P.S. sorry ps3 / wii fans, the top console juggernauts this gen seem all on x360 so far. Maybe next year with mgs4 and kill zone 2 things will change and we'll have good contenders worthy of going up against H3 and Gears in polls :)
I have several reasons to why I personally liked Gears better:
1) I prefer more tactical shooters (I also think that COD4 may be better than both).
2) I like that in Gears if you just run out and die you have to wait Counter Strike style. This gives a more tangible reward for playing smart.
3) I prefer darker more gritty games...I always feel like master chief is a glorified power ranger...just my opinion of course.
4) Right or wrong Gears set a standard for graphics when it came out that made people stand up and take notice and while I am not some retarded graphics whore this should be taken into consideration since Gears, a one year old game; can still be favorably compared to any game that has been released on 360 or PS3.
I loved Gears of War, it provided a great atmosphere and gameplay. One of the few games I played through more then once. In fact, I loved it so much I am also getting the PC version :P
Halo 3 was... eh, underwhelming. Seeing as I have no interest in it's multiplayer, the only area I can really judge it by is it's singleplayer. Which was nothing short of lackluster.
SP Halo 3, absolutely epic. But MP goes to GeoW, Halo 3 MP is a dissapointment to me. I think it sucks and gets boring fast, ESPECIALLLY if your not playing with your buddies.

It's the exact opposite for me. I grew tired of GeoW's MP after a couple of months, and the amount of glitch-exploiters that are on nowadays are just staggering. The fact Halo 3 has a plethora of vehicles, and literally about 15x more weapons than Geow makes it far more enjoyable for me.
I never saw what was so great about gears... Especially gears multiplayer is extremely flawed. Sure, there's nice graphics, but it became boring so fast... Of course gamespot doesn't give individual scores for elements in a game, but that's why halo games always get a 10 in gameplay, and gears got a 9.
Also, matchmaking is awesome, and gears SP was short, and even had to be filled up with so called minigames. Sure, they were well hidden, but things like the vehicle section were just plain awful.
1.- I prefer the campaign, and 4 player coop is simply beautiful in a game like Halo: The potential for insanity is several orders of magnitude higher than in gears.
2.- Online monkeys are, in general, incapable of playing a game the the way to obtain the best experience possible: It's usually monkeys running around trying to get teh killz or teh supawepon, and the experts who pick them off. At least, this has been my experience. Halo 3's gameplay is inherently more suited to people doing this, so it doesn't bother me, while my most fun Gears games have been when people start using cover and playing like they would play the single player -this, sadly, usually means playing on System Link only, and lugging tvs and people into one location is considerably harder than hitting quickmatch.
The only problem i see with gears is that its online is terribly laggy and the host advantage. Will the pc version have dedicated servers? If so, gears PC>any shooter on 360/ps3.

Learn to use a pistol ya noob, its way more fun to kill someone with your snubby then it is with your shotty, especially if they were using the shotgun
halo already gets more gameplay. i was not a gears fan even after playing it a year later a lot. not until before halo came out that i finally caved in. gears would not of made me buy a 360, halo 3 did that, but i am looking foward to gears of war 2 now.

play me in halo 3 all i will use is a pistol and u can have a sniper pr any gun you want
