The Borealis is a ship where scientific investigations were made as far as I know. (If I remember correctly, if you looked closely on Dr. Kleiners video, you could make out the Aperture Science logo. An Easter Egg? Maybe. An indication to Portal being mixed with HL2? Possible!)super_mario_128
Every single "unit" that the combine uses seems to be a cyborg of sorts - that is a hybrid of machine and a living entity. Walkers and those flying whales as I call them, are all "cyborgs".
The Borialis seems to be a ship pocessing some kind of gateway technolog - Portal seems to give us some answers into that. Further taking a look into the history, you can see that Black Mesa and Aperture Science were rivals, and were both battling each other government grants for some kind of gateway technology. Perhaps that was that they had stowed away in that ship.
I personally think that they next Half Life 2 Episode will be a race against the combine to get that ship. Eventually an emo Alyx and Gordon will be the first inside, and we will be left with a massive cliff hanger ending, the same as the original Half Life 2, and it will set up Half Life 3 which will be finally of series, released in 2015.
The Borealis is apparently owned by Apeture Science, Black Mesa's research rival.
The game kind ofacted like we should have already known that or something.

Yeh, he was an awesome character though. A nice change from all the cheery people, to a pessimistic and bossy old git!
Borealis, back in the leaked beta days, was a really really creepy hip carrying stalkers, soldiersand such, obviously not made by apeture science at the time. You got to the front of it and entered a submarien in the end where you and what is now oddyssa took a sub down to an underwater science lab. kittykatz5k

Wiki tells me episode 3 is the last story in the Half Life 2 arc, so there may be a possibility for an episode 3.

Magnusson?
I liked him. He did kind of come out of nowhere, but it was good to see a fresh face to join the crew from the earlier episodes. I appreciated his different character, also.
There's a lot of stuff I'm excited about for Episode 3, because there's so much left to be answered. I just hope it doesn't all feel rushed to a conclusion. Can't wait to see the commentary on it too!

It actually does mixbecausethere r some indication about Black Messa of HL in Portal.
maybe they just ripped it out of their arse because they ran out of ideas lol. i was left dumbfounded by this bit about the borealis. or maybe their intention was that we werent meant to know much about it because gordon didnt either? i dunno...
doesnt matter, it was a great game.
Actually, the Advisors are the most advanced form of Combine, I'm guessing. Since they have that much power of telekinesis and such, I would guess they're a breed of overlords.
But how they become that way, I have no idea.
Can I just say that nowhere in HL2 does it say that the Advisors are the original or natural form of Combine. They might be, but it might just as easily be something else entirely. Personally I think the Combine have incorporated so many races that the original race has been lost.chutup

But then the questions comes up as what are the basic combine? Are they pretty much just smaller slugs in a suit with a mask, or probably something like an actual mutated human or other alien that's under the mind control of an Advisor?
Makes you wonder if any of the Combine soldiers you kill in the game are ACTUAL combine, but that's only considering that Advisors are the only TRUE kind of Combine.

Iam pretty sure Portal is set after the events of HL1 and the 7 hour war. The place is completely abandoned and if you go outside it looks just like HL2 terrain. All destoryed cars and no life whatsoever. Kinda creppy if you ask me.
The advisors probably are the combine overlords because Dr. Breen who was the highest of all the humans is always seen talking to the advisors when something major happens (Like when seeing Gordon Freeman for the first time)
Plus when the citadel was going into meltdown the advisors were the first ones to leave.
