A much echoed phrase from cows in SW. Apparently Bungie stole the idea of the bubble shield and brute spike grenade from Insomniac.
Think about it, the deployable equiptment is a whole new spin on Halo 3's gameplay. Why would they spend so much time designing levels only to add the bubble shield after seeing it in Resistance? Well, it would make the gameplay very unbalanced and would kill much of the design in the maps. And Resistance's bubble shield is unlockable at the end of the game, right? Resistance was released in November 2006. Halo 3 was being developed a long, long time before that. The deployable equipment is to Halo 3 as dual wielding is to Halo 2. It's a small feature that puts a whole new spin on the gameplay itself.
As for the brute spike grenade, that's apparently stolen from Resistance as well. Both grenades handle and act completely differently. The Resistance spike grenade launches itself into mid-air and fires rivets into the room, wherein they impale anything they touch and stick into the walls upon impact. The brute spike grenade simply explodes and sends shards of metal into the surrounding area, and they either eviscerate the victim or bounce off the walls to cause even more damage. Besides, judging by the early vidocs and trailers (and even Halo 2), the Brutes aren't like the rest of the covenant. While the other members of the covenant use plasma weapons and wear sleek armour, the brutes use projectile weapons like the brute shot and are generally not as graceful as the elites. Naturally, they would use much more primitive and pointy equipment. While brainstorming Halo 3, Bungie probably had to come up with ideas for the Brute's standard equipment as the Plasma rifle is usually associated with the Elites, and as the Brute's uprising was just begining in Halo 2, it would probably be mandatory to give the Brutes their own equipment as it has been quite some time after their uprising at the start of Halo 3. Due to their personalities (as described before) a spike pistol was probably the best option to go for, and the idea of a spike grenade was likely to have been born from that. Personally I think the name 'spike grenade' comes more from the fact that the grenade has barbed hooks all over it, rather than it's resulting projectile. Besides, some could say that Resistance stole the idea of the spike grenade from Team Fortress, as did they steal the Auger shield from Unreal Tournament. :o
So please stop the bickering at how Bungie steal. It's mear coincidence.
[AN OFFICIAL MEGA PIGEON EDIT] The Starry night trailer was released a month after Resistance's release. So this pretty much proves that they didn't steal it. How do I know this? Any developer in their right mind won't suddenly dramaticaly change the game's design in the middle of development for the sake of trying to be up to date.If they did get the idea of deployable equipment form Resistance, we wouldn't be seeing a September release date- they'd be too busy trying to rebalance and redesign the levels.
