is there a measurable qualification for such title?
I mean, is it safe to assume, for instance, Gears as a Halo killer becuase it knocked it out from XBL top 1 spot?
or a game needs to do more than that to earn the title of Halo killer?

Two things: A.) It NEEDS to be on the 360. B.) It needs to be more popular on XBL. That's it.musicalmac
agreed but 1 more
C)Needs an awesome multi-player experience that no game has delievered and is fun like hell.

and this is where i start to wonder if anyone has heard of PC gaming on SW...
Gears knocking a game released 2 years before off the xbl ladder isnt all that special and I dont think there will ever be a "halo killer" because halo did so many things right that for ther to be a killer they would have to surpass it in all aspects. Kinda like what GTA 3 did to the sereis you had many knock-off's (true crimes scarface godfather) but non of them did it as good as GTA 3is there a measurable qualification for such title?

Honestly, we get it. There are bunches of games on the computer. That's great. Too bad it has nothing to do with the thread :|[QUOTE="musicalmac"]Two things: A.) It NEEDS to be on the 360. B.) It needs to be more popular on XBL. That's it.Raidea
I don't think it needs to be on the 360, but it does need to have a community as large and committed as Halo 2 does.
The reason I say it has to be on the 360 is because you have to be able to play that instead of Halo. A PS3 game can't kill Halo, because 360 owners wouldn't be able to play it anyway. Thusly- they'd stick with Halo.It needs to be named Half-Life 2. With or without the word 'Episode' at the end.

so you think Orange Box would do it when it comes out on X360? i.e. earn the title?

Nope. Not really Half-Life's target platform. And in all reality, it has earned that title on the PC. Valve confirmed that Half-Life and games built around that game and engine have sold 15-million units. Not to mention that critical acclaim worldwide.
Remember, 2004's best shooter was Half-Life 2.

but wasn't half life 2 (and counter strike) also on xbox 1?
why it didn't earn that title back then if it was better?
By system war's standards, if a game is better than Halo then it is NOT a Halo killer. It has to be way more popular than Halo which is going to take FOREVER. Halo is actually a pretty generic sci-fi shooter that offered nicegraphics andgood quality gameplaybut is extremely popular among everybody. I don't even know how it happend... But I don't think we'll see a Halo killer anytime soon, it's pretty much up there with Mario in being one of the biggest video game icons of all time.

stop talking...if you have any idea what HL and counter-strike is, you would know that the console ports are terribad.
To be touted as a Halo killer, it needs to be an exclusive FPS/TPS for any consolewhocares4peacelol you mean any exclusive shooter is a halo killer?
This a console only thing? If not, there are already plenty of "halo" killers. Halo is nothing more than a average FPS for the PC.is there a measurable qualification for such title?

They were ports, and suffered from some technical issues not in the originals. Half-Life 2 for Xbox had no multiplayer, and by the time the CS port arrived, it'd already been out for something like 4 or 5 years on the PC. For free.

How about we see less, "Most PC FPS games are better than Halo" and more explanation as to why. That is what this thread is about. What makes it a "Halo killer"? Though, I would contend that no PC shooter can kill Halo. 360 owners can't play every PC shooter on their console!! How can it possibly kill Halo?musicalmac
thank you
also, obviously there might be different standards on consoles, hence HL2 and Counter strike on xbox1 was merely a blimp in the console's lifespan.

I would continue by saying that most PC exclusive FPS fall fare behind Halo when it comes to story. Please Log In to post.
