Halo 3 is a serious GOTY contender

With BioShock scoring lower than expected (i know it was hyped AAA but we all know we expected 9.5 with the scores it was getting from other sites), BioShock is looking less like the best game of this year (from Gamespots perspective at least). Now, alot of Halo haters like to refuse that Halo 3 deserves to be in the running but ill ask you this - if it delivers a solid single player performance on par with Halo 1 and a souped up pimped out version of Halo 2's MP, why would it not be considered a GOTY contender? If it can take the best parts of the first two games and combine them, theres no reason why it wont be great.

f you read around the internet most sites love what they have played of halo 3's single player and say the AI is very well done and some say its the best AI seen in a FPS. Most are not crazy about the graphics but why is that the end of the world?

GOTY will go to the game with the best overall fun factor, value, and general experience. Halo 3 looks to provide all three. I am not saying it is a guaranteed GOTY but I definitely think it deserves to be up there with BioShock, Mass Effect, SMG, and MP3 as GOTY candidates.

well this is true. but then it just sparks another debate on whether game of the year should be the game with the best score or is it the game with the most value/score? what happens if two or more games get 9.5's? how is that going to be decided?

im just saying from the sheer amount of value we are getting with halo 3 it seems like people are overlooking the fact that this game could very well get GOTY and it should be a contender. im not debating what will be goty im just sick of hearing its the same generic halo, when there are plenty of other sequels which are considered goty contenders.

how can you say that? halo 3 offers more replayability from both SP and MP, along with AI that is supposedly very strong, something which bioshock had a knock against it for. bioshock isnt flawless and the replayability is no where near halo's. halo 3 doesnt just come with a 15 hour single player. thats really only a small fraction of what bungie is bringing us with halo 3.

Well, if you look at Jeff's biggest gripes with Bioshock (guide arrow, combat is too easy, no penalty of dying, etc.), NONE of these things will happen in Halo 3. Great AI (tough, smart, overwhelming). Huge battles. Epic story. Great deep multiplayer. Tons of replay. And the "x-factor" - its being made by Bungie. I still have faith in them that they will learn from their mistakes with Halo 2 and make an even better game in 3.

So - yes, I feel that Halo 3 has a better chance at GOTY here at GS after the Bioshock review.

agreed. even though it is the most hyped game, i still feel its going to deliver. knowing how well bungie refines their gameplay and the amount of features being offered, unless theres a serious problem with framerate or AI, i dont see how it couldnt get AAA.

competition is good it makes games better. im curious if any of the ps3 exclusives become goty contenders though.

but you guys are saying it before the game is reviewed. it's one thing to predict a score. it's quite another to predict a higher status before it's reviewed.

If a revolutionary FPS like Bioshock can only score 9.0 then I doubt a recycling FPS like Halo 3 could even break 8.5. Thus destroying any chance at it getting close to receiving GOTY. I don't think any GOTY has ever scored under a 9.0.foxhound_fox

recycling FPS? so are you saying no other sequel could get GOTY or break 8.5? im guessing CoD4, UT3, MGS4, and MP3 should get no higher than 8.5 b/c they are just "recycling" old formulas...

BioShock also has problems like redundant enemies according to GameSpot... so its not flawless thats why it got 9.0
