Sony made it pretty clear that it's not free to play but will be when it comes out of beta.

What language are you speaking?
I've played just about every survival sim atm, but this game to me has the most promise. It's already gone through so many updates in a day, and the outreach/communication from devs to the community is stellar. gg SoE
I've yet to see something as awful as this. Besides the game itself the marketing is horrible as well.
Sony has said: "If you think it's pay to win, don't buy it and don't play it." :') Horrible, absolutely horrible.
Everyone that has been part of the team that brought this game to life should be fired and banned from the gaming industry.
Also, check this airdrop reveal video. Again, absolutely horrible but funny as hell just for being so awful. Someone pays money for a server event and probably ends up not getting anything, even after giving Sony his or her money. :')
Airdrop Reveal video
Sony filling the Nogames void beeches Such Power such creativity, Such PSN servers, Such beast
Sony = Fking genius
He reviewed an Early Access alpha of a game. What the hell did he expect?
The game will be F2P on launch. They just didn't want the masses trying out the game in a clearly unfinished and broken state and then writing it off. That's why they have a retail model for access right now.
Everybody going "congrats Sony" in this thread is being ignorant.
I can see it being a hit on the consoles sadly...
On the consoles? It's been in the top 2 best sellers on Steam since it released.
All of SoE's games are coming to the PS4. Planetside 2, EverQuest Landmark, EverQuest Next and H1Z1 are all slated to come to the PS4 eventually.
This is an ALPHA of a game that is still months away from release. It's buggy and broken because it's not finished. That's the point of Early Access.
For those looking for a better experience, I recommend 7 Days to Die. A couple of my friends have sunk the last several days into it. Apparently it's Minecraft meets DayZ.

This seems like the most cynical type of early access cash grab imaginable, but that's not really the point I was making. I was just trying to say that the sneer about H1Z1 potentially being a hit on consoles doesn't really hold weight when it's already a hit on PC.
This game looks awful, Alpha phase or not, there is no way in hell they should be charging people to play this P2W game at any point. Lol at getting 2 crates and 1 key to open them. The premium is even worse you get 6 crates and 4 keys meaning to open them all you need to give them another £8 on top of the £29.99 you already have paid for the FREE game.
I'll bet the cash shop works 100% without a single glitch.
Out of interest, is it perma-death? Meaning everything you pay for is gone when you die.
@GarGx1: You don't have to pay to play the game when it finally released. you only have to pay to get into the early access alpha/beta testing. They did the same thing with Everquest Landmark and the earliest alphas of Planetside 2. It keeps the masses from playing the game in an unfinished state and then writing it off for good.
As for your question. You create a character on each server. Unlike DayZ you cannot transfer this character between servers. Your account has an "account inventory" that all of your characters can access. This is where cosmetics you buy or find go. Your character on the server has a separate in-game inventory where all of the food, water, clothing items with statistics (warmth, armor, etc.) go. When you die you lose all of this and start from scratch. Even people who paid to get supply drops in one life do not carry over those supplies or weapons into the next.
Death is supposed to be pretty common. Lives are really counted in hours, not day. Finding basic supplies isn't that difficult and the game's mechanics forces player interaction more often resulting in a lot more unique encounters and most likely death.
Sorry to say this buy PC gamers have had this coming for a ******* while now. You're paying for a broken game then complaining that the game is broken. I'm all for constructive criticism but you shouldn't be railing on a game that you know is broken or early in development. It doesn't matter how much money you put in. You took the risk and should own up to it.
@Wasdie:
I get it but it looks truly awful (not talking graphics here although 2004 did spring to mind). The footage from that video was a game that's barely functioning let alone ready for a paid for alpha test phase. Really it looks like a massive cash grab after a few months of advertising.
Going from what you're saying about death and the alpha review it sounds like basic supplies, i.e. Raspberries and Sticks, are easy to find but if you want more than that you pretty much need to pay for it through the cash shop. That means for people who do like the game, it's going to cost them a shed load of money long term. It'll be a big pass from me unless they totally remodel the P2W model currently implemented.

I seriously doubt there are many people in this forum who have actually bought and are playing this game. Others who do buy and then publicly complain rather than report problems through the proper means are just muppets who like to whine, this is not confined to the PC gaming space either. Also being a SOE game, it's coming to PS4
I personally don't like the way they are implementing the cash shop at such an early stage or what their apparent plans are for it (which is why they're not getting my money at all). As far as the game is concerned, it'll improve in every aspect but seems like it's been thrown to the wolves far too early

So did the console gamers have it coming with MCC, Driveclub, Unity, and many other games that weren't working properly on their retail releases?
People buying Early Access know that it's not a full release yet. The developer fully discloses the state of the game and doesn't try to hide it.

yet everytime an EA game is released on steam its message board is filled with people going nuts over bugs and crashes. Many people still dont know what alpha development is and jump in thinking the game is nearly finished with some polish needed
I get that you make your gameplay totally uninspired and boring.
I get that you barely finish your game first before implementing a cash shop.
I get that zombie AI is very hard to code
But really... did they have to make the game look ugly as sin ?
After watching that, it makes The WarZ seem like a good alternative to DayZ.
Didn't War Z release in a more polished state than this ? XD
Like didn't the zombies actually move and that there were actually zombies in the map.
Because for 99% of this review of this zombie survival game... I didn't get to see zombies

The F2P model is going to fail the game.
The devs completely went a 180 degrees from their previous stance of "cosmetic microtransaction only" to "paying money to air drop guns and supplies".
if something cost 14.99 ITS NOT free to play
games need to get there msg across that IS NOT FREE TO PLAY thats 14.99 for the game period no free to play nothing
Sony made it pretty clear that it's not free to play but will be when it comes out of beta.
until then, It shouldn't be on the Free to Play page.

That might be due to how steam works.
That might be due to how steam works.
I still think it's a bunch of baloney since it's the only game in Steam's Free to Play Section that actually has a Price Tag.
Even the other Early Access stuff doesn't have a Price tag on it in that section.
