Actually the Halo trilogy is more accurate. With 1 being outstanding and the other two being rehashes put into a different visual style and giving so much hype not a single reviewer was willing to state both games were seriously lacking in single player.
Halo 2's single player was junk and for so many more reasons than just that you had to play as the Arbiter and because of its ending. There seemed to be very little though put into enemy placements or level layouts and the scripted sequences just felt extremely un-Halo. They pretty much fixed all those issues with Halo 3. I think if you really look at it objectively Halo 3 is a better single player game than the original Halo. Not nearly as much backtracking, the fact that the entire second half of the game isn't just a rehash of the first half alone make it better. Throw in the massively increased scale, Scarab battles, 4 player co-op, a replay modere-live all those WTF!!? moments and see the battles from a whole new perspectiveand fun tactical ways to use the equipmentand I don't see how you can honestly say that Halo 1 has a better single player.
Let's just say I wasn't hyped about Halo 1, but I made the same mistake as with Halo 2 and was perhaps overhyped about Halo 3. Here I was expecting another experience like Halo 1, but apart from the 4 player co-op (which is a blast) I really didn't get the same feeling as I did with Halo 1, but I haven't finished it yet. So my opinion may still change.
oh and I still feel that introducing the flood really killed the game.
