Whether you love the game, or hate the game, no one can deny the Halo franchise's popularity. Whenever a new FPS is announced, and if it looks good, you always hear the term "Halo Killer". After 3 direct games, 2 PC ports, a RTS spin-off, table top figurine game, so on and so forth, Halo has already proven that it's almost a house hold name by now. However, how long should this really last? Will Halo become the next franchise with endless sequals, spin-offs, and others relating to the Halo name that will just beat a dead horse? Or, should the Halo franchise finally be put to rest, ending off with a good note, letting other series have a shot at becoming the next big Microsoft franchise, such as what Gears of War is looking like?

I doubt MS will put the Halo series to rest anytime soon. It's too big of a money maker for them to do it with any business sense. That's not to say they will start releasing one game a year (Possible but I doubt that) but it won't be going away.

Halo to Microsoft is what Mario is to Nintendo. It wont stop or be put to rest as long as it remains popular. And as so far they've only produced high-quality halo titles (yes I'm including Halo wars in that what with the AA quality everywhere but this place and million+ games played online) that have all sold well and done well.

I'm happy to see them expand the universe.

That lame "halo killer" stuff needs to be put to rest. As long as the games are good, count me in though.

Why should they? The games are both critically and financially successful, the fanbase is huge, and everything works fine with it. There's no reason at all.

I can never understand when people go on about Halo as if its had a ton of games made with its name, why not put an end to Mario, Sonic, Final Fantasy or Metal Gear!

FPS needs a break is what it needs. It doesn't need to "pass the touch". It needs to go on hiatus.

Halo makes lots of money. If something makes lots of money, then it is not going to be stop being made until it starts to make little money. Therefore, Halo will continue. No point in further discussion.

I'm all for more Halo games if:

.

1 They're in keeping with Halo lore and they don't start trying to be creative with the story to squeeze out another game like so many franchises do (and I kinda felt thats what they were doing with Halo 3!)

.

2 They do something a little different than the usual standard shooter that we've had so far and explore different directions like they are doing with ODST and Halo Wars

.

3 and they absolutely do not compromise quality for the sake of more sequels but keep them up there in the AAA category

I have to say, the Halo universe is pretty large. There is a lot of potential for... agressive expansion. :P The only way I'd ever say "Go ahead and put Halo to rest (for now)" is if Bungie said, "We'd like to team up with Wideload to make a new Marathon game." Then I'd be all, "Halo what?"
