Serious question for people who have played both.

I got the R2 beta a few weeks ago and I'm sad to say that the competitive multiplayer just feels kinda lame. I think I even liked the first resistance multiplayer a bit better. The 60 player online feels messy, while the controls don't feel as tight as other FPS's. I was pretty disappointed with it altogether.

I'm looking foward to the R2 campaign though, so hopefully it will redeem itself in my eyes. The Halo 3 campaign was pretty generic IMO...

Anyway, how would you compare the two games?

Resistance 2 beats Halo 3 in SP and graphics, but when it comes to multiplayer, its Halo 3.

Just played the beta last night and the 8 player co-op is crazy fun, but the 60 player online just didn't play all that hot IMO

overall Halo3 but close

Agree.

R2 is not EVEN out yet, and dont say "Ive seen teh videoz", it dosent count. and the MP was in Beta, so dont just go off what the beta showed.

Resistance 2 may look better graphically from what I've seen, but I think it will be tough for R2 managing being the better overall. Only time will tell.

If it does turn out better than Halo 3 though it would be wonderful and be a huge improvement over last game.

yeah the most you can do with game play videos is predict a score, and even then it's not gonna be very accurate. but like you and I said the game isn't even released yet, and halo 3 has aged well, and will age will for all of eternity. But after playing the R2 beta, it seems prettyy epic

Can't really say for sure, since I haven't tried R2 yet.

Halo 3 was a huge disappointment in terms of multiplayer and singleplayer though.

lol graphically both games have different directions too. halo 3 has some insane detail in its textures and shaders, also the insane cool water effects and lighting the game has. Ressistance 2 is all about hectic stuff with lots of enemies. also, halo 3 is a total different game than ressistance 2 in terms of what audience its aimed for. Halo 3 will always win in my book, but thats because i am a halo fanboy and think the story is actually deeper than allot of people think it is, if you read the books and paid close attention to preverious games that is.

I know resistance 2 isn't out yet, but I think it'll end up like this..

Resistance 2 with a better single player and Halo 3 with a better multiplayer.

According to the Beta, I think R2 multiplayer is better than Halo3. Dont get me wrong, Halo3 multiplayer is some of the best multiplayer fun I've had, but Resistance weapons + 8player co-op + 60player skirmish mode really got me sold. Skirmish is a blast and I find the only people online who complain are those who go solo and get killed fast. If you stick with your squad, you'll do great especially with the Ring of Life berserk. R2 may not have vehicles (and I admit, vehicles in H3 are so much fun!) but I still think it wins out over H3 (albeit very slightly).

I think it's unrealistic to expect it to be better than Halo 3. It doesnt have a three year development cycle and a whole studio devoted to it like Halo does. It's better to expect a solid and enjoyable game rather than over-hype things as the Halo-killer.

Insomniac doesn't need three-year development cycles. They're quite efficient as it is. If they wanted more time for Resistance 2, I'm sure Sony would've given it to them.

I don't have to play Resistance 2 to know that it will destroy Halo 3 single player. I'm not even a Resistance fanboy. Never played the 1st one even. I just know that Halo 3's single player was severly lacking.

Halo 3's multiplayer still has the notch with it's unique mode, Forge. I thought Halo 3's campaign sucked but it did lead the way with multi-cop online mode that really worked. Haven't played Resistance 2 yet.

I'd take Halo 3. But R2 still looks like a great improvement over the first one.

Then again I'd take Halo 3 over (nearly) any game this gen.

I do love my FPS's and I would have to say so far, Halo 3. I admit I have not played anything other than the beta for R2, but while at first glance the graphics may seem 'superior', I think its more down to the different art styles of the two games than anything. Either way, I love them both so it's not a factor for me.

In terms of gameplay, I would say Halo 3 because it feels a lot more gung-ho and I prefer the 360 controller. Story-wise also, I have been immersed in the Halo storyline over the entire trilogy and I'm not a huge fan of the Resistance story (not bad, but average)...so no fight there.

As for online, I still don't have enough faith in PSN to rate it over Xbox Live. I will only have 16 player matches max but then, more is not always better (especially with a team full of noobs) and it will be smoother for sure.

So Halo 3 I think, over R2 but it's not going to stop me from getting Resistance and enjoying every bit of it.
