Lets see....

The game that carried Microsoft's system back when it launched.....

Or the game that singlehandedly revolutionized the FPS genre?

Just to back my statement up.... Until Half-Life came out, FPS's were known simply as "Doom clones." There honestly was no reason to call them anything else. Then, Half-Life comes and reshapes the way the industry looks at the FPS genre.

Which one wins? I'd say it is obvious.

Xalaten

Why did Halo 3 sell more than Half-Life 2, then?

Why did Wii Play sell more than Halo 3 then?

PWNED!

also I want to note that my complaint about the genre includes the recent Left 4 Dead... I dont think its an innovator...but god damn is it refreshing and different...sheeshe id complain less if we got refreshing ideas with old concepts.... also Replaying Half Life 2 and the episodes recently has been a ton of fun....

[QUOTE="waffle57"]To sum it up Half Life: Innovation, pushing to genre forward Halo: Refinement of the innovationFrozenLiquid
The only real innovation Half-Life did though was revolutionary storytelling. Everything else was pretty much an evolutionary step.

It's most of the time this way, the most influential games, those that are later endlessly copied, games that change the industry are almost always not really innovative at all. I guess it's mostly because true innovators are mostly unpolished, their ideas shine only when somebody later takes them and polishes them up.

Very well said. Its sad but true. Innovative titles are usually pushed to the side, due to lack of polish, and it takes another that copies the same once innovative design, coating it with sheen and production values, to get it noticed, and become applauded by critics. Rarely one comes along that does both I guess....

LOL. You can't even compare Half-Life to Halo.

half-life is BORING.

Half-life has some nice puzzles, but is half-life tetris 2? lol ? :?

half-life is boring to play, only gravity gun is good weapon.

nice puzzles, good physics, nice graphics, but where is the entertainment?

it is good old men ? sorry, halo wins IMO :(
