I'm not bashing Halo or anything of the sort.
But as you are most likely aware of, the hitboxes (or whatever the hell they're called) in Halo 2 were rather... large.
In halo 3, do you think the hitboxes will return to the state they were in Halo CE, or do you think Bungie will leave them a tad on the large side, like in Halo 2? I was just wondering what you think Bungie will do with them, because halo 2's were a bit too big for my liking, making for far easier kills. (I would rather use a bit of skill and actually hit the player than hitting an overly large hitbox.
I'm not sure if hitbox is the correct name for them, incase it isnt, i mean the area where a projectile has to land to cause a player damage.

Are you talking about the crosshairs?

If so, then they looked slightly different in the vidoc. I doubt they will change significantly.

No, i mean the area around the player's model onscreen, where the projectile has to land to damage a player. In halo CE for example, you actually had to hit the player's model, in Halo 2 you could land a shot, something like 50cm around the actual model itself and still deal damage to the player.

lol, hit box....the "hit box" is dependent on what weapon you have...sniper, small "hit box" SMG large "hit box." In the latest Halo 3 video, the "hit box" does seem smaller on the Assault Rifle from Halo to Halo 3.

The crosshairs on the AR are smaller then the hairs in CE, I'm watching the ViDoc now and I'll tell you about the BR in a couple seconds.

I am expecting the Halo 3 multiplayer to turn out in one of two ways.

1) It will return to the skill driven experience that was Halo CE with all the new gameplay elements.

-or-

2) They will nerf the game even further in an attempt to attract a larger casual crowd.

If they do return to the Halo CE realm I may rent the game... if I ever buy a 360...

I hope so. Although the larger hit boxes in Halo 2 never really stopped me from having fun, it would be nice to have them smaller again.

3) They go for a happy medium?

I'd expect it to go in the way of #2, but that is why Halo 2 multiplayer is so popular anyway, the large hitboxes and aim assist make new players think they are pulling off some great shots, drawing them into the game. Everyone likes to get a headshot from across the map.

You can take that as a good thing, or a bad thing. I'm not fussed to be honest. If there is an advantage in the game, its an advantage everyone has, and the most skilled players will seek out how to use those advantages best.

No, the crosshair is the symbol that appears in the centre of the screen that lets you know the location of where the weapon is aimed.
A hitbox is the area around a player's model where the projectile from a weapon has to hit (unless it deals splash) to deal damage. But I agree with coolguy though, Hitboxes in console games are often too large.

It comes with the territory. Analogue stick just aren't pixel accurate. If new players playing a console FPS can't hit a damn thing then I very much doubt they will have any fun.

It's not so much the Controller as it is the Console Fan-base the minority of them are Casual, so the devs make the game casual friendly aka Huge hit boxes and crappy auto aim. There are a few games that are not plagued buy this casual effect, the ones i know of are Halo and the morjorty of FPS PC ports, those games take time and skilzz on a controller to master.

No, every console game has huge hitboxes, comapred to the pc, thats because console players cant aim, and the MAJORITY are noobs, not minority.  Play PC if you want skill based fpses, not consoles :/.

Except his attempts are unbalanced.

In the attemopt with the battle rifle, he has the guy dead before we even get a chance to see where he placed the crosshair.

in the last attempt with the guy jumping, he uses the a regular pistol to demonstrate whatevertf he's trying to do, then switches to a plasma pistol which has homing properties, and tries to make up some foolishness about hitbox size using a homing weapon.

 fail.

BS you played Halo1, you always have to lead your target and the hit boxes are perfect and very little to no Aim assets. I played Halo1 for the first time in the last 8 months and O god i forgot how hard/differnt the aiming is compared to all the new FPS on Consoles.

P.S Aim assets is when you put your cross hairs on the target it slows down your look senativity. But you always have to lead your target from mid to long range targets so it's no help more of a bother.

PS, thats sticky aim not aim assist, Halo has it, aiming in halo is not skilled, your gimped by your controler theres a enormus difference.  And like i said, you dont need aiming, if i get you from behind and can spray, your done.

I hope they do fix the hit boxes.  Halo had much better gameplay mechanics than Halo 2, with out the new features of Boarding and Dual weilding I would say Halo had a resoundingly better MP.

I also hope they take away the gun butt lock on.  It's so horrid, and most of the time you don't need to face the enemy straight on to hit them.

Please bring it back to Halo 1's gameplay mechanics Bungie!!!!!

I'm hoping for per-poly hit detection.  Doom 3 on PC had this at one point - you could shoot between people's legs and miss.  I don't know if this made it to final release, however.
That would be next-gen.

You wish^ The only way that's going to happen is if you jump me from behind when i spawn with no stickys and a plasma pistole, still then i could take you out. Or did you forget how fast you can take up your look senativity? I can do a 180 and pop a head shot with a sniper in around 1 seccound . We are talking about Halo here not some crapy slow aiming FPS.

You are right a huge majorty of Console FPS are noobed and m/k >>>>> Controler. But when your happy and got skilzz... well none of that matters. What i really hate is when Devs dub down the gameplay for PC games because there multiplat, like R6v for one.
