I was thinking about it earlier today after getting through five horrible matches of Halo last night, I can't think of a game with a worse community. The way everyone sounded, it was like my ears were being violated by crackling prepubescent voices. I got to the point where I just took off my headset because I couldn't take the whining any longer.

Seems like there's three types of people that play Halo online.

 1. The Kids ~ Constant complaining, with either an almost girl-like voice, never ending crackling voice, or a voice that sounds something like a seven year old boy trying to imitate a burly deep voice, and doing horribly at it. Other than those main features, it's pretty much just too much talking and poor attempts at being funny. They seem to make up about 65% of the Halo community.

 2. Elitist Nerds ~ Characterized by mostly sarcastic comments and general cynicism. Losing a match seems to result in nerd-tastic temper tantrums. As far as typical voice type, it could be any where from an average voice to a nasally voice. They seem make up about 25% of the Halo community.

 3. Normal Gamers ~  Generally pretty quiet, doesn't talk too much or rudely. Plays the game and then moves on to the next round without complaint. They seem to make up about 10% of the Halo community.

This is just in my experience, but almost every match I've ever been in could be split up into those three categories and most of the time using those percentages. The only other game with a similar community that I've seen would be Call of Duty 4, but doesn't seem as bad.

Does anyone else notice this with the Halo community or with any other games?

Once I came across an angry middle aged man from somewhere in Northern England on Halo 3, our team lost and he got very angry. Don't forget those kind of people.

I personally find the annoying kids hilarious, they rarely show up in COD4 on PS3 but when they do it's so funny because it ALWAYS leads to a fight between people. I love hearing people argue and throw insults at each other its too funny.

I don't really mind kids unless the kids start yelling like crazy for no reason or their mic volume is through the roof.

I enjoy the community for the most part.

Any online "world" has its share of jerks on it. That is what the mute button and report functions are for.

Any online game with voice chat functionality will garner some totally arrogant p---- if you don't know already. I've had my fair share on Gears 2, with people who trash talk a lot. I can't count any online game I've played with that.... DOA, Halo, Gears, even R2 beta had a few for me. Meh, it just happens....

I could agree with that, off the top of my head I can't think of an annoying person that I met on TF2.

The problems are exaggerated.

But it still has the worst community on the Internet, including -that- place.

The forums are unreadable now.

Its actually really quite sad, 3-4 years ago Halo had one of the best communities out of any vidya gaem, people where creative, helpful and funny.

Now on the other hand...

The best community I have come across is the traditional games board of -that place-.

Sure they love to rage at everything, but they are still helpful when asked a question.

AND they like Dwarf Fortress.

Halo 3's commuity is alot better then on halo 2 :D

Yeah there still is A-holes(like me) and Jerks but that comes with any popular online game. Your just singling out halo's community because its the most populated on consoles.

The community is what you make of it. If you party with a good group, then there is no need to worry about annoying people. Just mute them.

The thing I hate the most about Halo 3 is the amount of quitters. So many people quit when things don't go their way. If 1 person quits because their team is losing, another follows and another and another until it's 8 vs 3 or something ridiculous.

I quit when someone else quits theres nothing worse then the fact your gonna automatically lose cause someone quit nearly 99% of the time its vital to have those 8 players instead of 7.

I think I've only met 1 annoying team on my halo 3 experience. funny thing is that it was a older guy that started fighting with a 12 year old, just because he sounded like a girl when he gave out tactics.

the community is not the game's fault and annoying people can be found anywhere. especially on the world of warcraft forums.

Stop playing social matches and you won't run into kids.

Either that or you don't actually play the game and are just one of the many haters out there who still need to convince themselves that Halo 3 is garbage, so you blow things completely out of proportion.

I agree though, community is probably the worst I have come across. Although I rarely come across these mythical children you haters talk about. The only time I do is when I go in social matches with a friend.

The more people you have in a community the more chances you have to stupid kids. Its not that it has the worst community, it just has so many people and since a large portion people are annoyingly stupid (sh-i-t-t- y) the more people you have the more chance of those type of people. i just mute everyone, although i haven't played halo in a long long time.

That's not true, Socom Confrontation has easily the best online community out there and the number of jerks that play are very insignificant. I've been getting friend requests like crazy ever since I got it, you just meet a lot of great gamers in Socom Confrontation.

Not at all 8v8 ranked matches are always full and everyone has mics. You just grow a bound with these players because the majority of players stay in the same room for hours....it's cool to start these little rivalry's against the other team, it just adds to the incentive of wanting to win.

with the ability to pair ANY bluetooth headset how can you think no one has a headset.  I play PS3 games online everyday and most people have mics.  Only fanboys and misinformed people will tell you any different.

i think that there's too many idiots going "isn;t it your bedtime" or "LOL ur balls haven't dropped yet shut up" and too many kids who know too many swear words. but you find the occasional diamond in the slag heap i say :P where win or lose you have a brilliant match and it's like "Hey wanna party up?" and you have 20 more amazing matches and all add each other to each others lists and have... more amazing matches

Also open mic has to be the most stupid decision any developer can make...people talk as if they forget they're even wearing a headset...ugh and the lobbies  *facepalm*

W1NGMAN-

I completely disagree.

While it would be beneficial in playing a game with just a bunch of random people, when you have a clan/team battle, it is extremely annoying to have to press L2 (Haven't played SOCOM in a bit, forgot the button :() in order to callout. In Halo 3, it's great to just say "HE'S SNIPE 3/BLUE ROOM" because he knows what is coming. There has been times when someone on my SOCOM team was making a callout and I had to make one as well but I couldn't so my teammate ended up dying.

SOCOM would be great with open mic. In all my years of playing SOCOM I can count on my hands how many idiots I have run into. Usually in the lobby you hear "good game, good game" and "alright guys green up" or if needed, the players are usually willing to even up team unless they are clan members. In other games all you hear is "GET R***D YOU SCRUBS YOU SUCK SELL YOUR 360 YOU DONT DESERVE IT" and it gets annoying. I won't lie, I do it sometimes but it gets annoying sometimes.

Funny how people sit on forums complaining about immature and bad communities but they won't give SOCOM a chance because it was poorly reviewed since Slant Six thought it was a good idea to release a game with technical issues.

counter-strike and world of warcraft, IMO, is tied 1 at worst community.Sure, there are decent people, quite lots of them actually, but everytime you ask a question you'll get flamed to death.

Also open mic has to be the most stupid decision any developer can make...people talk as if they forget they're even wearing a headset...ugh and the lobbies  *facepalm*

I see what you're saying, I guess I would like a blend of the two....Lobby = Mic Press...In Game = Open Mic.  But you have to admit the little noise that the mic sounds when you press to talk in Socom just sounds cool :P

actually in social skirmish/big team/squad battle it's press to chat and in all the rest it isn't. also if you have ever played team doubles to the extent i have you will understand completely why a press to chat would be disastrous. you literally have to relay everything to your teammate. "like he's in yellow lift with the sword he'c oming in your direction so i'll br him from the side while you br him from the fron and the other guy is following him up the ramp now he just has an ar so leave him until next etcx etc.
