The scene: Chris Opdahl's workstation (he's the svelte gentleman that showed off the big AI battles in our most recent and totally awesome ViDoc). He's already in the midst of a conversation with Max about what's happening onscreen when I walk up behind them, stalker **** For some reason, the engine is spitting out a tinny rendition ofFlight of the Bumblebeeto accompany the visuals. Max and Chris are talking numbers.

"How many are there running onscreen right now?"

"Two hundred, plus."

"Oh, I was thinking we could do double that."

And here I am off to the side speechless, drooling like Homer Simpson dreaming about pink, glazed donuts. Then they called security and I had to slink away ashamed.

So much for 30-40. Holy crap, 200, maybe more???

Sounds good, but I want to wait to see the quality of the AI first. I hope they don't sacrifice quality for quantity. I would rather than 10 great bad guys, over 100 crappy ones :P

i need to see the battles for myself. for all i know it could just a bunch of scripted AIs that you can't interact with battling it out in the background.

Sounds awesome, 200 is pretty crazy, however i think the actual ground battles will be 40 enemies on screen taht you can actually fight and the 200 thing it might be a gears of war 2 thing were you see some insano battle off in the distance. Idk but Bungie is defintily hard at work and Reach is going to be THE Halo game weve wanted since Halo 2.

Exactly. In the original Halo if i saw a ghost coming towards me over a hill on legendary difficulty i'd be like 'oh crap.' In Halo 2 there are levels where you take out about thirty of them. :P

We dont know much about this though; it could be a cutscene for all we know. It's never a good idea to start hyping games based on tidbits of tests being done during its development. I think a battle in Reach featuring 200+ AI is unlikely, but what do i know. :P

Dude, the flood are some of the worst enemies in any game. Every single level with the Flood is so freaking annoying. Anyone remember The Library? That is quite possibly the worst designed level in the history of games. It's even worse than GoW1's hell level.

ArmA 2 went well above 200. Sure its cool, but it isn't as amazing as people are making it out to be.

With all the power required to run that I highly doubt the final build with have that many AI running simultaneously. Hell if they can get 50 at one time and still keep a high level of fidelity, they'll still be a leap above previous halo's and most FPS's on the market.

The AI got smarter in all the halo games as you raised the difficulty. If you put it on heroic, legendary. The enemy AI was genious. Now the marines...

It almost HAS to be flood infection forms. I couldn't imagine it being anything else; I mean, what's the point to 200+ Covenant? You couldn't even see that many on screen. Not evenclose.

Still, even if it were idiotic flood, that would be VERY impressive, and would give an awesome plot twist and a reason to play firefight.

Gears 2 was also said to have hundreds of enemies at one time (remember the Gears 2 engine tech demo?). turns out you would only fight that many when riding on the machines and shooting down on them as they were climbing out of the emergence holes. I'd be interested if it's an all out 200 vs 200 battlefield.

I don't think the flood will be showing up in this game. I'm pretty sure that they were supposed to have debuted in the war during CE so I'm hoping this game just involves fighting fighting the covenant. I'm hoping there are Brutes in this game because I love fighting Elites but I also love fighting Brutes. They were techincally part of the covenant during the time frame where reach is set.

Sounds impressive but I could imagine it as just being 200 AI fighting in the background, just like in Gears 2.

I'm pretty sure we won't be actively engaging 200+ enemies. It's sort of canon fodder to add to the immersion. Still, that's very welcome and I'm excited to see how they're going to apply the tech.

I'm skeptical on how they talk about. Yeah, let's wait and see how the game comes along. While I don't have doubt that the battles will be much larger than those of Halo 3. Some of the battles in Halo 3 got to be pretty big as well. I mean, who didn't have fighting the two scarabs at once in the Covenant level? Doing that on 4 player co op and having people drop on it from hornets was a blast on legendary.
