 join the army instead you'll get a bigger feeling of accomplishment when you kill Iraqi women and children than just killing men in games!
I'll be getting this. I'm teaching myself guitar now and it's difficult. This could be just what I need. If only they offered some more songs though.TMontana1004
It will probably help your learning, but the best way is still by ear. I'm not sure if learning entirely to play of a screen is a good thing. On expert mode it should hide the notes.

I don't think there is anything wrong with people playing guitar hero for fun, but I can't relate to it very well because I play guitar. Guitar hero just seems like a waste of time to me. Also being able to read sheet music has nothing to do with your ability as a guitarist.

I believe your logic is correct, but just listen to how dumb that sounds. Its a bad comparison.

I agree with you 100%. And you're right, you don't need to learn to read sheet music / music notation to play guitar. The list of famous guitarists who can't tell you what an "accidental" looks like on the bar is huge.
Nobody hated Sonic the Hedgehog because it wasn't a 100% accurate hedgehog simulator. Mario has never ever actually been about virtual plumming, yet nobody cares. These are games. Being a musician I shake my head at others who hate on games like Rock Band. Is giving kids the idea that music is fun such a horrible idea? Is that the end all? When schools are chopping arts programs left and right, how is bad to have something that shows people that music is something fun and shouldn't be discarded like its an invalid subject?
LMAO @ people saying that or suggesting it directly or indirectly. Alot of people who are doctors played with those fake doctor sets yet nobody is like, "Fisher price kid thermometers and stethoscopes thats are designed for 4 year olds are not only destroying the livelihood of doctors, but they are destroying the sciences of chemistry and biology." LOL, you'd be laughed out a room for saying something like that. Yet if its music everyone's ears perks up and they actually start to take that nonsense to heart.

You might as well say that for every single video game...... In every game you aren't actually doing what is in the game, it's just a weak simulation of it.

Yep.
Would suck to play the drums with a real guitar. Or to try and sing into a real guitar. So, how is this better than Rock Band?
Come on. Its like telling us CoD4 sucks when compared to really shooting a terrorist. I don't want to kill a man. I just want to pretend I do it while sitting on my couch. Get it?
Seriously, its not a bad idea. Would be cool to use the gaming to enhance a real life talent. Buuut, good luck. I can't afford real ish.

Guitar Rising = training tool.
Others = games.
If you want to train playing real guitar = Guitar Rising.
If you want to train playing air guitar = others.
Interesting... what I thought they should have done since the beginning.
Still... Guitarfreaks >>> All

Rock Band is cool but this is leagues better than any music "game."
actually, the drumming in rock band is a hell of a lot closer to real life than the plastic guitar is, but still not that close.
