So it's been 3 years since those great games came out. In your opinion which one aged the best?

I would say Half Life 2. I found Halo 2's campagin to be really boring but the multiplayer made up for it.
I'm not a big HL fan, but HL2's single player has aged a lot better. It's use of physics as a core gameplay element really hasn't been done right in another game since.
However, Halo 2's multiplayer has also aged extremely well. Most of its outstanding online features weren't duplicated or bested until Halo 3.

Yeah, this brings up a whole new subject for me becuase I feel that Halo 3's multiplayer was way to similar to Halo 2's and they should have improved it more. It's still a good game though.

The first two levels are pretty much just shooting barrels and stacking random things.

HL2 made pretty standard uses of its physics engine during the first few levels, but it really picked up with the gravity gun. I'm not saying the physics were implented perfectly (there's a lot of room for improvement), but no game has done it better since.
Halo 2. If Halo 3 didn't come out i think people would still be playing Halo 2 much longer than HL2.
I've just arrived at Black Mesa in The Orange Box and so far the differences between Halo 2 and Half-Life 2 are leaps and bonds. Halo 2 relies on punch for punch action and gunfights while Half-Life 2 relies more on progression.
Halo 2 is categorized into this battle, then the next battle, then the next. Thats what I prefer from my FPS, not I need to get here but I am going to have to do this to get there.
halo 2 campaign was rushed and truly was the worst of the halo trilogy. Hl2 bested the lengendary gameplay of the first.
Halo 2's mp on the other hand, had not met its match untill halo 3 blew it into the next galaxy. To summarize my results and probably the result of the majority who played both games.
halo 2 aged better in terms of multiplayer
half life 2 aged better with its single player
