will it happen?
im wondering when Map packs will become 20 bucks a pop

Reach map packs will happen, but I do not think it will be $15. If someone wants to save money on the map packs, they could wait for a GOTY edition.

only thing is halo 3 didnt have a goty version. there could have been aone since it got one from 1up but it didnt. and all the maps have been 800 ms points(cold storage ho wever was not cause it was free).
What are the rumors? Have a link?Probably not. At least, I hope not.
Anyway, if the map editor rumours are true, then we won't even need map packs.

Right. I only say that because ODST had the entire Halo 3 multiplayer, all the DLC maps, and 3 new maps along with it. I am not saying that they will, but I think that Halo: Reach will eventually be bundled together with all of its DLC in retail one day.

There are other surprises inReach, including multiplayer modes that weren't playable in the recent public Beta, more new vehicles and a fully-featured level-editor that's so powerful, Bungie developers used it to create a few of the maps that will come with the game.
[QUOTE="slipknot0129"]Sure by like 33 cents but it didn't include 2 rehased maps each time ;) So technically you're paying $15 for 3 maps And at least Halo's maps give you a bit of customisation potential :)3 maps for $10 is more than 5 for $15. So halo 3 was the one that started it.

Bungie won't do thatNonstop-MadnessWhat Bungie wants doesn't matter. Not that I think they'd be opposed to more money either.
[QUOTE="slipknot0129"]Sure by like 33 cents but it didn't include 2 rehased maps each time ;) So technically you're paying $15 for 3 maps Halo 3's Legendary map pack included Ghost Town - a new map, Avalanche - a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved's Sidewinder and Blackout - a remake of Halo 2's Lockout. Thats two remakes and one new map out of three maps. I didn't think it was such a bad thing since I loved all three maps but people beg for these old maps to show up in the new game so I don't think it's very fair to criticize the developer for delivering what their fans want.3 maps for $10 is more than 5 for $15. So halo 3 was the one that started it.

Like 10$ is really any better... They should be free, at most 2 or 3 bucks for a map pack. 5+$ for maps is robbery. Only on consoles...

Avalanche and Blackout play NOTHING like the originals.
The CoD4 remakes are a carbon copy, maybe the grass is a different color or something but that's it.

After all the idiots that paid for the MW2 map packs there will probably be $15 map packs for other gams such as Halo.
I have no doubt that the map packs will be over $10. Maybe under $15, for purposes of marketing and public perception, but they're going to be as expensive as possible. Its capitalism at work. They'll charge as much as they can and people will still buy them by the millions.

Avalanche wasn't a flat-out remake, it was inspired by sidewinder by all means but wasn't just the same map. Both maps were also completely re-built, visually. They looked completely different to the originals, even though they followed the same schematics.3 maps for $10 is more than 5 for $15. So halo 3 was the one that started it.

In COD, they were just the same maps....
[QUOTE="lawlessx"]if forge 2.0 is anything like what im reading people are just going to making custom maps and giving them out for free.hellhundPeople would still rather have professionally made Bungie maps, rather than maps made by random people of dubious skill.
Custom maps are usually better. The best Halo 3 maps were made from Forge using only two maps, Foundry and Sandbox.
Now imagine you had a full-fledged map editor. Sure there's going to be a lot of garbage, but that's no excuse to downplay them. If you are, then PS2 is the worst system ever. Sure it had great games, but it had probably a 5:1 ratio of bad-to-great games.

In spite of Halo 3 having Forge, did people still buy the map packs?[QUOTE="UnArguably"]yeah, i don't see bungie allowing that.RobBourne
It's not their decision. It's Microsoft's.
Microsoft is in bed with Activision, so I have no doubt they will copy their business plan.
bungie has pull though with microsoft, i don't see bungie allowing it. in fact, im sure bungie would refuse to even make the maps if microsoft would do that. bungie actually cares about their gaming community.[QUOTE="Nonstop-Madness"]Bungie won't do thatLed_poisonBut mircosoft will  Hilarious... I can see MS doing it, after the success of the MW2 map packs. I hope not though.

Hopefully only for games I can ignore. Everyone has at least one game where they run the risk of becoming a hypocrite. Were you might begrudgingly be able to put up with being treated like crap because the game underneath all that BS is so appealing. For me it's Battlefield 3. I'm planning to upgrade my PC for that game. EA are experts at BS practices, so I'm expecting the worst. I have a faint sliver of hope though.
I know all about the business side of it, but I'm not fond of get shafted because of the people that pay for this stuff. Map packs used to be more like thank you love letters from the devs to the fans. It was this gen and consolites that changed it all. Probably started with MS and Xbox Live... You better get used to it because it's only going to get worse.[QUOTE="TehNubTuber"]

In most cases it does cost them money to produce the content, it's only fair that they want a return. I don't expect to be given things for free.
In other cases, if people are willing to pay publishers will charge. Supply and demand etc. etc.InsaneBasura

I've never bought a map pack and don't expect to ever do so. Although, I'm not a huge online multiplayer person. More maps would be nice, but I'd rather invest that $15 towards a new game.If Bungie makes the map packs, Microsoft will then price them. Odds are, there's nothing they could do to stop them. I don't think Bungie has any leverage anymore. Hell, they could just have 343 make the map packs for $15 if Bungie won't cooperate.

And I used to think DICE's alleged free maps could actually happen because DICE had some pull with EA through DICE's former CEO being an EA Studio Manager, or Europe VP, or something. But BC2 screws users over more than any other game before it.[QUOTE="UnArguably"]

Even if Bungie did have pull it wouldn't matter. Ultimately Microsoft's responsibility lies with the shareholders. Microsoft will price it whatever they deem fit. If Bungie are under contract to produce DLC they would obviously be legally obliged to do so. Whatever Bungie may feel about the eventual pricing is irrelevant.

There's a new trend forming with games like Dead Rising: Case Zero and the Red Faction thing. Did they rip out the beginning of the game? Or wouldn't this part of the game have existed otherwise? Was it developed separately with its own budget as a stand-alone game? I don't know.
And of course Ubisoft tends to release parts of the game they apparently couldn't complete before the game went gold. See Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed II.
Everything's so shady these days.
