Although there have been many other videogames feature in Time, Halo 3 was the first one of this fall and just shows how much hype its getting.

Yeah anyways.... who read it and what'd ya think of it. I though it was pretty interesting in how it explored the idea of Halo becoming as big as Harry Potter or Star Wars. Although this will most likely never happen it was god to see Halo 3 get 3 pages in a magazine with as high regard and respect as Time. Its also nice to see Bungie get the credit they deserve in maing Halo and videgames more than entertainment and an art.

I read it. The article was pretty n00bish but that's to be expected. It shows that the people writing Time feel that Halo has entered or is on the verge of entering the mainstream.

It wasn't the lead story. They needed something for their entertainment/technology story, so why not go with the biggest videogame on the planet?

I never said it wasn't. I'm just giving my opinion on why the article was written. If you feel that Halo has been snubbed in some way, take it up with the Time editors.

im sure you have heard of The Sims... halo really isn't mainstream, it's just the hardcore gamers have such a strong voice in the gaming community that it seems like EVERY gamer is playing Halo... btw, i never played halo... evr.

Did i say it as the Cover STORY? Wow... people really need to get some reading comprehension. I said it was on the cover, which it was. Usually the entertainment/technology story does not appear on the cover, so yes it is significant to a small degree.

Halo is probably one of the most mainstream game around. For X360 it is definitly the most mainstream one. Now overall I'd say Wii Sports is.

They put all kinds of diverse crap on the top of the magazine to attract a diverse crowd of people. Its marketing 101.

I must have a hard time getting through an issue of Time, since I have a reading comprehension problem and all.

A tad off topic, but Time is one of the most liberally biased magazine I have read (not that that's a bad thing), followed closely by U.S. News. I remember Time had a PS3 hype article, so they basically cover everything under the sun. Games are an important part of the tech industry and Time recognizes this by following wherever the story takes them.

True but it is still the only game to be on it recently and they dont always put the tech section on the top.

I think the way this thread went proves that it's hard to defend the "Halo isn't a mainstream game" argument.

Why wouldn't it get as big as Star Wars? It's only in its beginning years. Ask anyone who the Yuuzhan Vong were when Return of the Jedi came out and they would be like " Youwhat?" Halo can get big =D Its a universe not limited to one hero.

Halo franchise: 14 million units sold. 40th highest selling franchise. Pokemon franchise: over 155 million units sold. 2nd highest selling franchise. I still can't get over that one. Halo is not mainstream. It has lines at launch, and media frenzy, but all that means is it is really hyped. Halo2 may have sold 3 million in 24 hours, but it only sold like 5 more million since then. Mario is mainstream. Pokemon is mainstream. The Sims is mainstream. Halo just plays the media hype really well.
