I own both a 360 and an ok PC (Geforce 7950GT, not sli).I have played HL back in 1998 and I bought the 2005 Holiday Pack (HL2, CSS, HL2 ep.1) for the PC. My friend argues that the 360 version is way better (although he dosen't state why...) I personally prefer the mouse over gamepad when it comes to FPS. Since this is like the second or third console port Valve is releasing, do you think the controls will flow smothly on the 360? What are some of the differences between the PC and 360 versions? If you own both, which version do you plan on getting?

I personally plan on getting the PS3 version...

However, Valve are an extremely skilled developer, and I think they can manage to pull the Orange Box off on consoles, but I would say get the Steam version for you, as 1. the 360 version will be plagued by idiots on XBL, and 2. the PC version is cheaper, you get access to the Team Forteress bata NOW, and 3. it has mods.

In short, PC, then PS3, then 360.

I'm getting the PC version just becasue I'm used to playing Half-Life 2 on the PC. The 360 is plenty powerful enough to max it though and that 7950GT is almost overkill the way Valve optimizes games.

I only have 1 HL2 mod, Garys Mod, and I never use it. I just don't see the big whoop about mods.

Moo!

...well see what console is better?! ...as for "idiots" well they are also on PC trust me and Im sure the PS3 isnt left out with the amount of "idiots" online.

ONTOPIC:

A 7950GT is more than enough to produce better image quality/graphics than both consoles only an "idiot" like your "friend" would pick console over PC with an FPS especialy when it comes to HL!

lol, there goes the cows with the idiots on XBL thing again. I'm sure if PSN had nearly as many people on it there would be just as much, if not more idiots than XBL. Is that the only reason why you think the ps3 version will be better? Cause last i heard, Valve hates the ps3.

yea, "Value" is talented, but since you're going the PS3 route, have fun playing it from the "talent" of EA a month after i get my 360 version.

Yeah, I'm not doubting that mods are awesome it's just that I'm content with the game the way it is. If I want something different I simply play a different game.

Definilty PC, you don't need an uber PC to make a Valve game looks good, that's why Source engine owns. If your PC is very very weak, then go for the Xbox 360 or PS3 version.

The answer is kinda obvious since you prefer Kb/M, and traditionally HL has been a PC franchise and will prolly play better on the PC, your 7950Gt will play it beautifully and it's even a tad bit cheaper. This being said I think it will be great on consoles as well, since at least to me HL seems the kind of game that suits the consoles well and won't have to be crippled in the translation process.

360 version for me. Feedback from the controller just seems to enhance the experience for me, making a game feel more solid. It's also nice to feel the guns firing and the impact when getting hit.

I've always played HL games on the PC, so I'm looking forward to it on the 360. The vehicles should be a lot more fun and controlable too :D

You've given no reason to get the PC version, whereas my reason on page 2 to get the 360 version is very logical.

PC Version, it's cheaper. If you pre order now you can play TF2, there's achievments in TF2, there's a friends list as well, so you can see who's online and all that junk. If you already own half life or episde 1, you can give it to your friends. plus mods that will eventually come out, new maps etc..

The 360 version pales in comparison. Mods on PC alone destroy any validity the 360 version has as a game. Unless your computer can't run Half Life 2 (which is probably an impossibility seeing as how it is so well optimised) then you shouldn't even think of wanting the 360 version.

Not really, a decent power sub will be able to make everything the room shake all by itself. Personally I would use sound for FF, rather than use a device not too different from what women use to pleasure themselves, makes me feel kinda dirty everytime I get shot playing a fps on the x360 :?.

Half Life 2 is a PC game, it is the best experience there. Gordon Freeman is a PC kinda dude. Mods will rule and counter strike source rules on the PC. The PC version is the better one and not only that but most of the contant has already been out for nearly 3 years.

ont know if you guys noticed, but the pc version of TF2 beta has native 360 gamepad (and non 360 gamepad support under your mouse options. so the pc version would be the best, since it can do all the xbox version has (even acheivments), and you can use the mouse. so yeah, pc version.

I just plain prefer a controller to a K&M, and that's not because I poor at using it, I like the mouse for looking and the wheel for weapon changing, but for the rest, I prefer a controller.

I said achievements, not achievement points, a bit different. Achievements tell you and others what you have accomplished in the game. Achievement Points are used to quanitatively tell others that you are better at gaming then they are.

The ps3 version that valve wouldnt have attached their name to with a 10 ft pole? EA doing the PS3 port btw. I worry about EA since they couldnt get madden to run at 60fps on PS3.

Rumble makes it harder for me, I use Sound/Sight to detect where I;m being hit ... but playing Halo today, because my Hands are rumbiling aswell ... the ruble is all over and not on a specific side ... this confusing my brain and I dont instintivly know which wya to turn like on the PC.

As long as you can run it on PC, the PC version will be better. Maybe not for the single player experience in HL2, episode 1, and episode 2 if your PC sucks (which it doesn't), but the multiplayer will always be better on PC, though i'd take kb/m over two joysticks even if it meant losing some visual quality.

More servers, more high level competition, and better latency means the PC online experience will be better. Of course there are user created mods too, which get to be pretty amazing, like black mesa.

Are all of your posts bashing the PS3?

Navy_Sealz

Nope, but a majority. It's just so easy with that piece of garbage.

PC for some major reasons:

1) Mouse and KB > Controllers. This is fact. the fact that most console games use a liberal amount of Auto-aim is proof. If you want more precision, go with the PC version.

2) Free on-line community. This includes: Free user created maps, free mods, free servers to play on. For instance, I bet you a least a month after the game is officially released that there will be at least 2 more maps added by the modding community (I'm hoping for Epicenter and Crossover 2 to come back). The "servers" point is also a key point because the XBox network is P2P, which means no dedicated servers. This translates to a) more lag, b) you can't browse servers to choose the one with the lowest amount of ping to increase connection, and c) no grantee that whoever is hosing isn't just going to bail. As for mods, just imagine if they can form Portals into some sort of Multi-player game. That would be nuts.

3) Steam's Community is finally taking off. That's right, Steam community is the exact same as XBox live now, and it's completely free as well. You can join clans, make friends lists and see what games they are playing at all times, and it even has Achievements to unlock (I'm 88% done on TF2 already. Just need the "Play with 8 Friends" and "Defend Hydro without a capture" ones.)
