I went to GameStop yesterday to buy a 360 game.  I had it narrowed down to 3 choices: Crackdown, Lost Planet, or COD3.  Crackdown was sold out.  I decided to get COD3 and I asked an employee if he played Crackdown.  He said he bought it only for the Halo 3 beta.

Just then, another employee whos shift apparently just started came in.  I asked the 2nd employee if Crackdown was any good.  He said he only bought it for the Halo 3 beta.  He then told me that there has been a major influx of phone calls from people asking if the Halo 3 beta was on Crackdown.

He said "You wanted Crackdown for the Halo 3 beta, right?"

I said that Crackdown looked intriguing enough in its own right and that the Halo 3 beta is a nice bonus.   He had a face like :| when I said that.

He said that I was the first person who wanted to actually play Crackdown without getting excited about the Halo 3 beta.  He looked utterly shocked that I cared anything about Crackdown and not the Halo 3 beta.

After all this transpired I just had a face like  the whole time going home.  I couldn't believe that both employees had bought Crackdown (not even tried playing it) for the sole purpose of the beta.  Absolutely ridiculous.

Anyway, I don't really have a point with all this except to say that after the whole GameStop incident, I'm convinced now more than ever that Crackdown will only sell well for the Halo 3 beta.  People are willing to spend $60 for a beta...

I'm also convinced GameStop is run by a bunch of buffoons...

At my local EB games it was the exact oposite, the guy there actually had a 15 min conversation with be about crackdown and only once mentioned the beta.

The people that work at those kind of stores do seem to be very fanboyish. Regardless, Halo is an amazing series with a loyal fanbase so it's not surprising their reactions were like what you described.

It is stupid that people will pay so much for a beta.... Honestly from what I read Crackdown is a good game of it's own and having the Halo 3 beta put within it seriously did more damage then good for it. People are underestimating it and most probably barely even gave it an honest chance. BTW, I work at Gamestop so that's just proof that not all of us are buffoons... most ARE but not all.

Any fanboy never ceases to amaze me. It's like ifKojima packaged a MGS4 demo with a decent game, or Nintendo packaged something like SMG or SSBB demos with some decent game. There would be tons of people that would buy it just for the demo.

Ask yourself why pay £45-49 for a beta which more than likely you'd should be invited to play for free? It's a very well placed salses pitch, but that makes Crackdown look bad. ...Oh, BTW, how are you finding their bed?

I, personally, think that it's preposterous to buy a game you aren't interested in for a demo (I don't consider it a beta). That's precisely why I'm not buying Crackdown...and that's coming from someone who's been a very big fan of Bungie since the Marathon days.

Sounds like MGS fans... I bought ZOE for the actual game, but many people were buying ZOE for the MGS2 demo.

Of course, I don't care to play some Halo 3 beta (a single player demo wouldn't be bad), nor do I care to play Crackdown.

I might be a bit hypocritical saying this, but I probably would as well:oops: Now THOSE type of games are the type of original brilliance that I would feel guilty not playing if I had the chance.

I'll tell you what, the Halo 3 beta convinced me to buy Crackdown instead of renting it, but I am glad I did. Crackdown is a great game in its own right, and I think it was a bit underrated on GS.

I agree. Those people are almost a sbad as those holding out on buying a 360 just for Halo 3. I bought Crackdown for the sake of playing Crackdown, not a limited 1 or 2 leveled beta with a few weapons. Allbeit, the Halo 3 beta is still a fantastic addition to a fantastic game.

Maybe they will get around to playing it and like it. It could build a solid fanbase for the franchise. Raises to odds of a Crackdown 2, which is good for who ever liked the first.

That's fine...That I can understand.  What I can't understand though is that both of those GameStop employees bought Crackdown and won't even try playing it!  They haven't played it once. They are just awaiting the Halo 3 beta.  That just seems ridiculously absurd to me and too fanboyish...
