Halo 3 is a great game, but you have to admit the story in the games are garbage. Playing Halo is like watching a single episode of Lost, if you didn't know what was going on already, you're basically "lost" for lack of a better term. Yes, it is an interesting story, but when you constantly feel like you are missing half of it because its not making a whole lot of sense, something is wrong.
This is probably also why Halo has the mass appeal that it does. Most casuals only want to see a cut-scene to watch Master Chief do something cool, then they want to get back into the action. You can't convey a deep story in this manner, so if you want to know more, you have to read the novels, hang out on Bungie.net, etc. which I feel is a disservice to those who paid their $60 and expected a more cohesive in-game story.
