honestly folks, this is only a solid AA title

1. it lacks innovation, besides the gravity gun, which was mainly used for puzzles and flipping over your vehicle

2. the weapons feel horrible, and feel quite generic

3. it lacked the serious tension of the first one, remember when you climbed up the ladder and faced the military for the first time?

4. the first one was light on story, and this one tried to make it a bit more of a focus, and it was too corny, except, alex( a girl) was really hot

5. it begins to feel very monotonous after a while

thoughts?

the first one was a classic, and got me into gaming when i was 8

This is flamebait. And for a game that was way ahead of it's time I find it pretty hard to believe it was overrated.

i actually do agree with you about the tension.  half life's action had me on the edge of seat.  half life 2 on the other hand had me sitting back admiring the physics and the visuals.  the actual gun play kind of took a back seat.  it's still an amazing game though.

I actually agree with you. I liked the game quite a bit. I would probably rate it a high 8. I just didn't think the action was all that great. I agree with "the weapons feel horrible, and feel quite generic" I got really bored with the weapons so it was hard to keep going towards the end. I wanna play it again though when it's released on 360/ps3. Maybe I'll like it better.

i'd have to agree, if HL1 had the same quality graphics as HL2 as well as the physics, it would be a better game, especially as far as AI and weapons are concerned. For some odd reason, HL1 does have better AI then HL2 (don't argue, it's a fact, even mentioned by GS). Plus HL1 had the cool alien weaponry, HL2's arsenal is rather dull in comparison, just the typical FPS weapons : /

If you haven't played HL2:EP1, I suggest you play it. It's heavier on the action and has plenty of Alyx :). Everything about it is better than HL2, except for the length.

I loved the original half-life, but to be honest, I lost focus and even got bored at points during Half-life 2. Weapons, aside from the gravity gun (which I felt was overused) were uninspired, enemies were okay, story was ok, it was still awesome to play because of the physics, but definately not on the level of the first one.

HL2 is regarded as the best FPS since HL1.

 Exellence of the highest degree..................

I`d give the cake to Deus Ex, but thats semi RPG - not true FPS.

Coolbits, it's a very small OC though for now till I get a better cooler. I have also heard some 7900 GT does not handle big overclocks well so I'm not going to push it too much.

Because HL2 is recognised as the best FPS since HL, and people know that this is simply to start a flameware.

It was one of my favorite games last gen.  The visuals were amazing and you really felt immersed in the game.  As far as excitement, how can you deny feeling a little anxiety when you were being chased through the ghetto by the authorities in the beginning of the game?

If you think the only important part of the story was the role of Alyx, then you are a fool. Listen to Dr. Breen's broadcasts, look at the fear in the eyes of the citizens when their apartment gets raided; watch how City 17 becomes a barren wasteland; climb the Citadel and see the terrible industry that takes place; and THEN try to tell me that the Gordon/Alyx love interest was all there was to the game's story.

I agree to some extent. Half Life is one of the best games ever made, so it was kind of impossible for halflife 2 to live up to those standards. I think what makes Halflife 2 different is its whole industrial theme. The fact that you are always fighting in the city and buildings. Original halflife had a very good mix of industrial (black messa) and organic (alien world and weaponry) settings. Also original halflife had terrifying creatures which in halflife 2 are friendly all of sudden "freeman excel at all tasks...freeman this freeman that" without any explanation. Not to mention they had challenging bosses in halflife but there is not such thing in halflife 2. Plus halflife was overall more challenging game. These are some of the reasons, i like halflife over 2. But halflife 2 is still a solid 9/10 game

but i have a question, is ep1 worth the 20 bucks? a serious problem i had with the first one was the lack of enemy types

I haven't played Half-life 2, so all I'll say is that I haven't been impressed enough with anything I've seen/read/heard about it to bother with trying to play it through steam, and I'm not too hot on the idea of playing a console port (Not that I mind console shooters, but they have to be built from the ground up for the platform).

I'd disagree by pointing out that there really isn't a reasonable FPS that is better than it from last gen, maybe Halo in many people's eyes, but nothing else.

You'd be hard pressed to find a more polished game from head to toe.  Great visuals, great art theme, great story, great voice acting, and puzzles that actually work in a FPS.

Saying you think it's overrated is fine in your opinion, but the game is definately deserving of an AAA score.

now your gonna make fun of me all you want, but my favorite dx9 shooter was quake 4, because it satisfied my trigger finger, and had a great difficulty

although the last "boss" was retarded, i wanted to fight some giant monster!

To each his own, but Quake 4 definately wasn't at HL2's level.  IMO that is.  Hell, Doom 3 was better than Quake 4.

Saying you think it's overrated is fine in your opinion, but the game is definately deserving of an AAA score.

now your gonna make fun of me all you want, but my favorite dx9 shooter was quake 4, because it satisfied my trigger finger, and had a great difficulty

although the last "boss" was retarded, i wanted to fight some giant monster!

hl2 was dx8 right?

To each his own, but Quake 4 definately wasn't at HL2's level.  IMO that is.  Hell, Doom 3 was better than Quake 4.

to me, quake 4 was what doom 3 shouldve been, hell they used a tweaked version of the same engine!
